FlyFishRC Atlas 4 LR - 4" ultralight drone frame for sub-250g build with DJI O3 Air Unit
The FlyFishRC Atlas 4 LR is a 4inch drone frame designed around the DJI O3 Air Unit with ultralight sub-250g builds in mind. I love ultralights because they fly forever on small batteries and are super silent & perfect travel companions or park fliers when you don't want to attract attention.

    My 3.5in is at 290g with battery. I still believe 1000g is a better number but FAa will never do it. Or 1000g for hobbies and 250 for business. I am so close to 250 I am changing my motors but will still be 10g over 250g

      I totally agree with you, 250g is such an arbitrary number! I can do sub 250g for the sake of doing it, but my 6s setup (over 250) is so much better 😁

Don't get the August "pro" stack with the aluminum heatsinks, it's too tall and it doesn't fit into the frame well. Good luck, let me know how it goes!

For the GoPro mounts, there are loads to choose from, but make sure to choose one that is for the regular (non-hd) version of the frame, because the spacing of the front standoffs, which is where the GPS mont would be screwed in, are different...

      @colibrifpv 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey there Lukas, don't worry about questions feel free to ask, this hobby is super confusing until you get your head around things! No, I didn't use a throttle limit on these quads, no need, they use 4s batteries and the motors are designed for 4s. However, I have run both of these with 6s batteries, and in that case I did use a motors output limit. Basically I limited the voltage going to the motors in Betaflight by one third since 6s is 1/3 more voltage than 4s. That way I could use 6s batteries without harming the motors...

    Used this frame for my first build, I went for diatone 1404 3000KV (GEPRC Tern-LR40 has 1404 4000KV), some calculations and details can be found on rotorbuilds (when I will publish it). I fly 4s mostly 850mAh and it's easy 6-7 minutes cruise, 3s 1150mAh also works but it's not great. I only use the front and back TPU, the legs (socks) TPU barely held on legs, a friend is working on TPUs that mount through motor holes. Even so with SpeedyBee F405 mini stack and Foxeer Reaper VTX and 13g RunCam ThumbPro it's ~200g without battery. The only LiIOn battery that according to my calculations would not be too strained for high discharge was GNB 4000mAh with 4x21700 and I have to fly 2 bladed props, 3 bladed would take too much power. Battery is decently warm after ~15 minute flight, but with such +400g weight the hover throttle is easily around 50%, so it's a stretch. Maybe for the long range the recommended 1804 would really be better, my eCalc addiction failed me there heh. The threads on 25x25 mounting holes are bit annoying, so mounting 20x20 stack is a bit awkward but it's possible to mount it securely and nicely with 'golden nut' setup as Chris Rosser recommends. Kind of tempted to do another build with WalkSnail and 1804 3500kv 4s and mount GPS above front camera., although the back mount works with Foxeer nano GPS and with VIFLY GPS-mate works well and lock happens within 2-3 minutes. Overall it's great frame, and XT30 in TPU is great, I managed to send it to a soft ground at 50km/h by accident without any damage, but hard surface would kill those arms for sure.

      Sounds like a good choice for a lightweight build and efficient flights. What size batteries were you able to fit keeping sub-250g? 4s is the most practical choice for a lightweight build like this.

    • @Pulecocz
      @Pulecocz 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@colibrifpv Sadly none. Wth 200g weight, I would have to use tiny below 50g battery and even my smallest 4s 650mh is 73g. I would have to run AIO, don't use vifly GPS mate, no TPU and then maybe it would be ~250g. Honestly, I just wing it. At the flying field I was doing maiden flights and didn't want to push, then at that second location where the waterfall is, I was flying super careful because if you go down over that forest there is no chance of getting the drone back. I can say that on 6s batteries, those 1804 motors will rip on a lightweight quad like this, the power to weight ration is crazy!

    Great Video! I received the frame today and will order the other parts later today. I think I will go for 4s with Flash 1804 3500Kv Motors. I also like the top/front mount for the gps (not included, but aviable in the thingiverse parts kit) to keep the gps away from the vtx antenna.

