Does the fat and super slim models have the same drive connection
Is it possible to put this strait on a jail broken ps3
I am pretty sure you can even run it on an unmodded ps3. If you search for GhtvReloaded on X/Twitter they have a discord link and a recent announcement that it can run on almost any game console now.
They said the PS3 system does not support an internal 2TB SSD or HDD. I never tried it myself I just googled it.
I was thinking between SSD or HDD but then I read some comments that say that an SSD would be better not just because of speed, but also because heat and noise. Specially heat, which would also increase the speed
man I remember when I was around ~13yrs old I thought about putting a ssd inside my ps3 just to 'make it better' for loading. how young and wishful i was haha. I'm not surprised load times didn't improve much, not only is it not running sata speeds, it was limited by sony to use the bandwidth for other parts of the system (i think the cpu and ram, iirc...). But seeing the textures load so quickly would have been like witchcraft back in the day. good stuff, thanks for the blast to the past with this. Its something I would have done during my teenage years if I had the money for it and I can experience it through this video.
I didn't get a Xbox One that cheap but in late 2022 for around 45€ in white including a controller (the newer bluetooth-compatible type with a working Play & Charge battery), the BD drive took the discs and spun them, but didn't recognize, so I got a new laser unit and it works fine since then. Also got a white One X just weeks later where the drive wasn't working and it just needed some cleaning, the rollers were so dirty they couldn't pull a disc in(!), also the rest of it was pretty dusty (I couldn't figure out how much dust it collected in less than five years (and the White One X was released in October 2018, so less than four years). Upgraded the One X to a 2TB SSD and it runs great (It would have been nice if they had offered PS4 Pro and Xbox One X back then with 1TB SSD for a 100-150 bucks more (the difference from a 1TB 2.5" HDD to a SSD of that capacity)), gave it to my brother because I already have a Series X and the One is in my bedroom. It's great that Microsoft despite the hard drive replacement isn't as easy as the PS4 which has a simple cover and screw allows you to throw in any HDD/SSD that had 500 Gigabytes or more and reinstall the OS (I even managed to clone and resize it to the 2 TB with Clonezilla so I didn't have to redownload my games), while the Xbox 360 was very restrictive and only allowed whitelisted HDDs (only with a JTAG/RGH you can use an internal SSD or non-whitelisted HDD). AFAIK you don't need to fully recap that Power Supply just the obviously bulged one.
That's cool that you fixed the laser and got it working again. These xbox one's did not seem to be very popular although they can still most of the current gen games for cheap. Regarding xbox 360 SSD I heard that fatxplorer was able to get SSD's working on retail xbox360's. I haven't tried it myself but may try at some point in the next few months and post a video about it
That's close to the results I had about 10 years ago with an SSHD on a PS4, while being a bit slower, that was much more practical and a true upgrade from 500 GB HDD to 1TB SSHD.
for an older machine fuck no just get a cheap hard drive mechanical unless you want less noise but then you would be upgrading the fan as well. my point is that speeds on those older machines peak after a certain point and an ssd is just not going to work at its fastest. this is especially true for a ps2 machine
Bring back optimized games!!!
Cheers!
"the gluestick was useless" - pretty funny comment! And the same thing I was forshadowing when you talked about it
The benchy looks not that good for your info: Your first layer looks to be too high too. If you can stretch your budget (and have the opportunity to give this printer back) I'd recommend you a Bambu Lab A1 - it'll take care of 90% headache issues and will get you to printing, not to trying to get your printer running. You'll have a lot of work to do otherwise
Thanks for the info. I have had some struggles with the printer especially keeping it level. I will look into the Bambu Lab printer.
@@pathfindercast Happy to help! I did a similar mistake with an Anycubic Kobra 2. spent more time setting things up then printing. Bambu Lab got a pretty good Black Friday deal for the A1. It’s just clicking on print and printing. If you got any other questions I’ll happily help
You aren't necessarily limited by the read speed of the blueray drive, rather by the speed they 'assumed' would be the bottleneck read/write speed as to have consistent pacing during the install process. That assumed bottleneck may have been the write speed of the original drive. But it could also be the read speed of the blueray. It may just be software limited, if so, installing a faster blueray drive, somehow, would not increase install speed.
So basically it’s not necessary… unless your a speed runner
What a great video! Thanks for putting this together!
Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

you look like steve austins long lost cousin.
That's funny. Never thought about it but cool.
The HDD is by no means unusable, but after the hard drives in these older consoles inevitably fail, I'm sure we'll start to see refurbs show up with SSDs in them. It only makes sense to upgrade them if they fail
Didn@; make a big of a difference as I thought it would. Clearly the ps3 hardware isn’t taking full advantage of the SSD Probably a sata port issue
Its only capable of 150mbps using sata 1 so probably only 30-40mbps faster in total but should have basically no seek time, and better random read and write speeds
Zzzzzzzzzz
SSD makes a tremendous difference to PS3-4 consoles, loading times are so much faster, breathes new life into these excellent old systems 👏
Can you do a test on how much faster LittleBigPlanet and ModNation Racers loads on PS3 SSD?
I just need upgrade my XBOX ONE X aluminum cooling fins to copper rolls, for now.... -& increase cooling fan size...more airflow.😅 --2 TB SSD DRAM CACHE upgrade, Saved for future...Lower price (PS6/NEW GEN CHIPS COME OUT 2026) (My XBOX 1X runs hot! Plastic Body removed...metal body/CPU MOTHERBOARD burned my hand!!!)
