Hello, This Video was uploaded 3 years ago, are you still happy with the Parts you installed? I‘d have to ship it to Germany so I‘d Like a Little more Input before i Order.

Terrific video. I’m attempting this next weekend. Question: to reduce the mess, wouldn’t it be easier to pull the lower radiator hose and place a bucket under there? Is there a reason to not do it that way? As always, this video is exceptional. Thank you.
@@stephengawlik3033 Hey Steve, the lower radiator hose is rather inflexible and can be difficult to push off the connection to the radiator. You’re welcome to try it that way if you’d like, won’t hurt anything. If you want to get really fancy, check out the radiator drain kit from Lindsey Racing, it replaces the drain plug with a valve and hose connection for $32 - www.lindseyracing.com/LR/Parts/944RADDRAIN.html
Hi there! Great video once again! You have seemingly made one for every issue I'm encountering haha! I got a question: I've got a leak on both of my axles which also covers the transaxle casings. Would that mean bad axle flange seals or bad CV joint grease? I find it a bit weird that both axle flange seals go bad at the same time, but the fluid looks like transmission fluid, so it could be.
@@WhereverHugo If the grease is covering all surrounding areas of the transaxle case (sides, above, and below), that is more than likely the CV joint grease breaking down and being dispersed as the axles turn. To your point, it could be two issues, but you could address the joints first and see what improvement you get.
@@NC944er Thanks for your answer! Sorry, I realise I could have explained better. The fluid covers only the sides of the transaxle case and a little bit on the CV joints (which on one side has slightly dispersed as the axles turn as you mention), with most of the fluid build-up where the axle flange seals are. Would that point in the direction of the axle flange seals or the CV joint grease?
@@WhereverHugo Axle flange seal leaks tend to seep mostly downward. If it were me, I would just care for both. The seals are only $10 apiece and pouches of joint grease are about $6. Then you’d have peace of mind knowing it’s all done.
@@NC944er Alright, thanks for the information! You're right, might as well do both jobs while I'm there. Thanks for all you do for the community!

great vid thanks! Just bought a Powerlite which seems similar to your hi-torque........
What a beauty I always wanted a 944 Turbo
Dame, I will get one. I saw something so beautiful. Thanks, big dawg!
Firstly thanks for the outstanding videos. I see no reference is made of a cabin thermostat in the Porsche literature you displayed at the end, so how does the system know how to achieve the temperature that you set it to?
@@Nodstar73 There are three HVAC temperature sensors in later cars like this one, two in the cabin and one in the engine compartment. The temperature control unit compares signals from the three sensors to determine positioning of the temperature-mixing flap within the HVAC unit to automatically control cabin air temperature.
@ Thanks and that is more sophisticated than I thought for. Mine is a 89 2.7 (non AC) and is not able to regulate its cabin temperature, cold is fine but if you move it to 20 degrees it feels like it is on full heat and never drops back, unless you switch it to full cold. I think I will start with checking the temperature control unit which I see is near the blower motor, unless you have any other suggestions? Cheers Marc
I have that same dent in my upper front fender!
@@smacdiesel Must be a recurring factory defect. 😂
Thank you!
Hi there! I would really like to change my fuel lines for peace of mind. They still look rather good, so they may have been replaced to ones that look original, but I just don't trust them. At 8:38 you mentioned you asked Rennbay for some extra length for the fuel line, in order for the line to be routed nearer the firewall. I would like mine to look like that also, so how did you get the extra long line? Did you send them a mail beforehand? It also looks like you have some extra protection sleeve on the line, why is that?
@@WhereverHugo Yeah, you can email or call Travis and explain what you’re trying to do and he’ll let you know how to proceed. There was about a $25 up charge for the extra length. I removed the rubber cover from my OEM lines and placed it on the new line that was making contact with other engine components. The Aeroquip lines are pretty robust, but they are not very abrasion-resistant, that’s where the protective cover serves a purpose.
@@NC944er Thank you for your answer and information! Good idea to reuse the rubber cover from the OEM lines, I'll do the same. Awesome, I'll send him an email.
U will always get your money back #PorscheNoSubstitute944

