Your car is so insanely clean. I’m so jealous.

Thanks! Refreshing the yellow zinc plating on all the steel parts makes a huge difference. That, and adding in all new fluid reservoirs… and cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. I’ve probably taken it too far at this point. 😂

You are just amazing. Thank you. My 944 won't switch between hi & low beams but this video helps me understand the circuit a little better.

I learned the hi & low beam switching was my own dumb oversight, but now that it's working I noticed the driver's side high beam isn't working. Thanks to your video I checked the wire instead of just buying a new bulb--it's the wire!

Thank you so much for this video. I had exactly the same issue and could not find the fault, but thanks to your video I did.

Great videos you make. Bought last autumn an 88' 924 S Le Mans (M755 code) "barn find", which has a lot of technical similarities with the 944 II. Have used your videos to solve drive belts, slave/clutch pump, cooling problems (ventilation/thermo). Now have some unstable lights, should have the condition of the wiring checked, as shown here. Thanks for the neat and clear video/speech.

Thanks, it’s still holding up well so far… Although I’m not quite sure how many more actuations of the headlights it bought me before the wiring fails at another point in the harness. 😂

@@NC944er If it fails again you’ll know how to repair it. Or, you can get all new wiring and install that.

I upgraded to H4 and then to LEDs on my old 944. Only944 has a really nice set of LEDs and you don't need to upgrade the wiring. That being said, if you want my old Hella harness with relays, I'd be happy to donate it to the cause.

Thanks David, that’s very generous of you, I appreciate it! I’ll let you know how this repair holds up for a bit. 👍🏼

Top quality work as usual. I haven't gone through my wiring yet, but I did change the headlight bulbs to LEDs and that makes a huge difference. The LEDs draw far less current so you really don't need to perform the wiring upgrade with relays to get more current to the bulbs. But as you point out, the flexing does put wear on the wiring so replacement may be necessary anyway.

Nice! Yeah, I bet the LEDs make a big difference. Since the deer incident, I don’t have the 944 out on the roads much after dusk, with the freaking things always jumping out of nowhere we live. But, the LEDs are another route to consider for sure. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Another great video. I have a problem with the running lights both front and rear on the passenger side not illuminating - so I will be playing this game myself soon!
    Keep up the good work!

Yeah man, the side markers take on a lot of water and the o-rings fail to keep moisture out. Mine on the driver’s side where lighting intermittently after replacing the bulbs. It turned out to be oxidation inside the metal cups that hold the bulbs in place. After cleaning those contacts out with a wire brush and some sand paper, there were illuminating again.

Hey man! Your really knowledgeable when it comes to 944s so I wanted to comment some of the problems I’ve been facing with my 944. When I was going through a drive through my car randomly stopped working like it cut out slowly, before my car would cut out if I floored it so I replaced the fuel pump and the fuse along with it. It didn’t solve the problem, my car still doesn’t start. The tach bounces though. Let me know what you think my next move should be.

    • @NC944er

Hey man! A ‘no start’ condition could be caused by any number of items, but based upon the systems you described leading up to the failure, it’s sounds like a fuel supply issue or lack of spark, but stalling/hesitation on acceleration could also be a faulty AFM or a vacuum leak. If it were me, I would test the sensors - AFM, speed, reference - bypass the fuel pump DME relay to rule that out - and then attack the fuel and ignition systems. Even though the pump is running, a clogged fuel strainer, fuel filter, or injectors could inhibit fuel delivery to the combustion chambers. If you’ve got adequate pressure at the fuel rail and the injectors are firing, it’s easy to check/replace the spark plugs, ignition rotor, and distributor cap. The ignition circuit on the DME computer can fail as well, not sure if you have a spare DME to swap in and test, but that list is something to work through. Here are a few links that may help…

@@NC944er you would be extremely happy with the headlights that I upgraded to, the morimoto retrobright in one of my videos. Much brighter, better pattern, less power draw and wide voltage input range.
