Fellow comic art collector here! Great point on there being some great examples of visual storytelling in a medium that doesn’t have to be all about splash action superheroics. I will say though that it is very easy for those budget friendly pieces to like you said…lead to a much more expensive hobby. I’ve been sharing the things I pick up here on TH-cam and the why’s behind what I pick up. One piece of advice I would share to anyone is look at your existing collection and identify things you maybe could live without. Sell off stuff to then reinvest into the collection! Thank you for checking this out! One of your best pieces of advice I got when I was getting into the hobby is never buy a piece just because it's cheap. Like you said, this is a collection and you want to curate. For me, I tend to care way more about what artists I'm adding than I am the type of piece but I totally get the idea that you're talking about. If your whole collection is interiors/panel work, it makes sense to wait until you can add a showcase piece, something like a splash, spread, or cover. Definitely need to go check out your channel now and see what you've got!

I also just wanted to clarify, I don’t think there is anything wrong with cheaper interior pages, that’s where you get great examples of sequential storytelling! I also wanted to say that I didn’t mean to sell off interiors just to consolidate, I meant that sometimes when we focus more on one thing (comic art), other areas of our collections might not mean as much (in my case, some toys). So by selling off toys & comics, that’s where the bulk of my art buying money comes from. Great way to recycle hobby funds!
@@CarlsCollection I get what you're saying, I actually did something similar a few years ago. As a lifelong video game player I had amassed a pretty decent collection. After having my first kid, I stopped playing for the most part. Went through my collection, sold off some of the rarer games that I knew I'd never play again, used that to fund my comics/comic art hobby. I think it's always healthy to go through our collections, figure out what we don't necessarily want anymore, and curate a collection that's more indicative of us as collectors
I actually had your haul from a few months ago that had all of those incredible pieces, especially that Maggie The Mechanic Love & Rockets piece. Part of why I wanted to showcase this video is to show new collectors that amazing art pieces are available at every budget. That said, I don't know if I've been as utterly impressed in the high level of quality and curation as the pieces you've shown off!
Thanks man! I'm kicking myself for not also picking up one of Cowan's pages from Icon vs Hardware when I had the chance. I feel in love with the raw pencils of the spread I got from him but there was one page he drew with the Blood Syndicate I really wish I had snapped up!
Thats some great artwork, I have some art that I have picked up from the little con that we have up here. It's not at that, it's just one character art instead of panels. I have been tempted a couple times of picking some up but ultimately didn't pull the trigger on it.
It's a rabbit hole for sure, but it's my favorite part of collecting. Being able to read a story, then take a look at how it got made is a really cool collecting moment. Personally, I'm a way bigger original page to commission guy for that exact reason. And when I miss on all my bids on the OPB Whatnot, just leaves me more money for art and cards!
Take my shirt off? You know I hope that behavior for my TBATB streams! And I typically don't frame my pieces. Early in my collecting journey I tried to frame my pieces and ... yikes, there is not enough wall space in the world for that. Most of my pieces are stored in portfolios. A few special ones (like the Ice Cream Man page you can see over my shoulder in every video) get framed and are scattered around my comic space
