There seem to be a lot of shopkeeper ranks in the enlisted ranks. A whole army full of senior quatermasters is fine to run Aldi but who leads troopr in the field?

Traditionally in the PLA, who is an arm of the CCP, promotion was bought, and then the newly "promoted" extorted those below them! (Soldiers needing a pass, pay the officers!)

I guess they wanted to get away from British Army insignia for the most part....

Who cares! Who cares about the Irish military? Who cares about Ireland any longer? What values are important to Ireland these days? A lost nation and a lost people of little interest to most outside of Ireland.

This video was well presented. Bravo Zulu. As a Coast Guard veteran, I'll just add a little clarification. The USCG Investigative Service (Special Agents) are primarily comprised of civilians. The "reserve only" rating of Investigator should be renamed, and is predominantly held by reservists who are already senior level civilian law enforcement officers/judicial practicioners. The USCG has another Investigative division. It is part of the Marine Safety community, Marine Investigator. I served in this capacity with the (then) reserve only rating PS - Port Security (now definct and absorbed into Marine Law Enforcement), in both Active & Reserve billets. I was the first Petty Officer Investigator. Originally Investigators were strictly Warrant and Commissioned Officers. We were tasked with a wide variety of Investigative assignments... Marine casualties, vessel accidents, sinkings... Personnel casualties. Merchant Mariner misconduct, Crimes against persons aboard merchant & commercial vessels, Marine Environmental Protection Investigations, Passenger Vessel for Hire, and similar cases. Occasionally we would handle recreational boating incidents as backup to State agencies. On one occasion I was personally assigned a "wanted fugitive" investigation of an individual wanted for an act of terrorism at sea in U.S. waters. Yes, I found him. But wasn't part of the apprehension team... he was overseas. We were the only part of the military Coast Guard who could wear civilian clothing on-duty, though we rarely did. And then it was part of illegal P4H (Passenger for Hire) sting operations. Just a few words about a very little known part of the Coast Guard. Semper Paratus

Towards the end of this item the narrator covers the emblem of the USMC. It’s interesting to note that if you change the eagle for a crown and display the other half of the globe then you have the emblem of the Royal Marines.

Some fine men served in the Irish Army over the years ,many with great skills ,remember one guy like a tailor ,great with a sewing machine ,Pity the past governments closed down so many barracks around the country , Magee Barracks Kildare town , Built in 1901 to train British artillery brigades for service in the Boer War, and closed in 1998, the barracks provides an exceptional spotlight for the local history of County Kildare and the military history of twentieth-century Ireland.

Former American soldier here. Glad there's no international cooperation of militaries. There are so many types of rank insignia I couldn't figure it all out. Couldn't tell who the officerrs were. Probably end up saluting everybody.

The rank insignia up to officers are obviously intended to be as non British as possible. Strangely as soon as they reach the officer ranks they largely follow the British rank emblems, minus of course any crowns.

Why aren't these fux in NATO defending the west ?

Its shameful how poorly equipped the Air Corps are equipped today. Back in the 50s we had modern for their time jet fighter aircraft but today we are only equipped with props and helicopters. its an embarrassment that we rely on the RAF to protect our airspace. The personnel in the air corps are absolute professionals and should be properly equipped instead of just being trained to work for commercial airlines when they retire from the military.

16 years spent in kinetic operations in the British Army and I have yet to see a real Irish soldier. Clearly, they were batshit drunk when putting together their Rank structure and apart from seeing action in World War I, Ireland remained neutral for WWII and continues to hide behind the UN to do cushy peacekeeping roles. It would seem to be a pointless force given its geographical location as the UK keeps the Irish safe just as it did during the battle of Britton and any Nazi occupation from WWII.

The Irish Air Corps have 26 aircraft, none of them combat. They need not have a rank above Colonel for such a small outfit. Ireland relies on NATO for their defence in reality even though they are neutral.

Severe insignia inflation here? Three-star privates? That would be a Captain in other armies! Double sets of chevrons for sergeants? Does this make them twice as good as sergeants in other armies, who only carry one set? Seriously, though, is there a rationale behind these apparently quirky insignia choices?

We Canadians have bragging rights to the degree of training, compared with RAF, USAF,……….
