One thing that's really interesting is let's say it took a million years to build the relays and ect, if the reapers have been around for over a billion years, then there had been over 50k "cycles" before humanity and the united galaxy stopped them
When sovereign talks to shep, you just know they command respect, and they are leviathans creation, imagine if the ai had not turned on their creators
When you think about it, you would have to be unlucky to be born/alive during the harvest. Unless your asari, then 50/1 chance 😅
See, you might *think* you're lucky because you're living at the absolute peak of civilization.
Wow, I just found this vid after replaying ME 1 again and looking for some lore info. This was great, you did a fantastic job summarizing the important wiki info and made it into a very easily digestible video. The music, script, visuals and everything was on point. Seriously, good job and thanks for the video. 🤘
I disagree about Mordin being so low, mostly because i don't see him going for a firefight. He's a biologist who updated a species wide plague and created an immunity to reaper collector tech in, at most, a few months after having never seen the tech or anything close in his life. He's no powerhouse but that's gotta count for something. ME1 does have a neural shock ability too.
5:03 what mission is this clip from? I don’t remember it at all
So *that* is "N7 - Blood Pack Communications Relay". It's easy to miss, being a completely optional mission that requires the N7 Blood Pack Base mission before it even shows up in the journal. Something interesting is that you see a Harvester show up in this mission to drop off Klizin, and Harvesters were originally planned to be enemies you could actually fight in-game. They even had a death animation programmed, but either the rest wasn't completed on time and/or they simply decided to leave it out.
the people who worked on these games learned so much about science and physics; its astounding to me. I also find it interesting as hell that past species could have very well been more technologically advanced yet were destroyed by the Reapers all the same; Sheperd was the only piece missing to fight the Reapers. A single driven force, overcoming technological odds and nature alike
Bruh, the monotone, "I am not screwing Garrus." 😂😂😂
It's actually from the game files, believe it or not. For whatever reason, the response files for Thane and Jacob were empty, but this is what you get for the Harris equivalent.
Joab being a planet of spacefaring monkey people that were wiped out by a higher power… welcome back Saiyans!
We saw barbarians as warlike and prone to mercenary behaviors.
Great narrative style, it is also very appreciated that you cite your sources for every picture !!
Well that contradicts the Leviathan AI directive. It cannot both “Persevere all life” and forgo reaper construction for races not within certain genetic parameters.
in my cycle we watched youtube videos to gain knowledge!
I SWAER I CAN HEAR YOUR CAT MEOWING
That would be Mario. He tends to do that if I'm recording or on a call. Something about speaking into a device causes his brain cell to decide it's time for him to get vocal too.
Been waiting for part 2, thanks and keep up the good work mane 🤙🏻
As a 40k fan learning that Erebus means darkness made a couple things click for me.
If I may, almost any big named imperial (or formerly imperial) character in that lore, their name will be in reference to something that illuminates us on their character.
Can’t wait for video 3! These are great ❤
The one thing I alway's questioned is that could Harbinger have survived or Escaped after leaving Earth, as Harbinger was the most intelligent of all Reaper's so wouldn't it know to get out before it's too late Everytime I played the game trio i alway's wondered it, bcos their isn't anything to show Harbinger was part of the ending, like their was nothing to show Harbinger was still in Sol System when it all happened, could have been long gone after leaving Earth after defeating all of the squad's trying to get to the Citadel If you have a theory about this, would you be able to talk about it
I can't guarantee that I'll discuss that particular item, but at some point, I will talk about the ending.
Fantastic video, love how it's framed in an almost real documentary manner, keep it up
I was wondering when you were going to upload this video
I look at it as being "Can you last as long as Garrus in the situation he was in?" If yes your at S or higher
The music is a bit loud in these last two videos
Ah man, really? I actually tried turning it down more on this video, but maybe not enough. I'll keep that in mind.
I'm a Ilos fan.
I thought the sphere on Eletania stored a Reaper observation of early humans. The description of the spacecraft sounded a lot like a Sovereign-class reaper, with the big red light being the large laser beam between the legs. Thoughts?
