Did I waste my money or would you have done the same?

82 I struggle with a top 6 3 or 4 absolute bangers but not a strong year for me. Restless and Wild would rank high for me though and was my guess for your glaring ommision.
@@metalmogul I've had a lot of Accept in a short time really and for some reason that one hasn't had the plays that the others have. Im going to give it some attention as I know it's decent now that Im ok with the singing lol.
Another cracking video, Mike. Anti-nowhere League and Misfits were a bit of a surprise. It probably won't be a surprise that I'd have picked NOTB for number 1 😂 and probably Iron Fist pretty high 😉
Cheers mate. Yeah I know you are big on NOTB being your first album it's always going to be a huge one. Anti Nowhere League along with King Kurt are the earliest bands I was into after the chart stuff like Madness and Adam and the Ants so it's similar to your Maiden.
@metalmickey King Kurt are another blast from the past. I'm definitely going to find some Anti-Nowhere League to reintroduce them to my ears 👍
This is a very good series
@@johnj.baranski6553 Thank you
I first saw Motorhead on the Bomber tour but knew of them since the 1977 "debut" (1976's "On Parole" was the real debut) album. Motorhead was my favourite band but I have NEVER been more disappointed by a newly released album than I was by Iron Fist. What a pile of 5hlt3 that album was & is. Even Fast Eddie thought so as he left the band shortly after the Iron Fist tour stating that he didn't like the direction the band was going in. All a matter of taste I suppose but Dear Lord what a climb down from the earlier albums Iron Fist was. I lost interest in Motorhead after that & never bought another single or album & never saw them live ever again.
@@ANationalAcrobat-qj2dl Well I've always sorted of liked the early stuff but last year I really warmed up on them. I have everything up to 1988 live album. After that they changed too much and started to write differently so I'm not interested.
@@metalmickey If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? I turned 60 a couple of months ago.
@@ANationalAcrobat-qj2dl I'm 51
I do like the song " Black Metal " by Venom. But they are not one of my favourite bands. I was also surprised by " Night Of The Demon " I thought it was gonna be way heavier than what it was. Still pretty good. " High In Dry " is awesome.🤘
@@AttackFromDownunda It's basically AOR that Demon album. High n Dry is my favourite Def Leppard
Another good selection there mate I'm not the biggest kiss fan but creatures is an album I do like definitely their heavy metal record number of the beast was my introduction to maiden although it's not my fave by them it's still in the top 3 for me
I think as the 80s go on the choice for me is way bigger.
Hi Mike!!! Cool list and you know what i always loved "invaders" it has a special meaning to me, it was the first song i heard from Maiden, my brother got back from school with a dub cassette copy of "TNOTB", pressed play and never looked back, lol. cheers
Ah well that's fair enough I understand if a song is your first exposure to a band you'll see it differently.
1 - Rush_Signals 2 - Judas Priest_Screaming for Vengeance 3 - Scorpions_Blackout 4 - Iron Maiden_The Number of the Beast 5 - Vandenberg_Vandenberg 6 - Kiss_Creatures Of The Night You've mentioned that about Judas Priest before. Have you heard their 70s albums? It isn't quite as heavy, but some of that stuff is borderline prog. Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin After Sin and Stained Class are 3 of their best albums.
@@wm-nu1yf I've forgotten what I said without going through the video lol. Yeah I have the 70s stuff apart from the debut.
@@metalmickey You mentioned that they never change tempo throughout a song. Which is definitely true on a lot of their 80s stuff.
Some excellent picks here Mike, especially Maiden and Priest. Was surprised to not see Signals by Rush here. Great video as always mate
Cheers mate. As much as I'm loving Rush and I love Subdivisions, that Signals album I think is the weakest one of the ones I like. I think Grace Under Pressure is better than that one and that never seems to get a mention.
Maiden for me, that's it.
No Misfits eh. Have you tried them?
@@metalmickey I hate Danzig mate, elvis wannabe
@@under-one-flag Well he is I agree but Misfits is a million miles away from Danzig lol
We Are the League Great album. There from Tumbridge Wells
@@adamsalem7050 That's it yes. Nice one I just couldn't think of that. I watched the documentary about them it's decent if you haven't seen it
Some great stuff there Mike , great to see The league up there . The Misfits would be up there for me as well , I would have Dead Kennedys , Descendents and The exploited up in my top albums of 82 as well.
