Tourism is a scam! Part 2. Slave wages.
The award winning minister of tourism claims that Jamaica retains 40% of earnings, and he considers this to be a huge portion. However, using his numbers, the average worker appears to earn well under US$4k per annum. It is worth noting that in June, the minimum wage will be US$5k. It is no surprise that the GDP per capita is a paltry U$6k.
There needs to be immediate investigations into numerous policies - tourism, fiscal, energy and mining - because Jamaica is being exploited to the maximum.

JAMAICAN FISCAL MANAGEMENT FIASCO Pt 4! Making investors rich more important than delivering water!
มุมมอง 674 หลายเดือนก่อน
The minister in charge of water said the cost of energy is a main reason for the poor distribution of the commodity. Well, this can be solved by investment in renewable energy, and the government has the money. The Mof received US$255m from the IMF's Resilience and Sustainability Facility, which is for green investment. Another option is to access the US$5.1b in the BoJ. Which is better: using ...

    What is the point of building an airport which accommodates only small-sized planes from only one part of one country? Which means they're not making back the money they spent to build and upgrade the airport. Who are the organisers and planners? Waste of money. Just to say there is a third airport in Ochi Rios. This proves that Jamaica does not need another airport. Even when Canada starts flights there they're still losing. Jamaica won't make back the money neither the airport cannot self sustained itself. Jamaica do not need anymore airport. Two are enough.

    It simply means they had not done a proper research to facilitate the bigger airlines...therfore one can say this was formulated by the business men and the prime minister approved then sign the planning application, applying tax payers money for funding. It belongs to Jamaica, not like the other 2 airports leased out for 25 more years to Canada....is Canadian money involved? We are a resilient people and we shall overcome this temporary disappointment. Airports develop its surroundings. Let us all be patience and find solutions ❤

    The airport is ideally located to be a good arrival point for visitors to Jamaica. The sad thing is that no one seemed to understand or if they did they hid the reality of what length of runway was needed to facilitate landing flights there. They also never studied the fleet makeup of most carriers now serving Jamaica, especially the budget carriers. One is right to ask if they were stupid or wanted to fool Jamaicans into using taxpayer money unwisely. Currently, the AA small Embraer 175 jet is the only commercial jet able to land on the short runway. Of note too, its short range limits it to one east coast USA city, Miami. Also, an aircraft the majority of carriers like Jet Blue, Spirit, Swoop, and South West do not have in their fleet. Ian Fleming International will remain a waste of taxpayer money until they figure out a way to extend the runway to almost double its size than what is there currently. A logistic feat that will be extremely expensive if you know anything about the land space available there before it goes into the sea. It may seem political but the government has really hoodwinked the people on this project or worse fooled themselves.

    • @karlossargeant3872
      @karlossargeant3872 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Delta Airlines and United Airlines like AA have Embraer E175's in their fleet too. They they can operate them from Atlanta and Houston, but we'll wait and see what happens next for Ian Fleming International Airport in Jamaica!!!!

    • @GaryTallawahWoode
      @GaryTallawahWoode หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@karlossargeant3872 a longer runway is the only way to make this new international airport reach its real possibilities and full potential. The logistics to do this and the costs involved taking into account how the runway is positioned, and what land space is available are not an easy task. The A3/North Coast highway would need realignment, Beaches Ocho Rios is in the way, Boscobel Primary School would have to be relocated, and even then it may need the runway going into the sea to get the required runway length needed to handle commercial jets like the Boeing 737, Airbus 320/321, A220, which is what most airlines have in their fleet. Even the larger Embraer or Bombardier commuter jets in some fleets cannot offer service currently without another 1500 ft extension. Small wonder the grapevine chatter has the airport pegged as a covert front for the transshipment of drugs.

      Silly comment. What do you mean better than none? Jamaica didn't need this airport because there are two already which are enough for a small country like Jamaica. The airport cannot be self-sustained because not enough flights land there. So, it is costing the government and the people paying taxes. You don't build an airport just to say that an airport in the area. The management and team must analyse how will the airport bring in the principal amount of money used to upgrade and profits. As far as I see, they're losing and at the same time costing the government. They were too swell-headed.

      @GaryTallawahWoode หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CBM902Q While I would not agree with @newtonjosephs9255 saying it is better than none, at the same time I would not say it is not needed, as it could take a lot of pressure off Montego Bay and shorten the driving distances to Ocho Rios area resorts along with the growing St Ann, St Mary and even Portland parishes. The government needs to get it right and make it a proper facility with the full ability to service the right combination of commercial jets that fleets use to transport passengers to Jamaica, especially the budget airlines. The primary need is a long enough runway, not one that is still too short.

    This is a measured and well reasoned exposition of our major Financial bugbear which will not be solved since the country through its leadership has not seen fit to reduce our expenditures on Fossil fueled Energy by going 100% Solar with Battery Storage as well as sparking our manufacturing base and improve the major engine of our country , its Human Assets through highly improved Education pursuits. It must be said that though we would need to borrow to go 100% Solar the good news is that those loans will be paid off in less than seven years . The resultant benefits are enormous as we would all be able to have cheap electricity which presents huge opportunities for Manufacturing and Technological Development across the nation.

      Thanks. Corruption is ubiquitous. The fiscal and energy policies are designed to keep our countries poor and dependent. A solar investment pays for itself within 4 years, but aided by the World Bank, we transitioned from oil to LNG. This has maintained electricity rates amongst the highest in the world and stymied manufacturing. As you inferred, acquiring debt is of little concern because the return on investment is extremely high. And we don't need to borrow, there is $4.7b in the reserves. Check my other videos. Peace
