Your shorts are some of the most useful on TH-cam, subscribed!
Glad you like them! Thank you so much!
Which is butter
Both are different. Did you watch the video?
Or go to dxomark...lol what a waste of time.
bro this is the best thing i learnt all week and the fact that you are unknown makes me angry😭 keep it up dude youll go far!
Thank you so much! Glad it was helpful.
Boring blue skies?! 😂
Yes!!
@@AustinJamesJackson I was laughing, because I do not like taking pictures, when it is cloudy & love the contrast one has with a blue sky 😂 But I of course get your point.
I would start with the tone curve, but adjust the black point and the white point. In the video, it seems as if at the left end of the diagram's X axis there are no pixels with that low X value. So sliding the black point horizontally right means you define a very dark grey as black. At the other end the same applies to white. By narrowing the raw value range you pull the entire image open and this looks like more contrast superficially. It also opens up gradation. Works only if the dynamic range in the subject is smaller than the camera's contrast envelope (dynamic range in one shot).
Thanks for sharing this info!
Floating panel needs to be docked on right hand panel empty space.
👍
Expose to the right
Yes!!
Awesome 👏 What software or plugin would you recommend to denoise astro landscape photos?
Topaz Photo AI! I actually just posted a review of it this morning: th-cam.com/video/ViVZ-890HVo/w-d-xo.html
@@AustinJamesJackson Dude. Perfect timing for me. Keep up the awesome videos you’re killing it!
Dude. For a long time I had this problem. Thank you so much for disclosing it !!🎉
Happy to help!
Drats... good to know. Perhaps its worth doing both for prints and for social media. I have wondered this and why they compress the hell out of images. The "upload high res pictures" setting and using TIFFs seems to aid in the latter.
For prints you want to use Adobe RGB!
Thanks for a great overview. I will upgrade.
Good choice!
i dont think canon has it
Hmmm
don't just under expose. bracket
You can do that too if you’re willing to spend a little extra time!
Does these cameras have auto mode like mobiles?
Yes!
Cactuses were still distracting on both. I'd chop em down to get the perfect composition 😂
Perfect! 😂
Just use panorama/photomerge
That won’t do what this video is showing.
Waiting for AI cameras
😂
I really dig your straight to the point videos and shorts.
Thanks a ton!! I get a lot of hate in the comments but it truly means a lot when people comment that they are helpful!
I don’t bother with underexposing THAT much. Just a little so I can bring back the sky a bit. Raw already keeps a ton of highlight detail so I’d rather get cleaner shadows.
👍
works great on faces too
👍
Always the smaller youtubers provide the more helping content. Thanks!
Happy to help!
Why
Did you watch?
You can always cut down the cactus
😂
Everytime I try to bring back the shadows in lightroom I just get noise in that area 😢
What kind of camera do you have!
@@AustinJamesJackson Canon R8-however I am a lightroom noob so maybe l'm doing something wrong?1 always found it easier to bring down the whites
On my Nikon Z6 i set the metering to highlight priority and then -0.5ev when out and about in sunny weather. Clouds it still works but maybe +0.5ev
That sounds great!
The opposite is true for color negative film interestingly
Interesting!
Get an A7R IV. Megapixels do matter
That’s what I have!
It's more like "expose for the sky"
Expose for the highest values. Or blend exposures.
If the sky is in the photo, yes!
Do you usually bracket your photos and then hdr merge or just use a single exposure?
I use a single exposure because my Sony a7r4 has fantastic dynamic range. But on a camera with less dynamic range I’d probably bracket!
Perfectly explained! Thanks!
You're welcome!
Great tip! Love your videos!
Thanks! Glad you’re enjoying!
Good advice,greetings from japan….
Thanks for watching!
One of the downsides of digital, but hey, it’s still fun
👍
He should say the name of the lens in the short, but at least he gave buttload of info in the description.
👍
Part of the reason for only saying the name in the description is so it doesn’t come off like an ad. It’s not sponsored or promoted so I didn’t need to include the name of the product in the video, just in the description.
I have found that for the price the Viltrox 16mm 1.8 is a really good lens for doing northern light photography here in Alaska
I’ll have to check it out!
You should only use manual focus when you are using a manual camera. And once you get used to using a manual camera, you should use it whenever you like. If you use an AF camera, by all means, use it, just make sure it is focusing on your subject and not the largest item in your frame. But now that my eyes are not as good as they once were, AF is a blessing ... if I can get a digital camera that will let me shoot manual.
Thanks for sharing!
great video mate. Super informative!
Glad you liked it!
Why make a video about a lens and not even say what the lens is? Thumbs down no sub.
Why bother commenting when you can’t even read the description?
@@AustinJamesJackson The description says “Best lens for Astrophotography”. Is that the brand of the lens? “Best lens”? Never heard of them.
@@AustinJamesJacksonit not in the description
@@chiwawa130 I was about to join your sentiment that the info should be in the description, but then I checked the description and it was RIGHT THERE...
So better than the Sony 14mm f1.8 GM or the Sigma 14mm f1.4 DG DN Art? I think not. It may be good for the price but i would not say it’s the best lense for astrophotography.
I said that it’s the best lens all things considered. Both the Sony and Sigma run around $1600, which is 3-4x more. Of course there are better options if you’re willing to spend more money.
For the money it’s a great starter lens. No doubt. Unfortunately, focus is hit/miss. I’ve had 2. One was super sharp, the latter not so much
The Rokinon 12mm f/2 was my first astro lens. It was a OK as an inexpensive "starter" lens. After a year I upgraded to the Viltrox 13mm f/1.4, which is only slightly more expensive, and is faster and has better IQ.
I’ll have to check that out!
What's the lense called
Rokinon 14mm f2.8! It’s in the description!
@@AustinJamesJackson No it’s not.
You definitly need a tripod for this.
You can do without it but it will make things easier.
Does cs6 have auto aline?
I’m not sure, you’d have to check.
Use f18 forget this ,ahh some photographers believe you cant go over f11 ,
Then you’ll have an image that isn’t sharp anywhere 😂
Thanks Austin, I wish adobe would improve the tone curve tool in Lightroom and camera raw.
It works exactly the same in Lightroom or Camera RAW!
Super helpful :)
I'm so glad!
Yup - I miss the warping tool! The keystone tool can do it a bit - but not much control over it.
Agreed!
