1) No, it's not a real metro. It's just a new underground section connecting two lines so they can be taken out of the City Loop, freeing up capacity. Normal trains will use it. 2) Anzac is near the Shrine of Remembrance, which you can reach by heading south from Flinders St, past the Botanic Gardens. Parkville is near the hospitals, Melbourne Uni, and the huge Haymarket roundabout. Arden is kinda close to North Melbourne station, in an old industrial area.

I think the only reason he stopped was due to the wind being pushed in front of the tram itself letting him know it was there. Geez! Some people are examples of that 'Dumb Ways to Die' song. It will be lovely to have a new rail system for the city but the essential project needed is the Suburban Rail Link around the city. Really there should be another ring just like it further out east with stations running north-south from Lilydale to Upper Ferntree Fully, so: down through Mount Evelyn, Kilsyth through to Lysterfield and further south. When I think of just how far behind other major global cities we are in terms of rail accessibility. Our rail between State Capitals and regional centres is a joke. How many federal governments commissioning reports do we need before someone actually puts pen to paper to sign off on a proper infrastructure bill which gives regional Australia access to cities via HSR? If a Labor government ever wants to topple the Nationals in the bush all they need to do is commit to safe consistent rail services at reasonable costs to ride and the bush will vote with their sensibility and knowledge that one party actually does something rather than just talk and promise never delivered projects.
"Disgrace" how? The planned opening was originally 2026 then brought forward to 2025. You people are always looking for something to be upset about lmao, so weird to call it a "disgrace".
@babyboomertwerkteam5662 You know what is a disgrace. You referring to people who disagree with you as you people. People complain because a lot of Melbourne's Public Transport is an absolute disgrace. Compared to Sydney, Melbourne constriction is slow. Both the Sydney City and South West and the Melbourne Metro commenced construction in 2017. Sydney's is 16 kms and 7 new stations and they built a tunnel under the harbour! Trains have been running since August. The Melbourne Metro which is much smaller in scope with barely over half the distance of tunnelling and 5 new stations is still under construction. June 29th completion, I won't hold my breath.
@@mjcats2011 ah, not so fast. Sydney Metro converted existing rail lines to metro (rapid transport) standard. The Metro Tunnel is not a metro system whatsoever, that’s just the brand name. What the MT really is, is just an alternative to the City Loop to free up capacity so that Frankston trains can go back into the Loop, while other lines can have better frequencies. The two are just not comparable. Melbourne needs to remove all its level crossings before it can even think of having a proper metro system. Sydney’s transport is indeed better than Melbourne’s, who denied that?
@babyboomertwerkteam5662 Precisely, that it is a disgrace. They in NSW can build twice as much infrastructure with automated trains in the same time as Vic building a bog standard commuter rail. The Melbourne Metro will help the Swanston Street tram corridor. It will not do much for the rest of the heavy rail network except release capacity in the Northern loop. I am not commenting or arguing that you think that Sydney's PT is better than Melbourne's. You would have to be blind Freddy not to see that. I am arguing that the Melbourne Metro tunnel for its scope is taking too long. I am also not saying that Melbourne should have a Metro. But our commuter rail is nowhere near. The current government's myopia in building the SRL whilst other more urgent projects are either shelved or postponed and parts of the system going to seed will mean that Melbourne will fall even further behind. By the way, Sydney Metro has only converted the Epping to Chatswood and is converting the Bankstown line. Everything else is new build.
3:13 - FYI, boollook is a Bunorong language word for swamp, so the name of the park is actually just "Swamp" in both English and the local First Nations language. ❤💛🖤
Thanks for update, very informative. So good to have new rail infrastructure going in. I still think they should’ve called Arden Station Barassi Station after the North Melbourne VFL coaching legend.
Should have been done 100 years ago. Look at the London Underground network, best in the world. Melbourne is a basket case as far as trains are concerned.
