    Terrific video. I’m attempting this next weekend. Question: to reduce the mess, wouldn’t it be easier to pull the lower radiator hose and place a bucket under there? Is there a reason to not do it that way? As always, this video is exceptional. Thank you.

      @@stephengawlik3033 Hey Steve, the lower radiator hose is rather inflexible and can be difficult to push off the connection to the radiator. Hi there! Great video once again! You have seemingly made one for every issue I'm encountering haha! I got a question: I've got a leak on both of my axles which also covers the transaxle casings. Would that mean bad axle flange seals or bad CV joint grease? I find it a bit weird that both axle flange seals go bad at the same time, but the fluid looks like transmission fluid, so it could be.

    • @NC944er
      @NC944er 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@WhereverHugo If the grease is covering all surrounding areas of the transaxle case (sides, above, and below), that is more than likely the CV joint grease breaking down and being dispersed as the axles turn. To your point, it could be two issues, but you could address the joints first and see what improvement you get.

    • @WhereverHugo
      @WhereverHugo 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@NC944er Thanks for your answer! Sorry, I realise I could have explained better. The fluid covers only the sides of the transaxle case and a little bit on the CV joints (which on one side has slightly dispersed as the axles turn as you mention), with most of the fluid build-up where the axle flange seals are. Would that point in the direction of the axle flange seals or the CV joint grease?

    • @NC944er
      @NC944er 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@WhereverHugo Axle flange seal leaks tend to seep mostly downward. If it were me, I would just care for both. The seals are only $10 apiece and pouches of joint grease are about $6. Then you’d have peace of mind knowing it’s all done.

    Hi there! I would really like to change my fuel lines for peace of mind. They still look rather good, so they may have been replaced to ones that look original, but I just don't trust them. At 8:38 you mentioned you asked Rennbay for some extra length for the fuel line, in order for the line to be routed nearer the firewall. I would like mine to look like that also, so how did you get the extra long line? Did you send them a mail beforehand? It also looks like you have some extra protection sleeve on the line, why is that?

    • @NC944er
      @NC944er 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@WhereverHugo Yeah, you can email or call Travis and explain what you’re trying to do and he’ll let you know how to proceed. There was about a $25 up charge for the extra length. I removed the rubber cover from my OEM lines and placed it on the new line that was making contact with other engine components. The Aeroquip lines are pretty robust, but they are not very abrasion-resistant, that’s where the protective cover serves a purpose.

Based upon what you’re saying, you either had a massive full leak and the car was running out of gas or the fuel level sending unit has failed and you have a secondary issue causing the sputter. I would confirm fuel in the tank and no leak to begin with. It’s possible the two issues are unrelated. Engine sputter can be caused by a variety of things like a fuel delivery issue, failing ignition components, bad O2 sensor, faulty AFM, etc…

    Great update! If you remember me, I asked you about the valve cover gasket question in another one of your videos. I managed to get everything sorted and my 944 runs great! One question though, what is your fuel consumption? I've been consistently getting around 20 MPG combined a few months ago. However, lately, it dropped quite abit, to about 16MPG. This is after I've had my injectors cleaned and tested, new fuel filter installed, new o2 sensor, and new fuel pressure regulator installed. I guess the only items left that could affect consumption are fuel pressure dampener, and the fuel pump. My car also has trouble starting after the car has been driven (warm) and sat for about 1-3 hours. It sputters and idles really rough, but gets better when I rev and give it gas. Google/forums tell me this is likely a vapour lock issue. Have you ever had this symptom before? Thank you.

    • @NC944er
      @NC944er 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      With the MAF on my car, it runs richer than the factory AFM, so probably not a good comparison. There are a number of things that can reduce fuel economy. You may also want to confirm the O2 sensor wiring is fully connected and not damaged, that the air filter is clean, and that the spark plugs are firing consistently. If one of the plugs is wetter than the others, you may have a leaky fuel injector. Sometimes they have issues even after coming back from a cleaning. I would also test the ignition coil, the spark plug leads, and check the distributor cap and rotor for wear.

      @@EBMproductions1 Yeah, there’s a fuel tank strainer (a plastic screen type of filter), the fuel pump motor, followed by a traditional fuel filter all at the back of the car. The fuel pumps can start to whine when they are partially clogged or beginning to fail. Fuel filters can get clogged as well and reduce fuel pressure, but they don’t typically make noise. @ To be fair, I took mine quite a bit farther than I needed to, by proactively replacing really anything that could fail down the road, but didn’t necessarily require attention at the time. You could pick up a nice example for $10k-$14k and then budget about $5k for incidental maintenance and have a pretty reliable car.

    Hey there! i recently got a hold of a 1986 944 turbo and have used your videos for many repair priorities. in your experience, what parts did you need to get right away when first working on the car? mine has been sitting for 20 years, i think thats longer than yours so i may have extra things to worry about, but this winter is going to be my 944 winter, so a heads up on anything would be nice

    • @NC944er
      @NC944er หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@crispitybits2074 Yeah, that’s a long time to sit and oil seals don’t like that. Mine sat for 8 years and although it had higher miles, so it was used more consistently throughout its life, all the oil seals failed one by one as I began driving the car. My first priority would be replacing the timing and balance shaft belts, then a full reseal on the front of the engine along with the oil cooler seals, followed by a fuel system refresh (drain and clean the tank, replace the strainer, and have the injectors professionally cleaned). Then you can fire it up and see what else it needs.

      @edvinkennas4951 Assuming that the latch isn’t locked with the key and the knob turns with no result, this is a known issues where the screw at the back of the lock mechaism becomes loose and the latch actuator disengages. Most people are able to wiggle/pry the door open by removing the three screws along the bottom and pulling back on the latch area. Pieces of the latch and/or receiver may come apart during this process, but can usually be reassembled once you’re inside.
