How much did you have invested in this project I’m currently debating on restoring one
My estimate is around $4k at this point. Good thing I wasn't concerned about profit haha
Hopefully, this fix cures the new sound. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for making the video, I wanted to see which engine it had. Might get one for free just to swap the engine into something else.
All that work and your using generic fluid???????
Some for flushing if I remember correctly but the final fill was the good stuff
Excellent mentioning how coldness can contract the o-rings! My 2001 Honda Accord, I have replaced by myself the power steering pump (made in China one, as the OEM one is ridiculous expensive). Regardless, the aftermarket part seems fine. But I do get a tiny whining noise EVERY cold morning briefly. When the car is warm up, no more noise. The o-rings I got are OEM but the pump itself is not. So the fit is not exactly 100%. I still have original OEM pump, and I am going to rebuild it. Until then, I change the o-ring(s) once a year to stop the whining noise in cold mornings. *REMEMBER*: The BLACK o-ring goes with pressure line, where the two 10mm nuts are. The *ORANGE* o-ring goes to the other hose. The orange one is only used for V6 engines. If you have a 4-cylinder Honda Accord, it's not used.
Nothing is better than stock carbs, thats why the bike was built with them
That's your opinion and you're welcome to it 😊 over-engineered is a well known concept. If VW can run 1 carb on a 4-cylinder boxer engine then so can I. Over 8k trouble free miles on this, there's zero justification to switch to 4 CV carbs. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Love this bike. I’ve got the 81 gs450l. It’s my first bike and I can’t get enough! it can actually rip being a six speed “racer” stock from the factory. Corners like a dream because of how high the frame is suspended. Also so lucky you got the manual with it!
Where did you go for rebuild kits for this? I am struggling to find the parts to do this exact thing.
J ai remonter les courroies et une soupape échappement cylindre 2 touche le piston..
The first side looks like u didn’t push the ball joint in far enough.
Probably wouldn’t hurt to put a little grease on it before u for her it in the hole
Appreciate the content!!! Did mine today!!! Thanks !!!
I want to no How to remove the engine
did the single carb conversion effect your gas mileage?
I get 35-40 last time I did the math. Not sure off the top of my head how that compares to stock.
Juat replaced the whole pump on my sisters car because it was leaking and making noise just replace pumpnand o rings it might be the screen thats clogged
Can you share that model? I need to do the same thing to my mower
Hahaha using a hammer on a ratcheting wrench wtf 😂😂
Video is hide some information like 12 volt how to connect
Connection is incredibly simple. Both spade connectors from carburetor (choke and shut-off solenoid) get connected to positive accessory terminal at the fuse box. I connected ground (negative) with an additional wire that ends in a terminal ring that fits over the carburetor mounting stud. Hope this helps
Didnt really show how you got the seals out..technique hidden by towel
I have to ask, where did you find carb parts for your 80? I have the same bike and can't find anything for 80-82.
Good job, thanks for sharing your journey.
Great job, man! I try to put my 1200GL Standard back on the road.
Lucky. I just picked one up and struggling to get good spark. New coil, points, everything clean and still poopy. Thinking maybe condensor or its a bunk new coil but idk
Great video though, straight forward and to the point,
Thanks a lot, works for me on a odyssey 2003…..
Would have been helpful if you moved the camera some to show things like attaching the shaft drive rather than leaving it sitting where no work is visible.
I understand. But my garage is small, and sometimes filming the actual area I was working on was difficult.
WHERE DID YOU ORDER YOU'RE SINGLE CARB CONVERSION KIT ?
eBay, seller in Lithuania April 2020. The pandemic made shipping difficult. Last I looked he still had listings.
Important you should make another vídeo more detailed instaling the wire,i made a fckn mess😂😂😂
Sounds like the Starter sprag Clutch is sticking? 5 mls. of Gas under the Air Filter would have got a much quicker start.
