That 100 day break I took earlier in the year? Was it because I couldn't get around to finishing them or was it because the comics I was reading were just so good I was incapable of doing anything else? You be the judge.

So, let's change that and review my favorite Omnibus, Absolute Editions, OHCs, and Action Figures I've pick up from Wholesale Liquidation chain over the years.

you have good taste. I follow you to find new hidden gems :D
I appreciate the compliment, I'll make sure to keep sharing great comics!
watched for your thoughtful takes, subscribed because you mentioned you focus on indie works. stumbled on this channel randomly and glad i did.
I really appreciate you checking it out! Indie and lesser known comics are defiitely what I focus on since there are so many other great channels talking about stories from the big 2 and also because that's what I personally like to read. Any indie titles you've been loving this year?
@@bunkmastab i just started reading "Outer Darkness", artwork by afu chan is vibrant and aesthetically unique. And I recently finishe Elecboy by Jacquen Salaun, stylistically polished and beatiful artwork, although the story could have been fleshed out more. got a few interesting recommendations from watching your vids, so I'll be set for quite reading for the holidays. Looking forward to your next upload.
@@alih611 Both of those look great! I didn't know either of them but just looked them up. I like John Layman, the writer on Outer Darkness, and I don't read enough European comics so Elecboy seems like an awesome way to change that. Thank you for sharing those!
Sucks you did this video now. I'm 2 months late for the Kickstarter for seven years in darkness
Schmalke teamed up with CEX after self-publishing the first run, you should be able to get it from your comic shop. The Year 1 Progress Report reprints the 4 issues that make up the first year and it's only $10!
Death ratio sounds like it needs to be ongoing. Cant wait to pick it up. Also BPVQ was hard to follow at points and some art too messy. Reminded me of pretty deadly
BPVQ is definitely a fever trip of a book and I totally get what you mean about the art being hard to follow at times. I kind of liked the utter chaos of the story and the shifting art style but that's for sure a book that won't land for some people.
Love We Don't Kill Spiders.....I kept hesitating on 7 years of Darkness ...it seems to have a long time between issues.
This man right here is the only reason I know the name Joseph Schmalke at all. I'm having a lot of fun with 7 Years. The story, while nothing mind blowing, is really fun and the whole series is just Schmalke doing stuff he likes. It's worth tracking down the Year 1 Progress Report, all 4 issues of the first year for just $10. Definitely worth it
Damn that brings so much pleasure to see someone just retreat to a place of solace in the bingereadings of quality comics/mangas bunk! Sounds like something that just happened to me though it was lasted for only a month and a half. I marathoned all of Minoru Furuya’s series but sadly in usa he only has CIGUATERA released in 3 omnibus volumes (2 vols in 1). As for usa comics: FINAL CUT by Charles Burns because I love all his works including his Pseudo Comic Compilation KOMMIX. Now for Eurocomics: anticipating the return of HEAVY METAL Magazine which was just successfully backed on kickstarter. May the anthology stories be excellent. Happy Readings BmB & LONG LIVE COMICS!
Long live comics! My manga reading has slowed down a ton since high school, but back in the day I used to read more manga/manhwa than American comics, used to love going through the stacks of new Tokyopop releases. I haven't read the new Charles Burns release but it's definitely on my list!
@@bunkmastab Ah it's probably only a phase brother. Maybe you need to read more Seinens! Which is like reading Adult Oriented Literature but Manga form. I do highly suggest you eventually make your way to reading CIGUATERA since it deals with so many emotions from our everyday lives while still containing slices of extraordinary events in conjunction with that of the mundane ordinary.
Awesome list. Definitely some stuff on my radar. I pre ordered the hardcover for Dawnrunner a couple weeks ago so I’m looking forward to that.
I thought I was going up wait for the Hardcover, then I saw that Evan Cagle art on the cover art my local comic shop and decided I couldn't wait. I can't wait for the New Gods book to come out in about 2 weeks!
Some great titles on this list. Death Ratio'd, Bear Pirate Viking Queen and Precious Metals were all highlights this year for me. I'll have to check the other ones out.
Thanks for checking this out! Glad to see you checked out Death Ratio'd, even though though Mark Russell is a big name I feel like his AWA stuff tends to get overlooked. Death Ratio'd and Not All Robots were two of the comic series I've laughed hardest at
Nice video, man! Glad to have you back. PS: You always know the super niche stuff. You make image and boom look mainstream. Haha.
