My name is Jenine and I'm an upholsterer and boat canvas maker. I also like to tinker on cars and trucks with my partner in crime, Tim. I make upholstery and boat canvas videos, with a side dish of vehicular content.
Tim and I each have over 20 years of experience working in the automotive and marine industries. We like to share our knowledge and tips and tricks that we've learned along the way. We also like to show some of the fun and creativity that we have with our personal projects.
Currently I'm building a 1979 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, and Tim is building a 1964 Chevy Impala.

Ripped Seam? How to Fix Your Upholstery
มุมมอง 73721 วันที่ผ่านมา
Does your upholstery have a failing seam? No problem! With a bit of labour and minimal materials (thread) you can fix it like a pro. This will work on most upholstered items, the only difference is the fasteners - ie staples, hog rings etc. Super fun bonus footage if you stick around until the end :D

Very Nice, I was looking at getting a long arm machine coming up and the Chinko looks very similar to my Juki so I might have to look for one
Nice video. 😊
Thank you :)
Great job in explaining the process and how your machine works.
Thank you :)
This was great. I learned some good tips!
Thank you, I'm happy to hear that! :)
Another straight forward, pleasently presented " here's what I do and how I do it" video from J9... Chikon, actually ALL the industrial machine manufacturers should include this video with EVERY machine imo... simple to understand, no teckno fluff, straight forward intro to a walking foot machine and it's features. Again, well done j9!!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you think so, I appreciate that :)
Great job J9 excellent video tutorial ! I am 68 years young, and been in the auto repair and upholstery for the last 55 years! your wealth of skills and knowledge can be appreciated by one who is also as skilled ! it is so great to see a young person with these skills, just amazing J9. Great job young lady !
Thank you so much! Bonus points because you called me young ☺️ I bet you have worked on some interesting projects over those 55 years! I look forward to many more projects and challenges myself. Your kind words are appreciated, thank you :)
Merci de France Continue like that…
Je ne parle pas francais - Hello! Thank you for being here :)
Thanks for the insight on this machine. Did you order this online? I'm from the south of you in California. Thank you for sharing your skills and tips.
My pleasure! We purchased it from a store in Vancouver (Canada) and had it delivered to us, also in Canada. If you're in California, I don't doubt you'd be able to find one online, or perhaps even used. We tried to find a used one, but around here it was impossible. Thank you for watching :)
@j9theupholsterer Thank you
Actually pretty cool machine. Looks well made and something that will last many years.
I hope it does, I love it :)
love to hang out with you and watch you work
Thank you
first from Poland :) greetings
Hello! I am happy you are here :)
Seems like I read somewhere that if you rock the pedal backwards on the needle positioners, that it will lift it to the top position for removal?? Pretty new to all this so not sure if I’m understanding it right. Thanks for the video!
Interesting! My machine doesn't do that, but there are often differences between makes and pedal setups. I will look into that more for sure! Thanks for watching :)
I dig the caddy, I'm currently working on 85 Fleetwood I'm anxious to see your finished product Please continue to post progress videos ❤
A Fleetwood, nice! I will definitely show more progress, thanks for the interest! :)
Bravo. These are banging. 🎉🎉🎉🎉👌🏽🗡️🗡️🗡️
Thank you so much!! :)
Good tip! Thanks!
You're welcome!
Color : (Essie Exspressie Air Dry) and yes its spelled correctly. it’s a very cool bluish nardo-ish grey-ish color that only exists on one other car on the planet. Because it’s originally a nail polish color but a good paint shop can color match it. 💯 I apologize for the extra detail, I just seriously geek out hard over paint colors on cars.
Thank you for your suggestion, I googled it to check it out. That is a cool colour! It seems like it would change a lot depending on lighting too, and I like the moodiness of that 👍👍
@ it does., most folks can’t decide whether if it’s gray or if it’s blue or if it’s silver, etc. that’s why I like it so much
@mrgreezy1 I dig it 👍
Original colour your favourite color not black...lol
Thank you, the original colour is pretty nice 👍 I probably won't paint it black ☺️
Good work! Impressive!
Thank you! :)
Those were nice cars. Wishing you success! PS love the 64!
Thank you so much, I appreciate that!
@@j9theupholsterer Thank you for saying so! Your welcome! Keep up the good work!
Too short video 👌🏻😢
You want to see more? Maybe the next one will be longer. Thank you for watching! :)
Evening orchid paint
Great suggestion, that's a beautiful colour!
Needs more cowbell!! Sewriously, lookin great ..as far as colors...well...as cliche as it may sound...I think a REALLY soft pink weould look phenominal!! Also a fan of purples...or best of both worlds...maybe a "PirPLY"?
Cowbell lol! I love the pink idea!!
Did see 1 or 2 of those Caddy's close to that year just run at Mecums in Kissimmee this week, 1 was was very close in color. Keep Plugin you'll get her done!
I bet they were nice if they were there, always great to see some clean ones roll across the block. Thank you!
Awesome job!
Thanks!
Great job! Looks good!
Thank you :)
I have a 2nd gen that does the same thing.
2nd gens are awesome!
Good video! Thanks for the information.
Thank you, my pleasure
Wow this one will need some TLC! Did you do a compete video on this one? Phillip Hall
This is my current Cadillac project, I'll be making videos as I make progress. Definitely needs TLC lol
@ :)
Thanks for the video, I have a question. Once the foam is once again restored with steam, how long, or how much more wear can it take? Is the foam just as good as new? Thank you! Phillip Hall
It depends on the foam, if it bounces back it usually has a bit of life left, but not quite as good as new. If steam doesn't help, it's time for new foam.