    • @colibrifpv
      @colibrifpv 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's a great combo you went for, and I think putting the GPS up front is a good idea... I put mine in the rear because I want to have the option to use the GoPro mount with my GP Bones, but having GPS up front will get you better reception and you can leave out that rear mount to save some weight. If you don't mind going over 250g you should try some li-ion packs with your build, it's a great match for super long flights!

      @colibrifpv 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's awesome, is yours sub-250g with that setup? Those 1604 motors should be lighter and more efficient for this ultralight build, but I wanted to have the option to fly mine with a GoPro Bones, and on smallish 850mah 6s it flies 👌Although I have to admit that mine is not a "true" sub-250g build, I can run 4s 550mah under sub250g, just to say I can, but I don't think it's really possible to do 6s under 250g...

      @@colibrifpv yeah I don’t think it’s feasible for it to be a sub 250 long range build. Mine isn’t sub 250. I think you’d be able to easily carry a GoPro bones with these 1604s. I ran a 6s 1200mah and the motors were completely cool.

    • @colibrifpv
      @colibrifpv 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hey thanks for watching! Yeah, I looked very closely at the Cinelog 25 from GEPRC, and I went with the Pavo25 V2 mostly for the better power system... the larger motors on the Pavo25 V2 give me the option to carry a GoPro Bones when I want too, and a 2.5" cinewhoop that can carry a GoPro is literally a do-it-all solution for most filming projects, indoors/outdoors, etc. However, the Cinelog25 does have a better camera dampening system, and GEPRC's BNF's are known to fly amazing out of the box, so it's not a bad choice either. For me it comes down to whether or not you want to carry a GoPro. If you don't, or if you want to carry a "naked" cam, consider the Cinelog25, but if you want the flexibility to carry a heavier cam (notice I flew a full GoPro Mini in this video... no way the Cinelog 25 could do that!), then consider the Pavo25 V2 👍

Mostly I was wondering and asking about overall quality(there is a bit difference in price and I thought it may be worse if cheaper...), and not planning to use goPro, for self use O3 is enough I think. In future if need for commercial usage will invest separately, but for now just fun and some memory vids. I think it's all about where you fly and being prudent in what you do.... on TH-cam I'm pretty visible so I always make sure to have a "spotter" when doing my tests and comply with all the rules 🫡

      I really like the LR40 also but for this one I wanted to do a custom build with those larger 1804 motors in order to carry a GoPro Bones. I don't think the LR40 would be good for an external cam with those smaller motors and GPS tower, although I'm sure it is more efficient...

      It's true that Flywoo popularized the 4" ultralight long range, but the Atlas 4 is no copy, it's much more robust, with larger motors in mind, and several other differences if you look closely...

    So you are measuring energy capacity in mAh? 6s vs 4s, seriously?

    • @colibrifpv
      @colibrifpv 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm demonstrating the concept that you get greater energy capacity vs. weight with li-ion packs than you do with lipos packs, and your comment is mistaken...I am not comparing 4s to 6s, I'm comparing 4s to 4s and 6s to 6s. Were I comparing 4s to 6s I would have done it in watt-hours, and I think I did talk about watt-hours in the context of the rules for taking your flight packs on airplanes. Seriously 😉

    MOZ7 (original one) is a very good machine however, the "Black Spot " and very important if you want to make LR is the FC +ESC ... They OVERHEAT after 7 to 10 min after you powered on... They need a constant air breeze to cooled down wich is not a problem in flight but wich is a bit ennoying if you land unexpectedly a bit far ... roasted FC 😢 More over when you connect it to computer to make some adjustments this will bother a bit cause you'll have ~7 min to set up your FC if you don't have a constant fans on it ... About VTX you need to rework the side plate if you use a Walksnail (a little bit too large ) but ok 2809 MOTOR very good ! Powerfull responsive heavy but they have no O-ring to protect bearing... wich is on they commercial... (if my memory good enough)

    This is the worst company that I have ever dealt with! I currently have two quads purchased from them, and the first was ordered over a month ago and just now arrived in the US as LAX. The second was purchased a week and a half ago and still has to ship. Diatone and Iflight are way faster to ship once a quad is purchased.
