It was bit of a slow session, but we got a couple 👍

We wanted to try a late session, till dark, there and at Danery before close, but things didn’t go plan. So we just had another session at each Friday and Sunday. Good venues, banks and bit beat up after floods. Roll on new season 🎣🎣🎣

@@BlackCountryPiker I couldn’t see it, in the peg to the left. The entrance to that peg is getting a bit vertical, was a nice pike in it last year.

It my fault i gave them all a free feed courtesy of Bailey's tackle shop. I lost a few dead baits trotting the river. I had my setup just skipping across the bottom and lost a few deads to snags, not a technique i normally use...

Forgot to mention, some nice bream in this peg, but it a very deep section. Barbel come out the peg to the left sometimes, well worth a fish.

I've not seen many carp in Billinghams for a few years, though I pretty certain they are some still around from the horsefields, blackbrook to Purlin Wharf. I've only ever had carp out the horsefields side of Blackbrook and we are talking 20 years ago... Carp is not something I really target on the canal.

@@BostinAngling I had to get some garden supplies last summer and there were three upper doubles basking there. There’s also a pod of common and mirror carp by Withymoor island.

@@BlackCountryPiker Yea, i think that withymoor island is a key location. I think since Billinghams been took over, I don't think the new owners feed the fish in the basin. i could be wrong, but they may have disperse a little in the last 8 years or so. I know cattle bridge used to be a good location to see the carp. The last place i actually saw a carp in the Netherton section, apart from the injury one me and Nath netted on Northfield Road, is Bumblehole Arm back of Pyms. I reckon it was around 4 or 5lb about 2 years ago

Yea, I was really struggling in that peg. It was a bit silly of me fishing it, more lack of room than anything else. Thankfully nothing to injury the fish on down the bank. Hopefully I'll learn the lesson. The cat, or take, yea it certain threw me a little... I think i would have been in trouble with that fish. if it had started fighting 😆

@@BostinAngling it happens mate, we’ve all had it. I had a 16lb pike tail slap me, Bob it’s head just out the net and with one lunge away she went 🤦‍♂️ I’ve accidentally hooked a catfish at Poole hall alverley. As I’d never fished for them I knew straight away what it was. I had no control of it what do ever. Thankfully it pinged off

@@BlackCountryPiker They have them at Kings Nordley, last time I fished there was 20 years ago with my dad, before the owners got divorced. I walked around it a couple years back, I felt a little sorry for the place too be honest. I haven't fished it, but my dads been a couple times recently only for the Carp.

@@BostinAngling very soon I think, this week or next maybe? The rivers will be off for a little while with storm Dudley on the way and rivers already well up. I’ll be pike rods down soon. Have to try this perch malarkey 😂

It is and was an absolute beast. Sadly not a PB, the river one is heavier. I forgot to covert sling last week to Nath’s scales, last week was 16lb 6oz, sling wet being 2oz or 8% of lb. 😬

Yea, I was going to PM you, that small one might have followed lure in from the far bank on a previous cast. My glasses did me no favors in the rain and poor light, but i thought I saw a shadow follow it. The bigger one hit fly right away like a steam train, but didn't hook up, I had cast couple more times to get it. Strange how you move through those sections they double in size every time though...

Yea we came into some nice weather last few days, sent the canal the strange colour, boat traffic increased too. Just going overcast again, might be due bit of rain on way

These canals are our old transport links, narrowboats moved cargo pre railways. We have lots of them around my area, dug to move the coal, limestone, clay and lots of other things around the country. Locally we "had" ironworks, glass and bottle work, firebrick manufactures and potteries. I'm sure I've missed a whole bunch of things, but i know you get the idea. We might go to a pond or a lake next week, if the weather improves
