We have just one antique mall here in Hawai’i so it’s Antique Alley or nothing. It’s always full and it’s not in a good location. So my wish to have a booth will stay just that - a wish.

With on and off selling of modern, MCM, vintage, antique, collectibles and decorative type items I have found out that the style of homes in your area is a great reflection on the type of furniture that people may be interested in. One thing that I have done in the past five years is once you are established with your inventory is start paying attention to how much you pay for something and condition is everything and become a bargain shopper so you can sell at a more affordable prices and still make a decent profit. For me I decided to price my items for resellers versus the general public since the resellers buy everyday versus the public that shops only a few times per month. Today’s buyers are more price conscious than ever, I do not specialize in this or that and if you do you will windup paying way to much for your inventory and forget about getting your labor cost back on refinishing furniture. I buy only what is very very reasonable and love shopping the thrift stores, flea markets and best of all yard sales. No body knows what really sells from day to day and what is hot today is cold tomorrow and with that in mind your sales maybe up one month and down the next month and picking your booth location in an establishment it’s always by chance meaning what is available. Another thing I do is watch what the customers are buying on the busy days most likely on the weekends as a indicator of what is selling. I would suggest starting out with small furniture, mirrors, wall decor, collectibles, kitchen decor, drinking glasses, coffee mugs and stay away from dishes for now and definitely don’t expect the customers to have your same taste you have. Everything is always at risk and good luck.

I am planning on getting a booth for my flipped furniture, mostly because I live in the sticks and people are, understandably, unwilling to drive out to us to see it. They are more willing to go to a shop. I will put other things in the booth too so there will be a variety of things.

Just saw your video. I just rented a space in Frisco at the Painted Tree Boutique. I upcycle and create. I have only been open 2 weeks and am wondering if I jumped the gun. I have a booth in a small antique mall in Durant OK but wanted to extend my brand. I have been selling at Farmers Market, Makers Markets, etc. I just wanted to get settled. I have my name on a wait list at a Mercantile but couldn't move in till March. It has been so much work to get set up and get the space pulled together. I am still not there. I was hoping to take advantage of Q4 but I might die trying to get enough in there. I appreciated your perspective on not having to redo the entire booth and put only that seasons stuff in there. I am going to got through my boxes, find the stuff I love and get it in that booth. I know it can sell year round. Thank you for your insight.

I have a project now on a Bombay Chest and I'm in a little struggle with blending because it's my first. The colors I'm using are Waverly Lacquer and Ink....but here I see that you are using Crimson and Merlot. So I will switch Ink to Merlot. I think I can do this now with your detailed tips. Hi Amy! It's a year since you posted this. I have an experience to share! I just spent 9 days selling at our local County Fair in N.CAROLINA. It was an 8x8 indoor booth, with cranberry and bright gold waist high curtains, and the same colors 8ft. High on the perimeter walls. I had planned a double booth but backed out to a single, since it was my first time there. I should have done the double. This was a mixed show...everything from politics to Girl Scouts, Charities, churches artists and crafts. I sold handmade items, mostly sewn with some glass block lights and papercrafts, cards. I Won a Blue Ribbon for the best booth! One of 4 given. I used a white pop up frame with 300 led lights around the upper parts of the frame. Initially, I set up a U shaped configuration. But people would not walk inside. The first day I sold $ 0. The second day, $5.00. Then 25.00, etc. On the third day I moved my biggest table across the front, it has a panel frame covered with fabric.. It allowed a back room space for storage. The sales started to improve, but not much. The next day I spent editing and printing new business cards, and stood out front for the rest of the show offering Alterations to as many High School girls as possible. Plus well dressed or special needs types. I had to change my strategy. Those people were only interested in buying food!

You explain things very well. I have a question if you had a phone number I would call my chairs are cream coloured with a pattern in the material but I would like them to look hot and bright vibrant colors. How would I go about doing that? sure hope I get a response. Thank you, your great

The chair came out beautifully. I always pass on velvet furniture because I didn't think it would be nice after painting.

A capsule a month is a great idea. I was getting stuck trying to create 2 six month capsules, one for the warmer seasons and one for the colder seasons. It’s too complicated. I am going to try your idea of one month capsules. Thanks 😊

Hello, I have a microfiber couch that had, I guess, faux leather arms. That faux leather has been scratched off mostly. Could I use the same paint I use on the microfiber on the arms?

That whicker box you have on the right end I have that same box. Although I recently moved and I can't find mine 😕. I kept sowing stuff in mine. Love the end result.
