Emma! Talk with Hobbs’ vet. We were told never to feed our dogs pork. Otherwise, it was fun to see your mom again.
You do a lot of non-essential talking.
Happy New Year really enjoyed watching made me smile a lot
Thanks for spending some time with us! I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
First time watching your podcast. How blessed are you to share such a fine hobby! Your workmanship and color sense is fabulous!
Thank you so much! We are definitely lucky.
Hi. The yarn, de rerum natura Gilliatt, can be purchased in the USA from a really great yarn shop, Fibre Space in Old Town Alexandria, VA.
I love your podcasts with your Mum. So relaxing the way the two of you interact. Enjoy your break at home. ❤❤
Thanks for watching! I Had such a nice time.
I went to Briggs and Little Mill 1986. love seeing your Mother!! How awesome to have a mom who knits too!You are scared from the pain. I am much older and will never get anymore piercings . Love all the knits.
I bet the mill was so wonderful! I would love to go someday.
Just so fun watching you both! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed! Thanks for joining us.
Have Ian on to review the yarns and the patterns of the things you have made him. What he likes about the feel and function of each component of the knits youve made him. So we have a wearer's idea of how functional and comfortable different yarns and patterns are to people who arent steeped in knitting.
That is a great idea! If we can get him in front of the camera, I'll do that. (A VERY big 'if.')
Shop LaMercerie also carries Dererum Natura. They’re in Washington.
Very good intel! I will compile a list for my mom.
@@barnabyknits I am very to know this! 😀
Great catch up with guests!
Thanks for tuning in!
Yeah - a mom visit!!! I agree - you and your mom should do more episodes together. A definite treat!
I try to remember every time I go home - unfortunately, we only have an extended visit a few times each year. Too bad, especially since she is such a prolific knitter!
Would love to meet Ian-if I’m knitting and basically listening to you and your mom I can’t differentiate between you both 😅🧶🫶
I know, we definitely sound the same. She just sounds a little bit more Canadian! Thanks for joining. We'll see if we can get Ian to cooperate someday.
Love when you and your mom are together. Happy knitting 💚🧶🩷
Thank you so much! We enjoy it too.
Yes, just keep talking 😂 love it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Gilliatt is very very similar to Mota, in feel, construction, grist, roundness, etc. but I think their colour range is a little more extensive which is nice.
This is super helpful to know! Thanks for the tip.
What an enjoyable podcast with you two!!! Your Mom is so knowledgeable about yarn and content, see where you got your talent from, you two compliment each other!!! Happy 2025 🎉🍾
She is definitely a great knitter! I am so lucky.
Wow lots of knitting from you ladies! Such a great podcast. I missed the name of your sweater that you knitted from the yarn from Espace Tricot. Could you please tell me? I am in southern Ontario and have visited the Espace Tricot shop in Montreal Quebec. Such great customer service. Were you aware that one of the former owners Melissa now produces lovely yarn (& some new pattern) through her company Sonder Yarns?
The pullover with large stripes is called Blue House and the cardigan is called Centre-Ville. Thanks so much for watching! I have heard of Sonder Yarns - would love to try it sometime. She is an amazing dyer.
Hello Ladies. Happy New Year. My local yarn store, Fiber Space in Old Town Alexandria Va. Has carried De rerum natura Gilliatt as wall as ulysse, cyrano and antigone for several years. Fibre Space is a wonderful yarn shop, not too long of a drive from Baltimore.
I have been there too! Good to know they have DRN yarns.
Love your pressed flowers cardigan. Those colors are beautiful! Great job on your spinning! Your yarn looks great !
Thank you so much! I am really having a great time with the knitting.
Great podcast! I love watching you and your mom. Happy New Year to both of you!
Thanks so much! We had a great time.
Seriously, you both are adorable. You should visit with your mom more often and record a show multiple times a year. 🎉 On a knitting note, when you both said you pull the straw out of the yarn while knitting, I’m sitting here saying ‘wait what? We’re supposed to pull those out?’ 😂
Ha! I actually used to collect all the straw from Briggs & Little in a small container when I was in graduate school - I enjoyed seeing it build up! (Weird, I know.) Thanks so much for joining us!
Yay, an episode with Lisa and Hobbes! I love the knitting banter (and all the woolly goodness!). We have a Border Terrier and he is similarly motivated by ham and disinclined to wear knitwear. Once we tried to protect his paws from the salt in NYC with booties and he lifted one foot up, then another, then tried to lift a third and just fell over and lay there like a dead possum until we took them off. Congrats on getting so many of those single socks paired up!
That is SO funny! Hobbes doesn't mind the booties. I assume he understands that salty paws are worse (he hates this so much), but since dogs don't have object permanence, I don't actually know if this is true. Maybe he just can't be bothered to care anymore.
There is a dog sweater that does not cover the underbelly. Can't remember name, customizable and not difficult. Ravelry
Great news! I actually did knit one from PurlSoho for a tiny little terrier and he actually likes it!
A nice treat to see your video today. Lovely mom with an equally lovely daughter!
Thanks so much! She is the best.
Love watching you and your mom talk yarn! I would love the link to your episode where you discuss converting pullovers to cardigans with a steek.
Here you go! I completely forgot to add it to the show notes: th-cam.com/video/KQoMltf9VsE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=BarnabyKnits
What a treat to see your video up this morning!
