@NC944er think it was fair for what it was haha. Got an RX-8 now which has its own issues, but has been great for the most part. One things for sure, watching this video didn't make me miss the Porsche parts prices
@@liamflynn6929 Nice! I had an FC RX-7 back in the day. Always wanted to spend some time with an RX-8 at some point. There’s nothing like a rotary sound and revving twice the limit of a 944. 🤪
@@NC944er Haha I love it! I actually got the 944 cause it was the closest I could afford to an FC. Handling on the 8 is similar to the 944, just more responsive and refined. I'm not too far from NC so if I'm out your way I'd be happy to let you take the 8 for a spin
I owned a 1988 Silver Rose 944 Turbo S. Without a doubt, of all the cars I have owned, it was the most fun to drive. In addition, the car was incredibly fast. The handling was without equal at the time.
Great update! If you remember me, I asked you about the valve cover gasket question in another one of your videos. I managed to get everything sorted and my 944 runs great! One question though, what is your fuel consumption? I've been consistently getting around 20 MPG combined a few months ago. However, lately, it dropped quite abit, to about 16MPG. This is after I've had my injectors cleaned and tested, new fuel filter installed, new o2 sensor, and new fuel pressure regulator installed. I guess the only items left that could affect consumption are fuel pressure dampener, and the fuel pump. My car also has trouble starting after the car has been driven (warm) and sat for about 1-3 hours. It sputters and idles really rough, but gets better when I rev and give it gas. Google/forums tell me this is likely a vapour lock issue. Have you ever had this symptom before? Thank you.
With the MAF on my car, it runs richer than the factory AFM, so probably not a good comparison. There are a number of things that can reduce fuel economy. You may also want to confirm the O2 sensor wiring is fully connected and not damaged, that the air filter is clean, and that the spark plugs are firing consistently. If one of the plugs is wetter than the others, you may have a leaky fuel injector. Sometimes they have issues even after coming back from a cleaning. I would also test the ignition coil, the spark plug leads, and check the distributor cap and rotor for wear.
@@afeudale It takes quite a bit to keep them going, and I think a lot of new owners (and potential owners) don’t fully realize that, so I think sharing the costs helps level expectations. Parts costs have been slowly ticking up each year as well, which doesn’t help. 😬

Hey there! i recently got a hold of a 1986 944 turbo and have used your videos for many repair priorities. in your experience, what parts did you need to get right away when first working on the car? mine has been sitting for 20 years, i think thats longer than yours so i may have extra things to worry about, but this winter is going to be my 944 winter, so a heads up on anything would be nice
@@crispitybits2074 Yeah, that’s a long time to sit and oil seals don’t like that. Mine sat for 8 years and although it had higher miles, so it was used more consistently throughout its life, all the oil seals failed one by one as I began driving the car. My first priority would be replacing the timing and balance shaft belts, then a full reseal on the front of the engine along with the oil cooler seals, followed by a fuel system refresh (drain and clean the tank, replace the strainer, and have the injectors professionally cleaned). Then you can fire it up and see what else it needs.
@@EBMproductions1 Yeah, there’s a fuel tank strainer (a plastic screen type of filter), the fuel pump motor, followed by a traditional fuel filter all at the back of the car. The fuel pumps can start to whine when they are partially clogged or beginning to fail. Fuel filters can get clogged as well and reduce fuel pressure, but they don’t typically make noise. You can check to see if the ring clamp is secure and that the mounting bracket is intact. It’s possible the filter is vibrating against the mount if not fully secured.
@NC944er see the spot where it's connected seems loose and since im no mechanic i did not want to push it down to make sure its connected correctly however i do wonder why it seems the harness or whatever it is, is loose as the car was sent into porsche directly for all kinds of work and this is not what i expected post porsche working on the car. Also the coolant leak i had was the coolant line ending up in the radiator fans somehow so yeah that was frustrating as well. 😅
Hey, i got a question for ya! I just got an S2 and i was riding her back home when the engine was starting to sputter, the engine was trying to die on me but i gave her some power. Fuel was 3/4ths full before and was showing empty after a 20 minute drive. What do you think it could be? Thought i would ask the expert!
@@momohanakai2430 Wow! Based upon what you’re saying, you either had a massive full leak and the car was running out of gas or the fuel level sending unit has failed and you have a secondary issue causing the sputter. I would confirm fuel in the tank and no leak to begin with. It’s possible the two issues are unrelated. Engine sputter can be caused by a variety of things like a fuel delivery issue, failing ignition components, bad O2 sensor, faulty AFM, etc…
@@momohanakai2430 Injectors are most likely to clog in those situations, old fuel filters can limit flow as well, and the pumps can get jammed up with deposits if the tank strainer fails. If you don’t have any history on it, I’d look at a fuel system refurbishment all around.