Amazing how late consoles adopted SSDs.
due to costcutting Its not like the mega minds atSony didn’t know they existed
Not at all. Not only were they insanely expensive initially (mentioned in the video), but early SSDs came with a lot of drawbacks, while HDDs were a mature and reliable technology. Now though, you can get SSD almost as cheap as a 2.5 inch HDD, and the reliability has been great on my systems, no issues.
I threw a 512GB SSD into my PS3. Some games load so fast that the cutscene audio is playing while I'm in the game. It's an excellent idea to use SSD in your PS3, PS4, and so forth.
Thanks for the vid. What's the advantages of OneSaUCE over CoinopsX V5? Which one would you recommend?
OneSaUCE is essentially retroarch so you get lots of ability to customize the emulator and shaders (such as adding CRT scanlines or changing aspect ratios). CoinopsX v5 has all of the optimizations done for you so it works great without any added work and you lose the ability to change any of the settings if you don't like what you see. CoinOpsX will be the one that most people will want to use because it does work really well. They both have the same game selection. I only "upgraded" to OneSauce because I find it fun to play around with all of the different settings to get the most realistic arcade experience.
what head of geeck u have and you show it
and games on cd are not on the ssd its simple to understand no?
With a modded console you can put all games on the HDD/SSD simple to understand no?
guognol!!! that change the speed of start up consol doxnloading games or media but dont change the speed of game in general what are you doing with your chrono nothing but showing u stupid that change the time of downloading a party nothing else not more gps or anythink else but better responsive of system and responsive game online like cod but not more fps just better fluidity of games
I think it's the PS3 hardware that hold the SSD loading times back from it's full potential. It's likely that the SSD can output the data faster than the RAM of the time can take it in.
Correct The ps3 hardware is bottlneckimg the ssd Inread The port for the hdd is the main issue. It is not able to move data as fast as the sss.
If possible you should try testing The Last Of Us. I remember it taking ages to load in from disc just to get into the game.
Was the FTP done over wifi? That file transfer seems awfully slow so it must be bottlenecked somewhere. If the entire link is wired, then it is the PS3's CPU. If the PS3 is connected via wifi, then it could just be the limitation of the 2.4GHz bandwidth.
Interesting, but its not worth it unless you have lost or permanently damaged your hdd. Ps3 is very optimized for the hdd so it will run just fine. This 30 seconds is for a high demanding game as he said it came out on the final days of the console. Get only if you ps3 is doomed.
I did this test years ago too, and it on average made a 20% difference. Some games however had programmed or hard-coded delays built into them. GTAV was one of those games IIRC. The HDD light would blink with an SSD, then go out, and you'd just be stuck at a loading screen with nothing happening for the same amount of time as the HDD.
This makes me wanna get my YLOD PS3 repaired, and upgrade it with an SSD
Awesome content! Thank you.
12:45 it took what!? 7 HOURS!?
Is your Ps3 the original fat ps3 that is backwards compatible on ps 1,2,3 games?
People saying the SATA bus wasn't fast enough were under the impression that spinning rust would get anywhere NEAR saturating even a SATA1 interface. A 2.5" HDD even at 7200RPM reads at different speeds depending on where the read head is, it can be between 80mb/s and 120mb/s The SSD has no such limitations and can fully saturate a 150mb/s SATA1 bus at all times in addition to not having any seek times. An SSD is better in even old UDMA100 IDE drive situations due to this. Hell, I have an 8088 computer from 1984 with a 512mb Compact Flash card and it's faster than a 7200RPM full size hard drive from 1998 on benchmarks, and that's on an 8mhz ISA bus.
😄
When I put the 1tb SSd's in mine, it just wouldn't take OSU so had to physically create the drive partition using a programme after working out the various parameters of the main storage size and the essential parameters of the Xbox folder drives and it loaded straight up to allow me to OSU and its never looked back. It was easy to do as being a SSD it handled with a USB connection to my PC, format, then look up the partition names and sizes for a 1tb in my case but a 2tb would be different, create the partitions then pop it into machine and should go to troubleshooting and take the offline OSU from a usb key, in fact I noted that the SSD was waiting almost continually for the USB drive lol Very important to get the partition sizes and names 1:1 noting upper and lower and special characters if needed.
I converted one of my two 1540's to a Forza Edition, someone on ebay sold the complete shell and button board etc for a £10 cheapie and I grabbed it, took about 10 mins to have it all up and running, roaring car sounds instead of beeps and whatnot :) Now I am waiting for another special edition come up like the Forza one and convert my second one to that :D I also did both my PS3 fat buggers with limited edition cases, not as good as the Forza mod but look amazing :) Oh I also put in my 1540's Sata SSD's 1tb, got 500gb same in my PS3's.
Wait a minute. If you're copying F3AR to the SSD/HDD are you really measuring write speeds? I mean, you're reading the data from the disc anyway, half the time is spent reading the data, half is spent writing it.
I wouldn’t call it more reliable if the ssd takes a shit like mine did. Have since switched back to a Hdd (7200). I wish you luck with your supposed ssd upgrade.
Oh man, that is a bummer! Did the SSD stop working with the PS3 or was it completely hosed?
Completely hosed. So far the hdd is working great.
i love mine! finally have all my (and some friends') digital games downloaded on it, tons of shows/movies, music. and it definitely runs smoother
That is great to hear, enjoy!
About MGS4. Originally it was made to run from disc (from a certain point of view) and install every stage of the story maps (every game chapter had it's own install. LONG ASS LOADING TIMES) as you reach them. Obviously because the initial HD size on the release PS3 wasn't big enough for the whole game. Only later can you install the whole game at once with an update from the game menu. Also it removes MGO...
Not a very big difference considering it’s a SSD vs an slow HDD (5400rpm) but it’s something better