@@Rods__73 I have Given me Convenience but that's it for DK and them others I don't know tbh
Delighted to see Demon make it in. I get what you mean with Killers (and the debut from the last video) but I've heard them that many times now I do recognise the songs and can name them - I have Drifter on loop in my head right now!
@@metalmogul I rarely make it that far back in the Maiden catalogue anymore really. I've concentrated my listening to everything after Seventh Son for a good few years now.
I think there are a few albums out there under the banner of nwobhm you'd like. I've always found it a strange genre tag, you know what you're getting with Thrash or Glam metal as it defines a particular sound, but nwobhm is just a bunch of bands from Britain at a certain point in time. Always good to hear you're take on these bands though, Maiden would be the only one of these in my top 6 I think.
@@metalmogul Believe it or not a lot of NWOBHM for me sounds like women singing. I don't know the first thing about it really but everything I've ever tried that isn't in this video I wasn't keen on.
Remaster is very good guys loll
Ι love it both!!
Good picks. I saw Priest live recently which reminded me how good a song I think "Electric Eye". I have to admit that I've always loved "Invaders', because it's so weird in a way.
@@This-Is-Music Yeah that is weird 😂 it's not absolutely awful but I don't care for it.
1982 is a bit hard for me, almost none of the records strike me really hard. Maiden would be up there and even above that the Manowar debut. Yeah, I guess Manowar would be my No. 1. Back then I had a friend that had EVERYTHING by The Misfits, every single, every album and bootlegs. He would show them but you were not allowed to touch them, hahaha... He even would not make a cassette copy...
@@albertampel4175 Their stuff is worth big money these days and I think it always has been compared with other stuff at the time. Glenn Danzig is the worst business man ever 😂. Imagine how much he could work that back catalogue these days with boxes and colours etc.
Nice surprised to see Priest make your list, I thought the Scorpions would of made it over it! Misfits & that other one I have no idea on, both a big part of your youth. I’ll work on my 1983 guesses 👊
@@darcysixstringsninelives3493 Ive never liked Blackout. I love the actual song Blackout but I've always scratched my head at the praise that album gets. The back end of it I find especially dull. Misfits is ahead by quite a bit really.
When did all the advertising start to appear on this channel?
@@moodlefyful Probably coming on for 2 years I think.
Loving this series 😊
@@TJCAFF1 cheers 🤘
Your number six is my number ten. Creatures Of The Night is the only 80's Kiss that I have. On CD not vinyl. Your number three and number one are a pleasant surprise. You need to check our Fear The Album and Angry Samoans Back From Samoa. I got into Metallica because they covered Misfits and Discharge.
Oh ok il try that album. I don't think I've listened to a Discharge album all the way through.
@@metalmickey GBH City Attacked By Rats is also killer.
Good stuff Mike , the NOTB is probably the pick of these for me but I do love the Misfits album too
I think the artwork is a big pull with that album too. It perhaps makes it seem better but it is great though.
Excellent choices!

Hi Mike!!! i think i know what ypu mean with Maiden's second album, its a great album, but some songs can easily be forgotten by name, but the minute you start playing them you recognize it and that's odd too. Venom might be an acquiered taste for many heavy metal fans. cheers mate
@@cristianosorio2517 It's strange about Killers isn't it. Cheers Christian
We are, judging by your accent from more or less the same neck of the woods. Totally get what you are saying about Cronos and also Abaddon from Venom. Conrad Cronos was forever on the receiving end of jokers in Trillians bar n Newcastle where he’d play the rock star, and invariably get, as we say on Tyneside, chinned!
@@drpaulmasonphd Yeah I know Trillians well. Used to go over there loads in the start of the 90s. Mayfair, Trillians, Fat Sam's, Three Bulls Heads, Farmers etc. He's probably been in the same pubs over the years
Another excellent video Enjoying these. Killers is my favourite Maiden album. I appreciate what you say about albums that you can’t really remember the individual songs. With Maiden on Piece of Mind and Somewhere in time. No idea how the longer songs go, away from the live staples. Venom are an odd ball band. For a band that was much more influential than the traction they gained. As I’m from the North East, Neat records was a big deal. Big enough for HMV to have a full window display for the release of Possessed in Newcastle. Venom were interviewed on local metal radio on a regular basis. But by ‘84 their bubble had burst. The gig at Newcastle City Hall was not even half full. I love the early albums. But not many people did. 81’s Welcome to hell is for me a classic. I don’t think anyone took their ‘satanism’ seriously. I don’t remember them ever claiming to be devil worshipers. It was all tongue in cheek. That clearly didn’t translate to audiences in the US. Let’s face it by 86 they were considered a bit, well naff in the UK. Metallica et al surpassed them with professionalism, song writing and increasing brutality. The into to Leppards, Hit n run is great. My favourite album by them. Diary of a madman is very good. An album from ‘81 worth checking out, is Y&Ts Earthshaker. A far cry from their pop rock later in the 80s.