Yeah or prefilling the bone dry carburetor bowl instead of waiting for the mechanical pump to pull fuel through dry everything and fill the bowl. As it goes, hindsight is 2020. No sticking though. Still using that starter and have done nothing at all to it
@@DustyDingus It sounded like the starter clutch was sticking on the over run. when you were blipping the throttle it was whining each time the Engine slowed to Idle.
Nice! I like the change to chrome fenders, what were the fenders off of?
Front is from 81 CX500, rear from 81 CB900C with some modification hidden under the seat
do you use a second pump to flush the system ??
Just noticed how old this video is... I'm an old man... What's your excuse ?
If I didn't care about being mean spirited, I would say, " man, you need your head examined" ! Do you really think that bike not starting right away is 'okay' ?" Instead if continual cranking, why NOT STOP ?!! And look for the problem ? There most certainly IS ONE, when you crank, & crank, & crank, & it doesn't start ! Drive me nuts ! Go over stuff, will you ? Find the problem, & correct it, so the damn thing will start reasonably ! Thank you !
How many turns did you do for the volume and bypass? Been messing with mine still lags like a video game when i take it on a spin. Thanks
Thank you, it was great video and very good explanation with all necessary details, 👍🙏
what happens if you don't pump out the old fluid and just change the reservoir and add new fluid? Also where do I get the hose from?
did you know that if you start the bike and lean it over to the right you can check the timing with a timing light, and not get blasted by the oil inside the stator case.
lower right side of tank is curved to go around the carb top. these bikes up to 1975 had the off set intake.
@dustydingus where did you find the OEM tensioners?
At FORD parts: mucho dollars
As “O” ring(s) are installed, is recommended and good practice, that PS fluid is applied to seat groove and “O” ring when installed. 🤟🏼.
Thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to explain the procedure, importance about draining the fluid, changing the reservoir, and part numbers.
is that true? I just watched a guy frying the Starter trying to start a bike with the petcock closed?
Definitely not lol dry empty fuel system with a mechanical pump and I'm still using that starter. Maybe should've prefilled the bowl in hindsight but no, petcock was open 🤣
whew...hell of a battery you have.
So mine does the same exact squeal (not the grinding noise yours also had) but has NO leak present on either fitting. I noticed your bottom hose had gunked up oil due to possible leak. So my question is, can the pump make this noise without a leak and the o rings be causing the noise? Or does there have to be a leak for the rings to be the culprit of the noise? Thanks in advance
Is it works only Honda or works other?
07:50. That would have been a nice experiment to cut into that reservoir to expose that filter mesh. Why? Just to see how if the flow of the liquid was hampered especially when dirty. Great video with no cursing and no unnecessary rambling.
Changing the O-Rings did it for me. (They were flat on two sides) Stubby 10mm absolutely needed, but it took me less them 10 minutes to replace them. Thanks!
Awesome video thanks.
Hey man awesome video! May i ask what you ended up doing with the PCV hoses?
Back in 2001 I put a single Holley carb kit on a 78 GL 1000. I let people talk me into doing that, because they said I would never be able to clean and adjust stock Goldwing carbs properly. That's hogwash of course and I shouldn't have listened. I had already been very successful in rebuilding carbs for many different Jap bikes - dirt, street, singles, twins and inline fours. I was doing that as a side business for a while. However the single kit did work acceptably well on my Wing , but still not as good as stock carbs which are clean and adjusted properly. I'm not however disparaging anyone who wants to do the VW carb conversion. It's definitely easier to tune, and basically a quicker fix, but there are some minor performance drawbacks. Now I have recently purchased a 1980 GL1100 that's had a very long garage nap, and I'm absolutely going to rebuild the carbs myself. Happy riding folks!
Thanks a bunch. Worked on that elusive screw under the plastic pipe fitting for a few minutes and was really struggling. Stopped the video at 12:47 and saw the wrench and your angle and was able to pop the screw in 2 minutes. THANKS!!!!