It seems the State Government and not a few others don’t seem to understand that it should be ‘ANZAC station’. It’s an acronym. Not an actual word. And it’s correctly spelt in all upper case. Oh and what genius thought that, let’s ignore what they do overseas and mistakes made, and name a station totally different (State Library) from the other station it’s connected to and at right angles. Because let’s confuse people using the network and visitors by not just using the same name.
It is pronounced as a word “Anzac”, not each individual letter, A-N-Z-A-C, hence it is spelled as it is said. Much like Qantas, Asic and Anzac Day/biscuits. ANZAC is only used when referring to the actual Corps
14 billion dollars has been spent for a few people to go from one end of the city to another, when there are already trams going every minute. Didn't need to be built at all.
@Bodhished That is a nothing answer. A few people? Clearly, you do not know what you are talking about. Those trams are packed. You are not looking at the big picture. The Swanston Street tram corridor is congested. By building the Melb Metro, some tram routes can be redirected to serve other corridors such as William St and Elizabeth St. In fact, they are going connect Eliabeth Street with Flinders, so some routes can extend eastwards.
@@mjcats2011 it's costing roughly $3000 for every person in the state plus $150 per year interest. Vast majority of them never use this corridor. It is already serviced by trams. They are going to destroy the economy by doing things like increasing taxes to pay for the massive debt. This thing will not be profitable in and of itself and will net drain more money over time.
@Bodhished Still no argument. Lots of people use that corridor that's why it is the busiest tram corridor in the world. Providing infrastructure costs money, your argument is just baseless. And again what is your proposal?

I'm guessing the contractor makes a small profit every night they can keep those diesel lights on...
Christmas 2025 at the earliest
Thanks for the update mate. It's a disgrace how slow the progress is on this long awaited need
"Disgrace" how? The planned opening was originally 2026 then brought forward to 2025. You people are always looking for something to be upset about lmao, so weird to call it a "disgrace".
Yeah, I wish it was quicker too. It really should have been done by now, but at least I get the sense that it's not too far away.
‘Arrive into’…???
Will this be ready in 2025 or 2026?
2025 is most likely
I was at the Anzac Station open day, and there were multiple signs stating explicitly that it’s opening in 2025.
3:13 - FYI, boollook is a Bunorong language word for swamp, so the name of the park is actually just "Swamp" in both English and the local First Nations language. ❤💛🖤
Fascinating!
Knowing this government, I wouldn't put it past them to be longer than 9 months from now, but hey who knows. Looking forward to it
Hahaha. Hopefully this will be an exception!
4:32 "so the question still remains" - close!
Thanks for update, very informative. So good to have new rail infrastructure going in.
I still think they should’ve called Arden Station Barassi Station after the North Melbourne VFL coaching legend.
No.
Should have been done 100 years ago. Look at the London Underground network, best in the world. Melbourne is a basket case as far as trains are concerned.
Our urban planning could have been so much better if we weren't fixated on quarter-acre blocks as long as we were
I bet all metrotunnel stations have four platforms.
What makes you say that?
@@melbournerailwayvideos Well I think I heard that the max platforms are 4, I went to the RMS and I didn’t realise there was a Metrotunnel VR.
@@JTADFthey have 2 platforms?
@@JTADF Yeah only 2, city loop stations have 4 but metro is two only
They only have two. Anzac has been shown in great detail by even amateur cameras. It has two platforms
No way this will be done by 2025
It seems the State Government and not a few others don’t seem to understand that it should be ‘ANZAC station’.
Now it's an actual word/name
This project is taking too long and too many disruptions and traffic issues.
Absolute waste of time and money imo
Why and what do you propose?
Another waste of diminishing taxpayers dollars on political grandstanding of uneeded projects.
On what basis is the Metro Tunnel "unneeded"?
Sydney Metro?! Why don't you just go live in Russia!
All the train works and still don’t revamp Dandenong Station 🚉 😢 it REALLY needs it for such a main station and connecting bus services and such a main suburb.
Thanks mate! Great update.