@ Thank you. :)
The wink sold me. Awesome
Lol 😉
Hi Janine, what stapler are you using? I saw the 22 gauge ss fine wire staples. Are they T50? Great work. Thanks 👍🏼
My stapler is a Rongpeng. It's not the greatest quality, but is ok-ish. And the staples are 7100 series 3/8" stainless steel. Thank you so much!
Great work!!
Thank you :)
No you can’t fix everything with tape, not even with ‘duct tape’ 😮lol! That’s why there’s Upholsters….. 😁
Haha, yep! ... ... gorilla tape is pretty great though lol
@ Yep! lol 😁
👏👏👏
:)
Love the videos what type stitch do you use and what length?
Thank you for watching! I used a plain stitch for this. For a repair I try to match the original stitch length, in this case roughly 2-3mm
If you don't mind me asking, what does that one cushion cost?
Around here it's worth $500
What brand of sewing machine and staple gun are you using?
My sewing machine is a Chikon CK-8BL-1. My stapler is a Rongpeng, and honestly it's not the greatest quality. Anything that shoots stainless staples in various lengths will do.
@@j9theupholsterer Thank You.
More video, please!
Ok :)
Hi. Little hend. I love se e you chennal nau. You butifu woman , many like for you!!!
Thank you
Ahhhh...the joyous sound of staple pulling!!! Remember kids....you can NEVER have too many staples in the backerboard!!! Gaur-annn-teeed to make the next person to reupholster the piece scream in joyous...err...n/m...lol. It's even BETTER when the piece is on its 3rd or 4th recover and nobody bothered to pull the old staples lol. Always good to ensure a quick break while starting another pot of coffee lol. Seriously J9, great job!! You have a way of really simplifying the teardown and repair so it it can be understood easily. I LOVE the fact that you don't cut corners when fabricating, and always seem to add value in alittle extra attention to detail!! Keep up the GREAT work!!
Oh yes, multiple layers of staples is ALWAYS a good time!! I definitely fire a few extra staples in for the next guy, lol --- but it sucks when that's me haha. Thank you for such nice words, I really appreciate it! :)
great job!
Thanks!
hello yes please kindly film it i would like to watch please ok?thank you very much 😊
👍👍
hello very beautiful video please kindly film how to thread and operate your industrial sewing machine please ok?thank you very much 😊
Thank you, that is a good idea for a future video :)
Removing old vinyl roof adhesive is really a frustrating chore. Hang in there. 🙀
Oh., take it off
Yes it is! Thank you :)
Had a question did the transmission bolt direct to the engine th400 bop trans correct
Nope! We made a 3/8" adapter plate and torque converter spacer to make it work. There is a kit available from Summit Racing but we felt like making one. Here's the video link if you're interested :D th-cam.com/video/ZQCwB20iDa4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=04ZOcMAO8QIZ1g0a
😮- i would have just dyed it to the other color. Or was this not an option? Do you still have this top (the one torn off) maybe i can use it on my 78 Coupe and dye it to match the original color. Code Y Mulberry
I plan on painting the roof instead of a vinyl top. Unfortunately this one ripped when I took it off. But, I think you can buy a factory style top, possibly in the colour you're looking for.
@j9theupholsterer I was thinking of the same as an alternative to vinyl but then I'd have to prep the the top and mold the back glass frame, so no, that's no longer an option. Didn't look like it ripped when taking it off, I did see you tear it towards the end of clip once it was all removed. I had made my comment before the conclusion of video. And yes I can, there's a business out in Oregon that specializes in auto fabric and they have the color of my vinyl top. I was quoted about $600 to have it stitched up and sent over. This was 2 years ago when I first got my 78 Coupe. Now that same quote is at about $900. I had the $$ to get it done this year but unfortunately my 78 Coupe overheated and spent the $$ for its repair. I've seen a video here on TH-cam where a guy fills in the cracks on his vinyl top on a t-bird with leather filler, sands it, and preps it with SEM vinyl paint and the results are amazing. I'm considering this route. We'll see.....have a good one
It surprised me when it ripped, I wasn't expecting that. The tbird top that you mentioned sounds interesting! I've seen many painted, but not to that extent. It would be neat to see it in person. I definitely have a huge job ahead of me haha
What was you thinking. I try not to think, it makes me dizzy
I was thinking I wanted something different :)
@j9theupholsterer story of my life
Oooooooh, "...what was I thinking?..." Hahaha - I wasn't!!
I enjoyed the video, and, the learning process. Are you going to be making follow-up videos on this project? Thanks, Phillip Hall
Thank you! Yes, I'm planning on making videos during the whole build, and showing what I'm working on along the way.
@ Good! I’m looking forward to the progress! Nice car by the way.
@PhillipHall01 I'm glad to hear that, and thank you!
WHAT WAS WRONG ABOUT THAT BEAUTIFUL BIG BLOCK 425!?!?!
Mine was junk, but I do have a genuine appreciation for a nice running 425.
@j9theupholsterer oh
Did you change it yourself?
@@PhillipHall01 I did a lot it myself, but I also had help from my partner Tim.
@ Impressive. I am in the beginning stage of learning Upholstery and found your channel. Does Tim do upholstery as well?
Music to my ears and a sight to behold 😊 Thanks for sharing this!
I'm glad you liked it! :)
