    Very well put together video. However, I would like to have seen some photos. of the cap badges and buttons. Do the ratings have the name of their ship on the cap band? ⚓🇮🇪

    FUI: penultimate means second from the bottom, not the top.

    • @creanero
      @creanero 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It means second last in a given order. It does not necessarily have to be order of precedence or seniority: in this case it means second last in the order they're reading them out.

    It appears the Irish Navy has expanded dramatically since joining the EU. It also appears that the Irish Navy is not for Ireland but for the the use of the EU. If the the Irish Navy were working for the Irish people they would be helping to stop the invasion of Ireland.

    • @Mishima505
      @Mishima505 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      What are you on about? What invasion of Ireland? The primary tasks are coastal patrol, fishery protection, maritime policing and search and rescue. The Naval service only has two large patrol boats, no destroyers or frigates, so blue water operations are out of the question. In the event of anything big kicking off, the mutual defence agreement with the UK would kick in, and the Royal Navy would come to help.

    • @johnbrennan9584
      @johnbrennan9584 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Mishima505 According to my research the Irish Navy now has 6 patrol vessels. Two of these are large patrol vessels that could be considered corvettes. Back in the early 1990's they had two smaller used costal patrol vessels before the EU took over Ireland. Your inability/ refusal to see that Ireland is under invasion or attack by the WEF/ EU through weaponized illegal migration tells me all I need to know about you.

      @@johnbrennan9584 We have eight, two coastal patrol vessels and six offshore patrol vessels. In 1972 (the year before we joined the EEC), we had 5: one WW2 corvette, three minesweepers and an OPV. In the 70s we added two auxiliaries in a patrol capacity and two more OPVs, but retired the corvette and one of the auxiliaries by the end of the decade, giving 7 ships by 1979. In the 80s, four patrol vessels were added, but the other auxiliary and the minesweepers were retired, so still 7 going into the 90s. The eighth was added in 1999 and since then the fleet has roughly maintained 8 vessels despite occasional gaps or overlaps to the present day. Some vessels are in reserve or overhaul, but that's not unusual: even the mighty US carriers aren't at sea 100% of the time.
      The Irish Sea is not a stretch of water that significant numbers of people are crossing in small boats that could be picked up by the Naval Service. Anyone coming here is doing so through sea or air ports or over the border with the North. Also, any Irish person complaining about illegal immigration is deeply ironic.

      @@johnbrennan9584 So much wrong in one post! We have SIX offshore patrol vessels, they're not corvettes. We still have two smaller inshore boats for customs work that are to be based in Dun Loaghaire. Your notion that the EU has taken over Ireland is such bigoted small-minded drivel. The EU has its flaws, but overall Ireland has done VERY well from its membership in the EU. A lot of Brits though like you did back in 2016 and Brexit has been a disaster for them politically, socially and economically. And illegal migration isn't as big an issue for us as for other countries, plus to get here, you need to travel by plane or ferry, which means a passport. This has allowed many to be sent back to their own countries if needed. Also, this problem isn't unique to Ireland, so as conspiracy theories go, it's a pretty dumb one.

    • @ShenandoahShelty
      @ShenandoahShelty 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I think the Navy of Ireland has about 720-ish sailors and officers. It sounds like that if a naval officer does not hold a higher position in the ministry of defense, a Commodore is as high as it goes. I think they have a handful of patrol vessels with the largest being corvette sized. I guess you're not going to run a carrier strike group with 700 officers and sailors. We may have seen the navy in its entirety, in this video.😀

    • @creanero
      @creanero 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      8 patrol vessels, the largest of which are ~2,300 tonnes displacement. The Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Service is a Commodore. If you check the video closely, you might notice that they used the same guy, Mark Mellett as the example for both Rear Admiral and Vice Admiral. This is because he's the only person ever to hold either rank in the Naval Service. As @ShenandoahShelty says, he was promoted to these ranks because he was first Deputy Chief of Staff and then Chief of Staff of the Defence Forces. The Army rank structure also only goes as far as Lieutenant General.
      Ironically, the even smaller Irish Air Corps will shortly appoint its first full General (US 4-star) when the current Chief of Staff (Lt. Gen Sean Clancy) takes up a post as Chairman of the EU Military Commission.