Thank you! I finally upgraded to a new laptop that should help with the editing process and get videos out a little sooner than 100 days. Appreciate the kind words, there are so many great comics out there!
The good thing about Bunk... Never have to hear him say "Is Calvin and Hobbs indie?" Only heard of a few of these, glad you enjoyed them though!
@@fireboy312002 Can you imagine if I made a video about books people had actually heard of? People might actually watch and what's the fun of that?
@bunkmastab i honestly enjoy yours since I never really know what to expect. That Supergirl team book and Ice cream man where the only ones I heard about
This all sucks. Read some real comics like frank miller
This might be my favorite comment I've ever received.
I agree, bunk needs to take lessons from you on how to be a real man! Can you please offer him some advice?
Have you read Dark Knight Strikes Again by Frank Miller? I highly recommend it
So I'm watching this on Black Friday, a couple of hours before I head out to my LCS's 3 for 2 sale. I picked up the first 2 issues of Bear Pirate Viking Queen but didn't get the last issue. Might have to check if it's there. Life is Strange and Seven Years in Darkness intrigue me so I'll see if they're available. I've been picking up the deluxe Ice Cream Man so I'll get there soon. Ultimates is already a pull list item for me and I've been enjoying it. I love that Marvel put out something so good that you had to include it. Curious to see if you're getting any of the current Absolute line from DC as I've enjoyed all 3 and will probably check out the rest as they come out.
I would love to check out the new Absolute titles ... but my LCS has been selling out before I even get there. Heck, for Absolute Supes they only had enough to cover people subbed to the series beforehand. I'll be checking them out in trade for sure
Always showcasing the series not close to my radar! From this list the only thing I read in full was Man’s Best and you know I had a good time with it! I admitted to Jesse that I needed to reread it as I was sick with a fever when I read it the first time and damn was it super trippy, an actual fever dream come to life. He got a good chuckle out of that! I’ve also read the first issue of Helen and really liked it. From the others, I think the ones that intrigued me the most were Bear Pirate Viking Queen and Seven Years in Darkness! Those are now officially on the radar! Thanks Bunk!
Thanks for checking it out! Bear Pirate Viking Queen is the kind of book you could read in perfect health and wonder if you weren't actually in the midst of a fever. That one's such a trip
I refuse to live in a world where I don’t get to watch Bunks videos! Man am I excited to check some of these out and Welcome back my friend!
That would truly be the Darkest of all worlds. Hope you and Mrs Nerdy had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I loved Dawnrunner, but then the book just gives up. It's like Sadamoto's Evangelion manga, but incomplete.
It could have used a few more issues, but I actually liked the way it ended. It definitely sort of peters out, which is surprising for a book that had been so big and bombastic before that but I think it kind of comes to a satisfying conclusion. As always, I appreciate you checking out the video, I feel like we have very overlapping comic tastes.
He’s back! 💪
Man, how are you everywhere?!
@ 💪💪
Man, Dominick dropping by to flex in the comments. These are the things I'm thankful for this year
@ you’re the man 💪
Helen Wyndhorn is part of the email newsletter bombardment I’m subjected to. Have to check it out.
It's a beautiful book for sure, give in to the marketing emails!
I hope Mad Cave's Nottingham is on your list. I typed this before watching your vid by the way.
As you probably saw, it's not but I got a subscription to GlobalComix specifically to read all the Mad Cave titles. If this video had come out later, I'd definitely include Spectrum by Mad Cave, only one issue so far but that book is wild!
“A week before Halloween”. Checks time. Realizes time flies. Yeah, checks out.
I am pretty consistent about filming new videos. I am very inconsistent and very bad about editing the videos I have filmed
Now I have something to be thankful for tomorrow
I'm thankful to have both the Brave and the Bold Boys in my life
It's always a great day when a new Bunk vid drops
Too mind, Labrewskiii! Hope you're having a good weekend curled up with some great comics
has anyone told u that u have the look of Kevin Connery
David from Organic Priced Books said that, too! I'm never going to be mad to be compared to the definitive voice of Batman
Nice, happy to discover your channel.
I'm happy you did! Can't believe it's almost time to put out another one of these
Thanks for the heads up man.👍
@@MattHouck-x7v Absolutely! Those Ollie's deals are too good to keep secret
Neto Diaz and his wife did a few pinups for me 3 years ago. I even got his wife to commission some colors on another pinup I did recently. Awesome couple.
