We've never had any issue with static electricity from the turf that I can remember. The particular grass we use is made of polyester which can be prone to static discharges when coupled with people with dry skin. However, the track is in the basement which is more humid than that rest of the house. The dehumidifier is set at 40% which might be keeping any discharges at bay. Either that or everybody racing use good skin moisturizer. If you could, keep us updated on your track setup from time to time. Thx.

Sure thing. We use the OEM Carrera power supplies. 14.8v pack for 1/32 scale and the 18v pack for 1/24. We use two jumpers/taps. Total length of the track is about 125 ft so one jumper about 40 ft upstream and one about 40 ft downstream of the CU. However, we have been experimenting with aftermarket motors for the 1/24 and those run real well on the 1/32 (14.8) power supply, and are actually faster on the lower voltage, so we'll probably start encouraging club members to switch over to their 1/24 to those motors so we don't have to keep changing the power supplies when we switch scales.

The NASCAR models are definitely top heavy, at least when compared to the GT and DTM cars. We regularly joke about the CG of the Torino Talladega actually being about six inches above the roof. Good point about the grandchildren, too. If it's too difficult to drive the cars they can get frustrated easily. We don't want tears, we want them to have fun.

I didn't mention GO! because it's a different scale than all the track mentioned in the video. GO! is 1/43 scale and D132/124, Exclusiv, and Pro-X are all 1/24 scale. There is a big difference in size and so GO! is not compatible with the 1/24 scale tracks. Carrera's GO!, GO! Plus, and Digital 143 can be used interchangeably. The GO! cars, however will run on the 1/24 track.

Carrera makes both 1/32 and 1/24 scale cars. The cars in this video are 1/32.

A new slot car set will typically be around 20 to 30 feet of track which would take a space of approximately 5 ft x 8 ft. This particular track is Carrera which is 1:24 scale. Other manufacturers such as Scalextric and Policar are 1:32 scale which will take up slightly less room given the same overall circuit length. You can also get 1:43 scale slot car track (Carrera GO!) that takes up even less space as well.

One of the great things about slot cars (and model trains, too) is that they are available in different scales. You can have cool toys regardless of your available space.

It's nice like that -- mellow. I used to race R/C cars back in the day at local tracks and even traveled to race several times a year. Very competitive and lots of uptight people. Sometimes it seemed like more of a job than a fun hobby.

@@johnniehobby Exactly. Too uptight but I prefer just having a good time. Little vodka OJ here, doobie there etc. Just enjoying the jazz etc. Never stop, too bad I live so far away or I would be joining your slotcarclub any day.

@@johnniehobby I also fly RC planes etc, joined some of these local flying clubs. Man, they were so uptight, you hardly have any flighttime on the field etc. So i went straight back to wildflying as they call it here. Just pick a nice spot and you have all the time and space. It´s like all these clubs aren´t about having fun anymore but more about rules and regulations, hierarchy bla. It gets old quick.

Digital slot car tracks have the option for virtual fuel. When running with that option, after a certain number of laps drivers will need to pull their cars into the pit lane where the fuel level is replenished (virtually, of course). Also, with digital you can have up to six cars on a two-lane track thus more than one car can occupy a lane. When putting a car on the track, or if stopping a car to take it off the track it's a good idea to use the pit lane to do that. Otherwise, that car can be in the way of other traffic when it's not moving.

Most likely the reason for not having sound like with model trains is because of weight. With locos, more weight is good. With slot cars not so much. It would be cool, though.

Good to hear. The stock gearing is probably perfect for a beginner. When you get more comfortable with it you may want to change the pinion gear like in the video. It'll really wake up the performance.

Wrecks in the tunnel are quite rare but there is access from underneath. We have the youngest guy present go get the car. Us older guys avoid crawling around on the floor as much as possible.
