When you view the protheans through the lense of the scrapped dark matter ending, their overall attitude comes across as more benevolent. I think they were uplifting the Asari to counter the dark matter problem. Where the reapers sought to make room and resources available for an eventually worthy and powerful enough species to evolve and control dark matter, the protheans sought to do the same but on a scale that makes sense for organic life to conceive, and with more direct intervention.
I view the "dark matter" ending as something of a Rorschach test- since it was never finished, what *was* put out there was just enough to let fans fill in the gaps and come away with an impression of what could have been. Putting my own cards on the table, I don't think it would have worked as well as a number of fans do. It just seemed a little half baked and tough to square with everything that had been presented up to that point. And yes, at some point, I do plan on getting around to discussing the ending in more detail.
The point of the protheans isnt that they believe survival of the fittest is a rule of the universe because they were hunters, as if this ideology was some type of anomoly. The point is that every cycle before ours believed some version of this, or acted this way. Thats why synthesis was never possible, why the reapers kept culling the galaxy.
Wish I could tell you more about the artist, who goes by the handle szegvari, on the freesound website. I reached out for any additional links to share in the description and will see if/when I hear back.
Im still holding out hope that there is some surviving prothean colony or something somewhere. If javik could survive, surely there is another Ilos type ppace somewhere that better lasted.

Great stuff, your videos are engaging - you also go above and beyond to include sources and links. This is very high quality stuff and work ethos - I look forward to seeing your channel grow
Really great work - lore content was fantastic. The bsckground music makes this an uncomfortable listen though. ME1 theme music or much quieter background music in future would really improve things.
Not yet, but there will be. I've been progressing on it slower than I'd like, but I am progressing on it. Actually, given the length of what I have recorded, combined with some intended re-writes and re-recording, I'll be splitting it into Parts 2 and 3, with a part 4 coming further down the pike.
Hahaha.. I got confused for a second there at the start as my TH-cam Playlist had a bunch of 40k vids before this. Started this glancing protean in the title only to see last church quote 😅... Got me wondering if I was still watching 40k before the video begins & I see Shepard
Hi I'm new to the channel but have you ever done a video on what are the 'pawns' that the catalyst used to kill the Leviathans and where are they now. They are presumably even more powerful then reapers as they were used to kill the Leviathans who can mentally destroy even a Sovereign-class reaper in groups of 3. If this is the case why does the catalyst no longer use them? In addition, another cool theory is if the Leviathans even used Eezo tech or rather used alternate tech in addition to eezo based tech as we know the reapers made the relays and yet prior to this the Leviathans were able to control and travel the whole galaxy seemingly with no problem. Also, backing this up is the quote "Lasers are not blocked by the kinetic barriers of capital ships (bar the ones employed by the Reapers, whose barriers are capable of blocking them to an extent)" which shows that we might have not seen the peak of Eezo based tech as they are not designed to stop DEWs as far as we know.
Fair. A question- what type of device are you listening on (phone/tablet/laptop/PC) and are you using speakers, phone speaker, earbuds, headset, or something else? I ask because typically when I listen ahead of time before releasing, I tend to defer to how the volume sounds on my phone speaker moreso than my headset/PC. This is the second time I've gotten this comment, though, so I'm more than open to making adjustments accordingly.
@@BartlebysCorpse I was listening to this with my phone speaker and with no headphones. I rarely watch TH-cam on my PC so I couldn’t say how it sounds through something else. It’s not as bad as I made it sound with my initial comment but some of the beats of the music land on when you speak and the volumes are so close it muffled your voice at some parts. Good luck!
The barbarians were first mentioned in ancient Greece thousands of years before ancient rome. The word "Varvaros" was used to describe the tribes who attacked ancient greece from the far east and their language sounded like var var var. As ancient Greece was so advanced in politics and democracy, seeing those "barbarian" warmongers, living and attacking like animals, the word stuck as we use it today. ✌🏼
@@specialnewb9821 you are right about the era of “Ancient Greece”. I didn’t mean the era I meant the Ancient Greek people dating around 3500 BC known as the Minoan Civilisation. But yes you are correct the word was used about 1000 years before the romans.
I agree with comparing the Protheans with the Romans but I also like comparing them to the British Empire. Javick head resemble a tricorn hat, widely used by the british old age and the both were happy for the color red. Take the Romans and the British and fuse them into one = protheans
One of the clips used here is the "What have the Romans ever done for us?" scene from Life of Brian, and I think it's no coincidence that a British movie would go on an extended bit about how awesome sauce the Romans really were
It's not just you. I used to defer to how it sounded on my phone (where the music sounded much less audible), but after getting some feedback similar to yours, I'll make some adjustments in future vids.
Having just released something else this past week, at first I thought this comment referred to *that* video and wondered what the issue was... I've gotten some other comments about the volume since I began getting more viewers (which coincides with when I released this vid) and made a point to turn the music down since then.
Am I the only one that never picks up the prothean squadmate in 3? It's petty, but he flirts with Liara, and I don't play that shit bruh, blue space wifey is on an all me diet and your dead ass species had its chance 😆
@@SavageTyler91_aka_AlwaysNerdy I didn't say he wasn't cool. Hell the fact that Liara is so inherently interested in him is the whole reason it puts a bad taste in my mouth.