@@resistancepublishing I love hearing that. I've got a few of Netho's pages from Punisher, Vanish, and now this and really love his style. Awesome to hear that both he and his wife are cool people
@ yea, they are. He’s always up to doing commissions if he’s not busy
Your camera can’t decide whether it wants to over or under expose.
@@LiteratureInPictures These pages are so hot, my camera's got to wear shades. And also flood lights
@ 😎
Really nice pages! Especially love the Lonergan -- I was thinking of picking one up as well just on the basis of the art alone. I've oddly fallen into the habit of buying pieces without having any connection to the story or any prior emotional or nostalgic tie to them. But Man's Best sounds really fun. Thanks also for reminding me about Comiconart -- I'll have to try them out one of these days. I met one of the Artists Bullpen people in person the other month. They seem really cool and committed to their artists.
Thanks for checking this out! Everything I've heard about Artist Bullpen has been really positive, which you absolutely want to hear coming out of the fiasco of the last days of Cadence. And if you're looking for some Lonergan from a story you may not have a connection to, Sam from Artist Bullpen says that he's in the process of scanning in the Arca pages and should be putting them up soon
See I’m happy you edited this… but that’s more time I could have been paddling you all night till my arm got sore
Good thing no one looks at the comments on my art unboxing videos or this would be a bad look ... for you. Especially since you do an awful lot of losing ...
👀
Lovely pages, I always love seeing & hearing about the specific story moments that speak to you. On that Lemire page I was immediately drawn to the perspective on that vertical panel. As for Netho Diaz, his pencils are fantastic! I’ve seen some of his recent X-Men related work and it’s stunning! A profile on the rise I’d say, and rightfully so! But wow do I love the Man’s Best page you picked up. That circular motion to denote the tension swirling between them is striking! Also, that scene playing out across the bottom of the page? Just pitch perfect! Congrats again on the new pieces and I very much appreciate the shout out. Glad to hear you’re enjoying the videos, I’ve been having so much fun just yammering away!
I spent WAY too long going through Jesse's available pieces on the Artist Bullpen after you alerted me to that. Even after I placed the order I wasn't completely sure I picked correctly ... until I saw it in person. That was everything I want in a page, even if it didn't have the classic Lonergan circles, just the tension circles
TH-cam failed me, I’m just seeing this video now! Thanks for this overview! Quite a beautiful book!! I ended up skipping this release but hope Murder Falcon & DAPB get the same treatment…those I’d pick up for sure!
Extremity is probably my least favorite of DWJ's solo work but there's some beautiful art direction with the series that owes a lot to Nausica. I'm such a mark for DWJ that I'll probably be backing any campaigns for these in the future
Great overview. This is an incredible book. So glad I backed it too!
Right?! I knew on some level what I was getting when I backed the Kickstarter, but until I actually had it and got to flip through, I didn't really know. Such a great book
1:42 What’s in da box?! 😂
I'm pretty sure it's not Gwyneth Paltrow's head . . . Mostly sure. At least 50/0
Reading s10 ultra tablet the art is amazing
Reading digitally is almost a cheat code, you get the best of both worlds. You can see the art at the prefect size for general reading and also blow it up to appreciate it at the largest size
@@bunkmastab yeah especially on 14.6 screen lying down on bed
Gorgeous… the host and the book
I'm blushing... except now I'm just mad everyone else isn't calling out how beautiful I am
That's magnificent! What an outstanding edition.
It's so gorgeous. I don't quite know where it's going to live but it's such a beautiful boy and I just want to snuggle it
Just now learning about DWJ, his art is jaw dropping. Have to pick up one of his books soon, I’m thinking Extremity will be the 1st. Gr8 vid showing off stuff that others don’t
Thank you so much! Extremity just came out with both an Oversized Hardcover (OHC) edition as well as a Signature Edition that has a reprint of the art at the original printing size. Either one is a great addition to any library
I love Ollie's. I got a doctor strange 90s omnibus for $29.99
YESSSSSSSSS. Cheap omnis are the cheat code
I have bought *so* many comics at Ollie’s over the past few years.
With such great prices and a pretty great selection (as long as you're willing to wait), Ollie's resets the market on collected editions
whats the discord for tracking whats at ollies? i started collecting a few months ago because someone showed me the omnibuses they got there its now easily my favorite store.