So the sphere *is* Prothean, given that the same style of Prothean orb is seen later in the series. As to whether it depicts *Reaper* interaction with humanity, I checked the text again and suppose it is possible. The description of the ship at least partially matches the description of a Reaper, especially the beam. It would also make sense if the Reapers knew that a human had been tagged that they'd be interested in getting rid of them as part of their normal cleanup efforts. The biggest counterargument to that, however, is that the text identifies the observation as coming from the Protheans. That's not necessarily definitive, as the mission usually happens before Shepard finds out what a Reaper is, and sometimes writers will mislead the audience in different ways. The fact that this was found from a Prothean artifact supports it, though, and some parts of the ship description (no head, a body of"shining" silver) sound at least somewhat different than Reapers. As Emperor Yoshiro would say, "Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in between."
Always great to hear from you
Thanks! I enjoy making these when I can 😁
Bump for algorithm

how do we know protheans didn't drop beacons on semi inhabitable planets as reaper insurance on the off chance of the volus or reasonable facsimile there of would evolve? or deliberately as a way of making sure the reapers wont look for it thinking protheans wont have been there and ignore it during post harvest mop up. that's what I would do.
Certainly a possibility! Along those lines, something I've talked about before when it comes to the Reapers destroying evidence of past civilizations is that given a big enough volume of artifacts and given a broad enough area (ie, the vastness of space), that it's almost impossible to find and clean up absolutely everything.
@@BartlebysCorpse oh I know, I'm a fan of your vids. I remembered you said that and I thought "why wouldn't someone take advantage of that issue with cleanup." I dunno, the moment you started questioning biology and habitation it occurred to me that it could have been a more direct strategy.
Welcome viewers! You can expect future projects and clips from my channel. Part 3 of my series on the Prothean Cycle is underway, and will cover the Prothean uplift of modern civilizations. Feel free to like and subscribe if you enjoy these videos! Also, feel free to like and subscribe if you don't.Part 3 of my series
considering the Reaper threat was known to at least certain people and governments it does seem somewhat odd that an in universe version of billionaire bunkers wasn't much more common. I think there was 1 guy who set up a bunker and had it covered in reaper beam slag as reward for trying to cheat fate but space is big and a deep space station with strict rules on numbers seems like at least 1 of the cycles would have figured it out
Well that's exactly what Protheans did with Ilos, as well as hidden stashes on Mars, Eden Prime, Thessia etc. But remember, the Reapers objective is to cleanse EVERYTHING from the previous cycle to avoid a chance of the previous cycle warning the next one about the incoming threat and they have centuries to do so therefore it's quite a feat that ANYTHING of the Protheans got preserved
Reapers aren't fooled. Somehow they're able to know and track sapient life. Shadow Broker was planning on leaving the galaxy altogether, to evade them, and I've always wondered if there might be someone else that managed to do it.
@@ThexVaultxTech Not just somehow, it was explained by the Vigil back in ME. They can access ALL the computer systems on the Citadel which is usually used as a seat of government or at least a key trading outpost by every cycle plus they can indoctrinate key political and military figures so eventually they learn every secret of the given civilization. Plus the Galaxy is their playground. They can also access logs of every mass relay so overall this is trivial for them to track movements across the galaxy
In mass effect 1 there was a wealthy volus billionaire that shacked up on a hostile planet with an army of mercs to hide away from "machine devils" that are coming to wipe the galaxy, whether the reapers came for him I'm not sure. But what you've said is addressed In Canon atleast
They were common but reaper thralls found and either sabotaged them or sent the location to the reapers.
Фухх уснул😊
One thing I find interesting in Mass Effect that i wish Andromeda made clear alot more of is that due to the Reaper trap of the relay network they essentially stopped development of more effective energy weapons against synthetic life. In Andromeda due to the lack of relays weapons tech had to be lighter to be viable for transport so the races there focuses on plasma weapons more than ballistic. Just one change in travel and logistics shifted entire species thinking.
The Zaherux conspiracy theory at the end, with the nano technology which turns hostile seems to be inspired by Stanisłav Lem's The Invincible. A Mars like planet on which sudden nano-bot storms can appear and whipe out organic life.
