That mountain flight footage is surreally stunning! Awesome craft! I saw the QAV S2 7" frame has arm braces like the Apex 7", makes me wonder how these frames compare...
Thanks a lot for that Max! It was from the Cajas National Park, just 30 minutes outside of Cuenca on the road to Guayaquil. The 7" version of this frame also caught my eye, it's basically the same frame except for the arm braces. The braces would prevent vibrations and 7" is where it's at for mountain cruising, as long as you have some massive batteries!
Your build is super clean and amazing, thanks for sharing. I wish I could solder that well. In my last 5 inch build, I looked at the Johnny FPV QAV frame and thought the same as you did, over priced but great quality. I chose the Mario 5 frame instead and was not disappointed. My build flies really great and having I'm so much fun with the AxisFlying Blackbird V3 motors I chose. My next build is a GEPRC Pulsar 10", I can't wait to see how that turns out.
Thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it! I do really like this frame, the rear camera mount is pretty unique and the rear assembly is awesome with those 5 different mounting plates, but it can complicate your build because it's hard to get that battery lead juuuuuust right 😁 The motors on this build are awesome, the 2307's rip! I have a Mario5 frame in my office I'm going to build up as soon as I have time. Good luck with that 10", your brave!
Man your feedback about the johnnyfpv motors was spot on. I had already ordered them so I figured I’d try it anyway but they were indeed wayyy to powerful for my 650g build. Got some new motors though and now it’s running perfect! I wonder if they will work on a 7” long range though….
Yes those motors will work on your 7" long-range, assuming the weight isn't over the top, and if you want better efficiency and longer flight times you could just use a motor output limit to get an equivalent KV closer to 1500...
You were right about the rear assembly being fragile. First crash (and was a minor one in grass) and completely disassembled and twisted the rear assembly. Knocked the gps module off. Can't find it. Just gonna order a new one. Other then that, it's a badass drone.
If you broke the rear assembly you can order the replacement parts on GetFPV for about $20. Although it does make me wonder if a TPU print would be more durable and likely to survive the next crash???
@colibrifpv I'm hoping so. It finally shipped after 3 weeks of waiting so we will see. And the rear assembly didn't break, it just came loose. All I had to do was realign everything including the xt60 plug and screw it all back together using blue loctite. Now I'm having trouble with wobbles in my image transmission through the goggles. Hoping it's just the propellors. I've already tightened the camera screws as tight as I can get them and 2 of them have already stripped. Either gonna get 1.7 or 1.8mm screws and try that or just put Teflon on the 1.6mms. Do you think those little grommets that go through the camera plate could be causing the vibrations/wobbles? It's not the drone that wobbles, it's the camera. But it's on so tight and barely moves. (Oh, and it only happens around 25% throttle. Weird.) I've already adjusted the pwm frequency. It can't be my tune presets because it wasn't doing it before. Update: so I just did a test flight with some new propellers and it is much better still a little bit of wobble around about 30% throttle but I think replacing the screws and fixing the stripped out threads in the camera itself will fix that. Or I'll just take this one and put it in a older drone and buy a new DJI 03
Hi Colibri, been following your build for this frame and your past GEPRC M5 build post - all awesome content and i have both! Now that DJI O4 is out, wondering if you are also looking for camara mount for this frame. Hope it'll come out soon. Cant wait, cheers!
He, thanks a lot for watching 👊 Yes, I've been wondering the same thing, and I just saw that GEPRC released an O4 upgrade kit. It is like $20 because it comes with new front camera mount, but the MK5 with an O4 properly mounted would be killer! Here it is... bit.ly/MK5o4UP I'm about to order one, unfortunately they raised their shipping rates so I have to combine a few more things to make it worth it...
Could you have the kindness to tell the height of the rear assembly aluminium part please ? I wish to adapt it on another frame to have a rear view gopro mount.
Sure no problem, the rear assembly standoff is 23mm, so if your frame is 23mm high you're good! I suppose you could also use some washers or something to adapt it to a taller frame but not ideal. What frame is it? Are there 3d prints available?
Hi Jack, I'm using 5x4x3 props and when I fly in the mountains sometimes I use HQ 5x4.8x3. I like higher pitch props because I fly at altitude, I live in the Andes at fly at 10,000-12,000 ft, and I'm usually just cruising trying to get scenery shots where I want a high cruise speed to go the distance and I don't care as much about maneuverability. Lower pitch props are probably better for ripping around aggressively, freestyle, etc. I recommend HQ props if you're not sure, they have been super durable for me...
Just wrapped up one of these frames as my first build since 2018. Stingy hardware kit, I agree, but a better bang for your buck than other $100 frames. I'm looking at you ImpulseRC. And this is coming from someone who had 6 Aliens!
Do you have the Argus "Pro" with the heatsinks? It will still fit but it might be a little tight since those heatsinks make that stack taller. I would recommend either this "Eco" stack bit.ly/ArgusEco or this one, without the heatsinks bit.ly/ArgusProPlugs If you already bought the one with the heatsinks don't stress about it too much, you can make it fit, it will just be tight, and it is a higher end stack anyway.
Hey thanks for the feedback! It's called nylon cable sleeve, nylon mesh cable wrap, or something similar. I bought it from RaceDayQauds, but you can also get a roll of it on Amazon super cheap, just pay attention to the width. Then I add a bit of heat shrink to each end. I use heat shrink with an adhesive, it's great because it grabs that nylon mesh when you heat it up, other heat shrink will slip off... amzn.to/4elM9yd Are you building up this frame or something different?
Amazing, I just built my first 5in. This past weekend. The “itsfpv era frame.” Using the sequre fc & esc 70amp with AOS motors. Are you flying a default tune or custom tune on your build? I haven’t flown it yet.

Also, my style is mostly cruising and trying to get scenery shots where I want a high cruising speed to go the distance and I don't care as much about maneuverability. It’s a pretty nice Build, but i prefer my deadcat geprc Mark 5 over this one. You mentioned the problem with spare parts from geprc, and my solution to the problem is, that I ordered some replacement arms back then, when I bought the Mark5. Thanks a lot for your feedback, I really appreciate it! I live in Ecuador and I fly high up in the Andes whenever I get the chance.