La Mercerie on Bainbridge Island sells Gilliat and usually has a decent selection ❤️ They’re shipping is also pretty fast!
Great intel! Thank you so much.
Your mom is a delight! I’m sure many people have told you how much she looks like Jamie Lee Curtis. I love all of the sweaters, you are both such talented knitters.
She gets this a lot! Once we were on vacation in Ontario at a shop, and the young woman working there approached very cautiously and then was visibly relieved when it wasn't an actual celebrity.
Great to see you chatting with your Mum. So glad Hobbs make an appearance too. Happy New Year, Emma. I will have to look at Peak District Yarns. 🇬🇧
Happy new year to you, too! I hope you enjoy PDY.
I love watching you and your mom! I’m still struggling with the state of the country and just want to be with my people and your videos help me. I’m planning on casting on 3 new projects today now. You lift my spirits. Thank you.
I am so glad to hear this! We also feel this way. Keep knitting.
I endorse the pencil. I can erase and use the pattern again for a different size without so much confusion. I'm in Santa Cruz and make almost only sweaters, so after a year or two I switched to fingering only... so many nice patterns I can't knit. Happy 2025!
Oh boy, yes! It would be too warm to have thicker sweaters where you live.
Just found you! You are fun lol!
Love the idea of a mug cozy club! I was meaning to knit a few of those for Xmas gifts, but it doesn't look like that is happening. Maybe I'll do them over the course of 2025 and have them ready for next Xmas!
That sounds like a great idea! I might have to join you.
It was a welcomed surprise, this morning, to see your video. I was admiring your sweater, went searching Ravelry, and had it in my library. It's hard to believe it's the same sweater. I moved it up in my queue🙂 I ordered the Jamieson & Smith bakers dozen kit, and forgot to use your link 🙃 So I went back and ordered another yarn and used your link. Wishing you the happiest of holidays! Can't wait to hear all about it !
Oh my gosh, that is so sweet of you!! Thanks for watching as always. And yes, the Afmaeli sweater looks different every time, which is my favorite part about it!
Have a Merry Christmas in Vermont and with your local friends - love your sweater - you are a fabulous knitter. Enjoy your family!!
Thank you so much!! And thanks for tuning in!
Enjoy all the music and have a great Christmas at home. Love the socks. Just starting my third pair this month. Thought I would also knit a Musselburgh hat for my husband. Easy knits whilst we are staying with my daughter and the grandchildren. 🇬🇧
That sounds so lovely! I hope you have such a wonderful holiday and it will definitely be nice to keep the hands busy spending some time with family. Thanks for all your kind words as always!
I am guessing you mean Terri Haynes of at Haynes House Yarns, lovely indie dyer, short lived MD brick and mortar store
Yes!! At Haynes House! I figured it out and added the card, luckily.
Yes I loved Black Doves. Thank you for the Kate Atkinson recommendation. I am listening to A God in Ruins. ( after Life after Life). And knitting socks. Do you watch vlogs/podcasts? Have you watched Dish? Angela and Nick are funny . They have guests on .. ttfn🎄❄
I'll have to check that one out! My mom also has A God In Ruins in her audible so I will put that one on my list :)
@@barnabyknits Read Life after Life first. They are sort of side by side. I really liked Ursula in the book.
Did you put short rows in the sweater you’re wearing? I don’t see any in the pattern but your sweater seems to sit very nicely on you. I always enjoy your episodes, you knit so much! Thank you!
Thanks! I didn't modify this one with short rows but I have done that in the past on Icelandic-style yoke sweaters. I sometimes think about frogging this one back below the collar to add a couple so that it doesn't come up so far on my neck, but I never get around to it.
Another great episode Emma. ❤❤
Here's my suggestion for 2025 Socks. Knit a Sock Blank. Double knit (2 strands at a time) white or cream yarn, stockinette stitch. 100grams. Then DYE it. When you unravel the blank your two yarns will be similar enough to reproduce the same coloration on 2 socks.
Now THIS sounds fun! I might have to try it...
Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!! Always have lots of wips so there’s always something to work on no matter how much time or energy you have!
This is so true!! Thanks for watching and for your lovely words. Have a great Christmas!
Merry Christmas and enjoy your friends and family Emma!
Tog/theil coats for dual coated sheep
Last month as I was finishing up a sweater to be steeked , I realized the bottom of the sweater center was not the same as the yoke color work center. There was one reasonably solution, place the stitches on a needle that are just above the bottom ribbing. Cut and unravel the ribbing, re-knit the ribbing. It was perfect, I felt like I took a leap of faith that it would turn out ok. It turned out perfect. I’m happy for you that you also took a leap of faith. I’m Looking forward to seeing your re-worked navy sweater
The Christmas socks look great. WYS yarn washes and lasts well. The baby sweater is going to be beautiful. 🇬🇧
Love when you pull colors live on your podcast and just go with it!
Love your Christmas socks, including the toe and heel colors. I am also inspired to do 12 days of Christmas stripped socks and need to gather some colors. Thanks for the inspiration!
I just finished a pair of gift holiday socks and am almost done a pair for myself. I’m waiting to cast on a 24 striped Advent pair for Christmas Eve so I don’t add stress!
See, I think this is the way to do it!!
