@@TheTestTable1 maybe research the game properly and you won’t get roasted for cringe mistakes. But I had to read comments because of people liking my comment. Not hating, you guys keep doing you! 👍
Sooooo normally I wouldn't say anything, but unfortunately you guys played pretty wrong. The big mistake is you only draw at the end of your own turn. Easy mistake a lot of players make with FaB. Love you guys though its still entertaining AF ❤
As a hardcore FaB player, this was pretty painful to watch. The game is complicated, and I'm not saying you guys did anything wrong. You tried to find the rules on how to play, and nothing seemed to work. The game definitely has that Timmy feel of big numbers (especially the decks you were playing), but that means nothing if you don't play the game correctly. I do wish you could give it another chance, but understand if you don't or can't.
Thank you for watching the video, even though we were playing wrong. The problem, I think, is that the resources online and in the physical box to help you learn the game were incredibly sub-par. The official websites video was fine for breaking down a turn and the parts of a card but didn't show enough interaction, which is the entirety of the gameplay. There was also no real description of the differences between actions and resources, so in our test games we conflated the two until we realized what we were doing wrong. This definitely feels like one of those games that you need to sit down with a buddy who knows how to play and have a full day of just jamming games until you get it lol. Thanks for not taking our heads off :)
FaB is one of my favorite card games, and I'm happy to see you try it out. Quick reminder: Quicken tokens have the effect that when your attack with an attack action card or weapon, you may then discard it to get go again. So when you gained the Quicken token, you still need an action point to be able to use it with an attack action card or weapon, not the other way around. Easy mistake to make when you don't have the actual Quicken token card, as it references the rules for it on the token card.
We'll keep that in mind! Also, Connor was having a real problem differentiating between resources and action tokens. As was I at first tbh. The rules don't make it very clear, lol
As a FaB player myself, this was pretty fun to watch and I'm glad you guys finally gave it a shot, but gotta say, in the rules department, yeah it was kind of a mess. I didn't know rules for the game were hard to find (couple of friends teached me how to play) and it should be solved, like, immediately. The last thing you want for your game is people not being able to play it. So, I'd like to encourage you to look up for a few games or the video Tolarian Community College made on how to play FaB and give it another try, it's very fun once you get the hang of it. Have a nice weekend bois and hope to see you return to this game in a future video.
TLCC just acts so "holier than thou," and it's very disingenuous. I can't stand personalities like that. I used to watch him back in the day, but I don't anymore. There's another way to describe it, but I'll refrain, lol
Definitely fun to watch, even if it felt bad. As a another FaB player, the biggest thing I realized, and remembered that I did the same thing, was playing wrong and having a hard time finding rules and how to play the game. A lot of nuanced rulings, interactions, and keywords that a simple insert could easily fix for starter decks. Keep up the vids guys, and hopefully you give FaB another try in the future!
Love you guys hope you don't catch too muck flak for the mistakes in the vid. I do hope you give it another shot sometime as it IS a really interesting game with a lot of complexity. Literally though the Dori Rhinar intro decks are basically worse than the Ira free trial decks it's wild. Though I also know you guys are going through some changes so obviously play the games you feel like and want to instead of feeling obligated to use what time you've got left to play this.
So we actually did use the ira decks to practice with before we opened the starter deck. Sorry we messed it up so bad. Maybe we just need someone to sit us down and teach us how to play in the future!
I really really appreciate you both play testing FAB! Big fan of the channel and i know how much you guys got going on. There are very few unfiltered, unbiased, and unpaid for reviews for games that are just two humans playing a game for the first time and showing that experience in an entertaining way that gives a review. Appreciate the content.
a big mistake you made that completely changes the game for the worse is that you don't pitch to pay for defense cards, you only pay for defense and attack reactions.
See, we thought that if the card type was attack, and you used it for defense that you had to pay it's cost. Since the card type was still attack. Which is why us both drawing at the end of the turn made sense, since it was like reloading your hand that way you had a way to defend.
@@TheTestTable1 easy mistake. this can be a pretty obtuse game and you really need someone to sit down and teach you the rules to be able to play it properly. the idea behind only the current player drawing at the end of the turn is to make you think strategically about what to block and what to let through. if you block with all your cards on your opponent's turn, you're going to have a weaker turn because you have fewer cards in your hand. conversely, if you know you have a good play on your next turn you can decide to let all of your opponents damage go through so that you have enough cards and resources to play your big combo.
I am always happy to see people try the game out. I agree the rules can get complicated, but I personally found a lot of readily available content on youtube that helped me get the basics of the game and then I poured through the crazy rules a few times. After playing FAB I could never go back to MTG, it just doesn't compare. If you guys have locals in your area that play I would recommend having them give you the tour. It takes about 2 or 3 games, and the light should go on. After that you really start to get lost in the incredible complexity (and I don't mean that in a bad way). The one thing I will say about FAB is it is a punishing learning curve for new players. Experienced players will wipe the floor with you while you work out the nuance because skill reigns supreme. There is variance because it's a card game, but it is less significant than in any game I have played prior.
Bummer that the game didn’t click, the learning curve on it is definitely steep at the start. For future games defending is a bit of a different process. To defend with a card you don’t have to pay its resource cost. You just place the card down as defending and then declare no further blocks once you’ve decided what cards are blocking. Then you go to the reaction phase, where the attacking player can do an attack reaction, then the defending player can do a defense reaction, kind of like the stack in MTG where it go back and forth. Defense reactions you do have to pay the cost for when defending, since you’re playing the card. Rhinar is my fav hero and I love intimidate, so it was hype to see it close a game out. Hope the game gets revisited in the future, but glad to see FAB gameplay!
That makes sense. I think we got confused because in the rules it says that you can play defenses for free. So Connor and I thought that meant the card type "defense" and not just using the attacks as defenses. Because there are attacks and defenses. So chock that one up to bad wording and rule misinterpretation lol
