Hi there! I'm with the team that put together the Tabletop Sim version of this CCG :) Please be sure to give it a look, it's actually got a TON more cards that were originally only released in Japan, but have been recreated in English for Tabletop Sim! It also has some automated math for power levels and a custom programmed spell book deck system! You both explained the game quite well to beginners! But I just wanted to clear up a few rulings for anyone looking to play the game who might have stumbled across this video: - Cards with an orange (mamodo), blue (partner), or purple (MJ12) frame are put on the game mat, and eventually get discarded like you did. But cards with a green (event) or yellow (spell) frame are actually supposed to stay inside the pages of the book when they're played and do not get discarded after use. You just show the individual page to your opponent and hide the other page with your free hand. This is important to remember because some cards let you reuse spell cards or turn BACK pages of your book to give you access to those cards again, which you wouldn't be able to do if they're in the discard pile. - It's true that you do NOT get magic points (MP) by turning a page of your book as damage, but it's also true that you don't get MP from turning a page by a card effect either (unless the card says otherwise). You only get MP from turning pages at the beginning of your turn and at the end of your turn. Card effects that turn your page outside of those instances are meant to just refresh your playing hand. - The binders you played with are cool, but you need to make sure that the first and final page has only one card in it, and that the other pages of the book each have 1 card on both sides. You're supposed to open to page 1, put the main mamodo card in play from that page, and then turn to pages 2 and 3 to get 2 MP and start the game. It looks like you guys started on pages 1 and 2 (instead of going from page 1 and immediately moving to pages 2 and 3), which messes up the intended synergy of the deck by modifying which cards can be played on which turn. - For cards that say "Damage the spell book when you win the Battle as an Attacker," the game mechanic that lets you protect your book from damage by having a mamodo intercept the attack DOES still apply and will block that damage. Think of it this way... If you say "I protect with this mamodo on the field", then that basically overrides the text on the attack that says "damage the opponent's spell book" for that instance. If Connor protected his book with Kanchome against the Gravirei damage, his book would have been safe and Kanchome would have been injured and turned sideways. Also, Gravirei had additional text. When its attack goes through, it reduces the Power of the opponent mamodo cards by 2000 during their next turn, so Kanchome would've been reduced to 0 until Carl's next turn began, whether Kanchome protected or not. - Carl, I'm not sure what magical coin you were flipping, but it somehow showed tails twice with two different patterns? LOL I think that might've been a mistake. One of those coin flips must have been heads, there are only 2 sides to any coin and you didn't switch the coin out between flips. So Connor should have only turned one page that time, not two. Also, you both seemed to forget that Kanchome has an effect that lets him redo his coin toss once per turn. - This one gets a lot of people, so don't worry... But when you have mamodo cards in play, their base power on the field does not mean they get to just withstand attacks with weaker power without doing anything. When Connor attacked with Poruk, Kanchome became a total power of 3000, and that attack was unopposed. He doesn't need to punch over Brago (or any in-play mamodo for that matter) unless the attacked player's in-play mamodo played something to defend with. If the attack goes uncontested, the attack goes straight to the book as damage... and the attacked player decides whether to turn pages of the book as damage, or to protect the book with an in-play mamodo under their control INSTEAD of turning the book's pages. The Poruk card could not be protected against because it does not inflict damage, so Carl should have just been drained of 3 MP and that was it. - That was nice of Carl to let Connor play his event card from a future page in the book, but it does break a rule unfortunately. Connor shouldn't have been allowed to do that. Especially since it was an event card with an attack icon on the opponent's turn in the middle of their attack. - To answer your question about trying to make sure someone isn't cheating by sneakily turning back the pages of their book while the opponent is distracted, you obviously can't do that from a glance. That's because players are supposed to keep track of their current page count just like their MP count and make that public knowledge to both players, but Bandai didn't bother to tell us that. Sorry you didn't enjoy the game, but the truth is... those two starter decks are abysmal. The black book deck emphasizes power plays and the red book deck emphasizes teamwork and disruption... which means the black book is easier to play than the red book and dominates the red book almost all the time because it contains the same trump cards as the red book does: Zatch Bell and Bao Zakeruga. But more than that, if you play the red book by just using Kanchome while the opponent is using the black book's main man Brago, then that game is unplayable and would be a slaughter just like it was here. If you had played the two decks with Connor using Zatch and Carl using Brago, then I promise you that you would've had a more enjoyable time. Especially if even more supporter mamodo got to enter play throughout the game. The Tabletop Simulator version contains a plethora of other characters, cards, and actually takes the interesting concept of the game and DOES things with it, unlike the official English version that only released four out of the 15 or so card sets. I guess that's all I really have to say. Let me know if you have any other questions! I'd be happy to answer them. :)

The game was a lot cooler when it had actual photos on the cards (plus the ability texts). This is getting too much into generic fantasy territory.

This brought back memories. Redakai, in my opinion, had so much potential. Such a shame it didn’t last long. I think it only lasted a few months? Maybe a year? Probably because the creators went bankrupt or something, I don’t remember the specifics. Either way I would love to see this return, or at least the concept return. I actually still have my cards from 2011. (Geez, 2011. I am OLD!)

I fail to see how this is "free", you're still paying for the metazoo lands if you can find any LGS or anyone that has them since they're worth nothing, you're paying for the sleeves too and potentially packs too if your LGS doesn't give you them if they know you're an experienced player

Honestly this came sooner than I thought, my thought process is Elestrals should collab with Palworld since its a very similar aesthetic anyway, plus its free PR for both games as well and will help get both IPs out there

If I remember correctly, there's a deck box thing for storing your deck, so that you can draw the cards, but not see what they are.

They expected you to pay like 50 bucks for a thing that covers your hand and has the resource counter on it. This game is really bad.

this is game is pretty good actually i gotta say, super simple and some actual strategy involved. i will say i think Connor misplayed when he could choose a card to discard from carl's hand, he should've chosen a character that would allow him to not replenish another character on the board. this obviously is inly a misplay if that 0 cost was actually good. GG though FR close as heck!!!