Well, looks like that's another thing to add to my list of things I should read...
@BartlebysCorpse I can recommend the book. It's a pretty interesting story. There is a game of the same name (which follows the same setting on the planet, but puts its story as some kind of prologue to the actual book) through which I learned about the book. Never played the game, but listened to the audio book 🙂
Oh shut the front door, dude. Miranda is the weakest human biotic in the trilogy. She is worse than Jacob, yet put her above Kaidan? Stop, OK? Miranda is the only biotic who fails shields through Seeker Swarms. She is also very squishy & her damage output is worse than Jacob’s. Let alone everyone else with biotics. Kaidan learnt how to reave which very few humans can do, he can reach Asari levels of biotic power & kicks ass in ME1 & 3 trivializing majority of combat encounters. Pair him up with Garrus who overloads shields to allow Kaiden’s biotic powers (and yours if you’re biotic) to work covering you with a sniper rifle and your enemies are cooked. Kaidan also is decently tanky with good gear in ME1, and bloody unkillable in ME3 bc he activates barrier skill constantly. Also, putting Kaidan in the same rank as Ashley?! Ashley is a mediocre space racist & doesn’t provide as much versatility to combat. She is just guns & I’m sure there characters with biotics or tech skills that will outgun her. Miranda belongs in C-tier below Jacob; Kaidan is a least A-tier, for how good he is in ME3. Garrus is easily S+ bc his aim & damage output are insane. He almost never misses and I had a few encounters where he saved my butt by taking out enemies I didn’t see. The only downside to Garrus is that you have to keep him behind via command bc he like to run into a fight while being a little squishy & can’t handle multiple enemies due to lack of CC. Also hard disagree on Aria’s placement. B maybe. She has only one good ability & frankly being forced to travel with her aggravates me. I only do the DLC for war asset boost, otherwise I’d ignore it altogether.
Your saying that a boy being found as the lone survivor of his planet by a ship called the Kent is a reference to mega mind and not Superman who was was the sole survivor of his planet and take in by the Kent family 😑. Are you high?
On life, perhaps.
Maybe its just me but that background theme is too intrusive
It's not just you. I used to defer to how it sounded on my phone (where the music sounded much less audible), but after getting some feedback similar to yours, I'll make some adjustments in future vids.
Megamind????? Wouldn't it rather be a reference to Superman? IE Kent Krypton etc...
"Perhaps the truth lies somewhere in between" -Emperor Yoshiro
is there a part 2?
Not yet, but there will be. I've been progressing on it slower than I'd like, but I am progressing on it. Actually, given the length of what I have recorded, combined with some intended re-writes and re-recording, I'll be splitting it into Parts 2 and 3, with a part 4 coming further down the pike.
I really wish you make more of these. I love any deep mass effect lore
Appreciated. This year has been busier than I expected, but I am chipping away on the rest of this miniseries...
yeah mass effect fans having zero respect for burials and not understanding why the council wants to respect other cultures' burials tracks
I work in Hazamat Demolition. Great comparison.
I wonder how many times a civilization has appeared on the same planet
Definitely possible. Part of the Drake equation involves the planet being at such a moderate distance from the local star to maintain a general temperature suitable for life, so even after life's wiped out on a world, it's more likely to reappear there than the average planet.
This is a very interesting question. Just look at Earth. You're gonna tell me that in the billions of years of life on this blue rock alone, humans are the ONLY species that EVER developed enough to grow a civilization?
Great finish
Wish i could like this twice
This actually happened
I can never seem to find it, but apparently this can also happen on this Leviathan mission, where a Brute will wail away at Shepard while conversing with Cortez and the rest of the squad
😂😂😂🎉😂😂
These videos are very well done good sir
The Leviathan’s plan to create the Reapers, whether it’s hubris or just narcissistic blindness, is just hilariously ironic when you boil it down. “All species eventually create technology that inevitably tries to destroy them. Anyway, we’re gonna make a technology to fix that, what could go wrong?”
