So what about for example people coming from the Dandenong line headed to the MCG? There is no South Yarra but there is no Richmond either. How do they get to the MCG? Will they have to get off at Caulfield and swap to a Frankston-city train?
Or they stay on the train to the city and catch another back to Richmond?
Am I missing something? Seems like a huge oversight to not stop near the biggest sporting venue in Australia.

In regards to State Library, the platform areas are pretty much all done as is all the concreting work for most levels down to B4. Most of it is still bare but the majority of these floors won't be accessible to the public anyway, so fitout works will continue during train operations.
The concrete work for B5 is almost done as is preparation for B6. Concrete works should be done in time for passenger operation. Fitouts can be done afterwards.
    It's truly chaos down there.
Fun fact, the original plan was for it to go all the way down to B7 but that got canned as it would delay opening. The main shaft which excavators were lifted down are now being formed up and concreted, so digging is officially over. Only the smaller shafts remain for the smaller machinery.

Word is that the CBD stations are further behind than expected, and likely to be delivered late, due to the technical difficulties of the construction. Also, there's a likelihood that everything is finished this year but not opened until 2025, as it would be very difficult to implement all of the line changes over the busy summer period (December 2024 to January 2025).

The only difference is that the trains will be running through a tunnel that I believe is designed for 80km/h operation, rather than the existing tracks where trains don't tend to hit speeds close to that.

Extreme disappointment in the country lines. 1 service a day for central Victoria and it has to shunt backwards to Ballarat half the time or wait at siding near Bacchus marsh. It’s crazy with 1 platform labelled as 4….. Southern cross toilets stink and it’s only 24 years.

Great and informative video. Just one point. There seems to be a trend lately of saying “For all intensive and purposes”. The correct saying is “For all intents and purposes”.

Okay, I have read this more than once and I don’t see any difference between the first rendition of the saying and the second one.
Where are these two phrases different?
As it stands, the first phrase is identical to the second one and the comment makes no sense at all.

It was a typo on OC's behalf, but the point they were trying to get across was this. The correct saying is "for all intents and purposes". I said "for all intensive purposes", which is a common mistake. It makes sense too. What the hell is an intensive purpose?

The Metro Rail Tunnel is a waste of time and money, it's not needed, it's been a budget blowout, the project should have been abandoned before it was started.
It's going to be a huge inconvenience for those using the Pakenham and Cranbourne line because the trains on those lines won't be going through South Yarra and Richmond.

    • @melbournerailwayvideos
      @melbournerailwayvideos  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

What do you propose as an alternative to add much needed capacity to train lines across the network? And do you think it is sustainable to serve places like Parkville and the Shrine only with trams?
I also think you're overestimating the inconvenience on Pakenham and Cranbourne line commuters. How many of them really want to go to South Yarra or Richmond? I suspect not many, and changing trains really isn't that difficult. I think a lot more will benefit from having more frequent services which go to places that were previously not served by the network!

A great waste of money with a hugh blow-out cost that Victorians will be paying for decades to come.
Still no trains to the Airport that would serve all Victorians and diesel powered trains to outer suburbs and country areas
what a joke. Typical Labour logic.

You wouldn't be able to make any meaningful upgrades without the Metro Tunnel being built, and that includes the Airport line. There simply wouldn't be enough capacity!