Well done! Great video of the improvements or modifications.
Great that I came across this video, I am changing my alternator and I was wondering if this one fit on my 1985/2 Porsche? Because there are two options on pelican parts…the Bosch Al-170-x or AL-29-x 90amp so that I don’t buy the wrong part again lol
@@julianbalseca5513 Yeah, the AL-29-X applies to cars 1982-1985/1 and the AL-170-X for cars 1985/2-1991, which got a boost from 90amp to 115amp.
@ thank you for your help and I am doing couple of upgrades on my 944 so I will probably have more questions on other videos, thanks again for this 🤙🏼
Hey, i got a question for ya! I just got an S2 and i was riding her back home when the engine was starting to sputter, the engine was trying to die on me but i gave her some power. Fuel was 3/4ths full before and was showing empty after a 20 minute drive. What do you think it could be? Thought i would ask the expert!
@@momohanakai2430 Wow! Based upon what you’re saying, you either had a massive full leak and the car was running out of gas or the fuel level sending unit has failed and you have a secondary issue causing the sputter. I would confirm fuel in the tank and no leak to begin with. It’s possible the two issues are unrelated. Engine sputter can be caused by a variety of things like a fuel delivery issue, failing ignition components, bad O2 sensor, faulty AFM, etc…
@ i was thinking it could have been a clogged fuel filter because the car was sitting for a year ish before i got her just 2 weeks ago.
@@momohanakai2430 Injectors are most likely to clog in those situations, old fuel filters can limit flow as well, and the pumps can get jammed up with deposits if the tank strainer fails. If you don’t have any history on it, I’d look at a fuel system refurbishment all around.
Not supposed to jack from the transaxle. The mount isn’t made to handle the weight of the car
@@VelcroCross The mount has a metal core that bottoms out on the underside of the transmission carrier after the rubber compresses about 2mm, so it’s essentially solid on solid. I’ve done it a dozen times with no damage sustained, but you’re welcome to avoid if it gives you cause for concern. Like many things in the 944 world, an ongoing debate. 😂
@ manual says not to so I’ll listen lol
Any idea why it feels like when i close my hatch it is like slightly crooked and when it goes into the locks it like nudges it
And @NC44er I love the videos they help me find what’s wrong with mine lol
@@spencer2.032 Hey! Hard to say without seeing it firsthand. I would ensure all the parts are fully connected, properly aligned, and moving correctly. There are also small rubber “seats” that sit in the pin receivers, which can break down and become dislodged, so check that everything is clear to receive the pins when closing the hatch.
great video and great 'mods' And can I say - how clean your engine bay is!!
Hey Nc944er, when talking about the brake pad light you mentioned the two yellow connectors on either side of the engine bay. What are those called, or do you have a part number? They are both crumbled to dust on my ‘88 na and I cant find anything about them
@@AidanSlater-r1k Those are the brake pad sensor wiring harnesses, they come in different versions for cars with and without ABS. For cars without ABS (assuming that’s your setup), check out part numbers: 94461210700 and 94461210800 - they run about $200 for each side, link below… 944online.com/brake-pad-sensor-wiring-harness-for-cars-with-no-abs-85-2-to-91/
@ Thank you. I just got my 944 a few weeks ago and your videos help me through some of my cars issues. I love what you do man, keep it up!
We're not too far off, I'm at $37k total including purchase price and I'm entering year 5 with it. Yours is much, much better than mine though.
@@afeudale It takes quite a bit to keep them going, and I think a lot of new owners (and potential owners) don’t fully realize that, so I think sharing the costs helps level expectations. Parts costs have been slowly ticking up each year as well, which doesn’t help. 😬
Thank you for being on youtube
Ineffable! Lord have mercy!
Great update! If you remember me, I asked you about the valve cover gasket question in another one of your videos. I managed to get everything sorted and my 944 runs great! One question though, what is your fuel consumption? I've been consistently getting around 20 MPG combined a few months ago. However, lately, it dropped quite abit, to about 16MPG. This is after I've had my injectors cleaned and tested, new fuel filter installed, new o2 sensor, and new fuel pressure regulator installed. I guess the only items left that could affect consumption are fuel pressure dampener, and the fuel pump. My car also has trouble starting after the car has been driven (warm) and sat for about 1-3 hours. It sputters and idles really rough, but gets better when I rev and give it gas. Google/forums tell me this is likely a vapour lock issue. Have you ever had this symptom before? Thank you.
With the MAF on my car, it runs richer than the factory AFM, so probably not a good comparison. There are a number of things that can reduce fuel economy. You may also want to confirm the O2 sensor wiring is fully connected and not damaged, that the air filter is clean, and that the spark plugs are firing consistently. If one of the plugs is wetter than the others, you may have a leaky fuel injector. Sometimes they have issues even after coming back from a cleaning. I would also test the ignition coil, the spark plug leads, and check the distributor cap and rotor for wear.
youll never get your time back, a labor of love for sure, but if you ever decided to sell; youd get your money back. a clean one like this...easily $15k.
*Is that a fuel filter at the back? Our OEM one just started making a wheezing cicada like sound a week ago should i be worried?*
@@EBMproductions1 Yeah, there’s a fuel tank strainer (a plastic screen type of filter), the fuel pump motor, followed by a traditional fuel filter all at the back of the car. The fuel pumps can start to whine when they are partially clogged or beginning to fail. Fuel filters can get clogged as well and reduce fuel pressure, but they don’t typically make noise. You can check to see if the ring clamp is secure and that the mounting bracket is intact. It’s possible the filter is vibrating against the mount if not fully secured.
@NC944er see the spot where it's connected seems loose and since im no mechanic i did not want to push it down to make sure its connected correctly however i do wonder why it seems the harness or whatever it is, is loose as the car was sent into porsche directly for all kinds of work and this is not what i expected post porsche working on the car. Also the coolant leak i had was the coolant line ending up in the radiator fans somehow so yeah that was frustrating as well. 😅
Amazing work! Really detailed!
35k for a 5k car…. 😭
@@hadrianaugustus5712 A true case study in poor financial decision making, however… the relationships I’ve made in the process and the empowerment of others to pursue their own enthusiast journeys are worth their weight in gold.
More so a classic car then 5k mate.
@@NC944erI appreciate your channel a lot, I want one of these. I’m not sure I can stomach a real cost of 35k though.
@ To be fair, I took mine quite a bit farther than I needed to, by proactively replacing really anything that could fail down the road, but didn’t necessarily require attention at the time. You could pick up a nice example for $10k-$14k and then budget about $5k for incidental maintenance and have a pretty reliable car.
Rear drain tube usually gets removed from Porsches by technicians because they’re the highest cause of water leaks when they get clogged.