The main Discord I use is the Near Mint Condition, but that's only accessible for Patreon members. For free Discords that track Ollie's, the Comics Are Dope server has been really good
Man, I need an Ollie’s in my city bro. You found some amazing stuff there. I sold my absolute flashpoint, and Absolute Justice League Origin cause I have the omni’s. I Lowkey regret it though, but I need the room haha.
DAYDAYYYYYYYYYYTYYTYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! That's kind of the Ollie's conundrum. You see the crazy deals and feel like you need it. Then 6 months later you realize you're never going to realize the stuff you bought
At this point in my life my top 5 (in no particular order) Daytripper Daredevil Born Again Invincible Mister Miracle by King Batman Long Halloween
Those are some incredible choices and there's some real overlap for favorite/best stories (I read Mr. Miracle when my wife was pregnant with our first child and it's still my favorite book, not just comic book, about new parenthood) but they don't quite land as most important for me. Some absolute bangers on this list, though!
I'm lucky enough to have 2 ollies within 30 mins and another 3 within 90 mins. Have scored a copy of the way oversized adamantium/vibranium books and the averages earth's mightiest heros box set.
Nice grabs! Mine didn't get any of the Adamantium/Vibranium big books or the Kirby is Fantastic that I saw some other shops got. We're also usually at least a week behind what I see pop up at other shops, so I think mine probably miss a fair amount, I just try to stay happy about the stuff we do get
@@bunkmastab I'd be interested in hearing more about the discord you are in that spreads the news of what's available at different ollies locations.
@@cosmiccraziness6357 the main one I use to track Ollie's items is the Near Mint Condition one, but that's a perk of being part of the Patreon. For free servers, I like the Comics Are Dope Discord from BJ Kicks, not as active but still good for Ollie's items
I have gotten so many great deals at Ollie’s I would love to have found that Moon Knight Omnibus. I did get the GIANT Avengers Vibranium Edition there one time. Some recent great finds for me were DC Absolute of Justice League New 52 and Wonder Woman by Azzarello Vol 1. There are many times that I find nothing that I want, but every now and then I find something really good or a huge haul of stuff. I only get hardcovers now because I have found their stickers impossible to remove from trades without residue staying behind.
I don't know what Ollie's puts in their stickers but nothing loves a goopy mess like an Ollie's sticker. That's awesome you were able to grab that Avengers Vibranium edition, I remember a few years ago people saying those were popping up, kept hoping to find that or especially the Marvels Platinum edition by Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross but no luck on either
I'm in AZ and there are no Ollie's close. I visited Michagan a while back and I was close-ish to one so I had to go and check it out. Didn't find any white whales, but got some HC's and trades that I hadn't seen. I do enjoy the hunt! It's fun scouring the shelves and bins!
Glad you got to join in the fun on your trip to Michigan! We went to Upstate Michigan this summer (Traverse City and Luddington) and loved it, now just need to get enough time to do some comic hunting! When I lived in Denver we had 2nd & Charles which wasn't like Ollie's but still had some great finds, not sure if they extend down to AZ but CO is closer!
@@bunkmastab We don't have those either lol. There is a used bookstore that is fairly close by that go to on occasion. I have found some good stuff there from time to time. So it's not completely discount comic dry out here lol.
I just recently had some crazy Ollies scores!
Oh yeah? Can't wait to see what those are!
What lcs you go to. I got nothing like that
Ha, it's definitely not normally like this but they've done things like this in the past. There was one day a few years back where they had stacks of $40 omnibus. The shop is Carol and John's Comic Shop in Cleveland, OH. Worth checking out if you're ever in the area!
Where did you get your book shelves!!!
Depends which shelf, the one on the left of the video is a Billy Bookcase from Ikea. The one on the right side is one I made myself, super heavy duty for my omnis. The color comes from the Linseed oil stain I used as a finisher.
@@bunkmastab awesome! Thank you! 😀
Great video! Can we get the music Playlist for this vid? It was bangin'.
Those all came from an Ovani music library of music assets meant for video games. The horror themed songs (like the one playing for Beneath The Trees) are especially good
Nothing better than finding Omni’s and Absolutes at Ollie’s for a great price!
Nothing better! Makes up for all those other times you go in there and find nothing but volume 5s of random New 52 trades on series you're not trying to collect