Cheers mate. I do have a couple of Y_T actually. Black Tiger and Meanstreak. I didn't get into anything else they did especially that later ones as you said
I'm enjoying this style of video mate I actually find myself listening to killers more an more it's easily a top 5 maiden album for me these days demon is a recent discovery for me as well I definitely want the 1st two albums in the collection at some point looking forward to your picks for the rest of the decade
@@robertmorris8371 Thanks Robert glad you are enjoying them. No bad Maiden you understand.
I found a copy of Breaker a couple of years ago I think it’s time to pull it out again for another spin 🤘slap a da bass 😂😂 I love that movie. I prefer modern Venom and Venom Inc over the earlier stuff but I do own an OG copy of Black Metal that gets a spin every now and then.
@@bvdaussiemetalhead9338 Yes do, it's certainly a good one. I've got a couple of thrash vinyl updates once all these are finished too
Great stuff Mike, I think Moving Pictures is the pic of these albums for me but all really good pics including the Demon album, which I don’t have 😃 I Love you Man was that Paul Rudd movie you’re thinking of “ Slappin The Bass” 😂fun movie
😂 yes that's the one mate.
I don’t think Iron Maiden are very good song writers.
Totally subjective and dependent on your tastes. For example I like more songs by Iron Maiden than I do by the Beatles or Bob Dylan (better than him, easily). I am sure there are many people who would think that’s madness. But I would also think someone saying Iron Maiden are not very good songwriters is ridiculous.
@@jimmycampbell78 I have been called ridiculous many times.
@@vinylrichie007😂 room for one more lol
I had to think about that for several hours... Best Rock Album of 1981? Foreigner´s "4"! ...and I´m serious!
😂 I've never heard it but I thought they are very light aren't they?
Hi Mickey! At the end of the day, it all depends on what you're listening to, and therefore on what you've discovered at one time or another and the impression it's left on you. One thing's for sure: you have to be free to listen to and enjoy what you want, without being laughed at by others. A childish attitude that has absolutely nothing to do with the rock 'n roll spirit. Also, we shouldn't always take everything so seriously, the world is serious enough as it is. Cheers dude! 😊🤘
Exactly 💯. I can't take myself seriously look at the state of me 😂
@@metalmickey 😅👍
All great picks, I had a feeling you’d have that at #1. Killers is one of those albums that I can play in my head at will. Early Venom is awesome, but I don’t need to own or listen to anything past the first four albums.
I don't know what it is about Killers that I don't revisit it much. Probably that there's so many now that I just don't get down that front end much.
Killers is a great Maiden album. It was the first I bought by them (on cassette) and I played it to death, so when you said those song titles I can genuinely replay them in my head. I think a lot of people overlook it and aren’t as familiar with it as they should be. Its a ‘between’ album, between the debut with its impact and the impact of Number of the Beast, first with Dickinson.
@@jimmycampbell78 Good point that. Every band has them types of albums I suppose. There are no bad Maiden albums to me. Even them Blaze ones.
That was a proper creative Short. I hope it generates a few subs! 🤘
@@jimmycampbell78 Thanks Jimmy.
Another interesting list, Mike. Odd seeing Killers so low but I must admit it's not an album I reach for very often. Accept, Rush and Hard of Hearing Cat are 3 bands that i can't get away with. A very valid point about Venom too 😂
@@seanbeast939 I can't argue about Rush and Accept. They aren't for everyone but I'm all about giving the older ones a chance again...and again 😂. Shorter albums and pleasant production goes a long way now with me.
Killers could be my favourite album of all time on a good day! Just a monster of an album. I had the original cassette and wore it out going to school the little time I did go haha. Great video mate 😉🤘🏻

Kind of reminding me of my series going thru the years, though I wasn't so much looking at the TOP releases as much as the top releases of the ones I currently owned on vinyl.