@@lto9773 That’s great to hear! The 1987 is a nice year to have, plenty of updates and fewer electrical gremlins than the earlier cars.
Hey there! i recently got a hold of a 1986 944 turbo and have used your videos for many repair priorities. in your experience, what parts did you need to get right away when first working on the car? mine has been sitting for 20 years, i think thats longer than yours so i may have extra things to worry about, but this winter is going to be my 944 winter, so a heads up on anything would be nice
@@crispitybits2074 Yeah, that’s a long time to sit and oil seals don’t like that. Mine sat for 8 years and although it had higher miles, so it was used more consistently throughout its life, all the oil seals failed one by one as I began driving the car. My first priority would be replacing the timing and balance shaft belts, then a full reseal on the front of the engine along with the oil cooler seals, followed by a fuel system refresh (drain and clean the tank, replace the strainer, and have the injectors professionally cleaned). Then you can fire it up and see what else it needs.

@@NC944er Haha I love it! I actually got the 944 cause it was the closest I could afford to an FC. Handling on the 8 is similar to the 944, just more responsive and refined. I'm not too far from NC so if I'm out your way I'd be happy to let you take the 8 for a spin
@@liamflynn6929 Sweet, that would be fun. I’m in the Greensboro area. Anyway, glad you’ve got a new project to pour your time and money into. 😁
I owned a 1988 Silver Rose 944 Turbo S. Without a doubt, of all the cars I have owned, it was the most fun to drive. In addition, the car was incredibly fast. The handling was without equal at the time.
@@WW-bf8sz Nice car! I love the fabric interior pattern on those examples. I seem to recall they were faster than the standard 911 at the time.
mechanical cost, so leet!
@@ericmosher6969 Ha! I didn’t notice that until you called it out. I must be a n00b.
I think if you saw my 944 you would never talk to me again lolol
@@jacobabbott9962 😂 Most 944 examples could benefit from some TLC these days. When I bought mine, it was missing over 30 parts from the engine bay, multiple pieces weren’t fully bolted down, some bolts were less than hand-tight, there were numerous fluid leaks, and oxidation on the majority of the hardware. Bringing back their former glory is all part of the fun.
@NC944er I love the work! Someday I will make mine nicer by following your example hahah
Same here
Thank you from Norway❤
@@bjrngunnarrkeness9540 Cheers! You guys have a lot of 944s in Norway or are they pretty rare to see?
My hatch doesnt work, cant open the glove box at all. Do anyone have any tips? I removed the trim about to see better, but i cant figure it out.
@edvinkennas4951 Assuming that the latch isn’t locked with the key and the knob turns with no result, this is a known issues where the screw at the back of the lock mechaism becomes loose and the latch actuator disengages. Most people are able to wiggle/pry the door open by removing the three screws along the bottom and pulling back on the latch area. Pieces of the latch and/or receiver may come apart during this process, but can usually be reassembled once you’re inside.
you always give a Clear explanation ! thank you
