Something different for a Friday, fish a commercial before all the weekend bait goes in. Special guest appearance from my dad, not all fish was photographed, but we had around 25 between 3 of us.
Approaches again are very different. I normally fish 1 rod out and 1 rod in the side. My dad fishes very similar and Melv normally fishes two rods out with different methods.
I struggled on the near rod earlier on with lots of line knocks and spooked fish, fishing meat over corn and chickpea (Please read up on using chickpeas, they have to be prepared). I reckon if I'd have used my float method, rather then a running rig, I'd have snagged a couple earlier. The rod in the side was the first rod to actually go though, but Melv had already taken 3 from far out at this point. I did take a few from further out once I'd switch from manila boilie to a white pop up. Certain colour and flavoured boilies seemed to be a bit hit and miss at this location. Meat in the side fell away after dinner quick hook length change and boilies seemed to take over down the side. Melv lost a fair few from far out early on and it did go quiet in the afternoon, due to water temps coming up. He took a sneaky double common (14lb ish) out the side later on, before I took the biggest fish of the day just off the edge of weeds at around 16lb and half. Melv had baited the side earlier and I'd noticed that the fish was moving around the weeds rather than entering them at this point, so setup slightly further out. My dad had a selection of fish ranging from 4lb up to 15lb, Melv's selection ranged from 4 to 14lb and mine ranged from 10 to 16 and half with 3 fish being over 15lb.
All fish was well rested before unhooking and in some cases rested again before release. One fish caught had someone's pole rig stuck in it with a hook that had clearly violated the rules of the fishery, this was removed and discarded correctly.
Fantastic day out and we will try get another session in before the weekend is over.
