    This is the clearest, most concise guide I have ever seen. It's interesting that the average captive bred "normal type" beardie is living to 20 years old, but the new fancy color morphs are only living 10 to 12 years. Since there are no new bloodlines coming in from Australia, I think there's a genetic bottleneck going on. When I get my beardie he will be a normal type, and I'm going to name him "Crikey". Shalom from Israel!

    I've got a rescue beardy who had pretty severe MBD when I got him. His skeleton permanently deformed and his muscles and nerves suffered some long term damage, but with adaptations his quality of life is pretty good, especially now that his bones have hardened back up with intense supplementation and appropriate lighting. I've been working since I got him to make his cage more accessible so he can be more active without overexerting or hurting himself. I didn't see this build until I already made up the skeleton for my little Stan Man's ramp hide, but I took a lot of pointers from your other videos! I just have to glue two more pieces of foam in place then I am gonna be able to start the spray foam layer! It seems sickly owners attract sickly animals, though, so I have to take the build super slow to avoid landing myself on bed rest for a few days or weeks

    • @tristanyoung7646
      @tristanyoung7646 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I watched further into the video and yeah, vet bills for rescue reptiles are no joke! Both of my bearded dragons are currently rescues with disabilities, and I've had one of them for a little over a year and the other for less than half a year, and all together they've probably wracked up about $3000 in vet bills since I got them! Even my perfectly healthy ball python tends to cost about $400 a year in vet fees, just for wellness check ups and now yearly blood work since she is getting up there in age! It isn't as much as my cats because there isn't a need to get things like vaccines and flea prevention, but the vet fees are always a huge part of my budgeting for new pets (especially the insurance, I had a uromastyx that grew quite sick in his later years and wasn't eligible for insurance by then, so on top of being worried sick about my best buddy I also had to worry about crazy bills for imaging and tests)

    Hi there, new owner of a 6 month old northern BTS. I was about to purchase some of the Ziwi and K9/Feline natural cans but noticed they both contain fish and mussels and other more natural brands often contain potato starch. So, my question is, how safe are these controversial ingredients and should I avoid dog/cat foods with seafood and/or starches or is it truly ok to feed these to blue tongued lizards/skinks?

    • @ReptileWay
      @ReptileWay หลายเดือนก่อน

      @pirad1922 Thanks for the comment. With Ziwi peak (and a vast amount of other natural dog and cat food brands), yes it does contain some fish, but proportional to the contents of the can and amount of fish that you would be feeding your Blue-tongue lizard in one-serving size (with the additional ingredients you can mix into it, vegetables, different cuts of meat, organs etc) is quite minute. It can be alarming when you google 'can I feed my Blue-tongue lizard fish'. The answers you will get are: - Absolutely not - risk of mercury poisoning (Tuna especially) - risk of parasites and toxins - high salt - high fat content (Keeping in mind these are all risks for humans, yet people still eat fish) I can say I have had no Blue-tongue lizards die when brought up on the diet I have shared. I have fed adults, babies and everything in between and they thrive. I would recommend do not feed them a bowl full of fish. However, with the amount that is in these cans, and also mixed with fresh ingredients (vegetables, cuts of meat and organs, fruit) it is totally safe for your Blue-tongue lizard. However, if you are worried, you can make up food entirely from fresh ingredients. It just takes a bit more time and effort. But essentially creating a base mixture of safe vegetables, different cuts of meat, organs, fruit (small amount as it is a treat) and then add Calcium, vitamin D3 powder (can also add a superfood supplement powder) you will have the ultimate Blue-tongue lizard food mix. The following video goes more in depth into their diet: th-cam.com/video/NkgsBdSL4iY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Jw82-j0TsHJJR4CH

    My mom has a bearded dragon but really does not care for it that much and it breaks mu heart. She loved it when she first got it but now about 8 years later she feeds it and that is about it really. On my last visit I had to take her outside onto the sun as it was 35°C outside and she was in the coldest room in the house, with her heating lamp off. I noticed both her nostrils were plugged up from shedding about a year ago. I managed to dislodge one with eyebrow plucking tweezers but the other one was really lodged in. Mom was surprised that you even have to help them with that, the poor thing had to breathe through mouth pretty much her entire life, cooling herself down as a byproduct. I ordered sharp thin tweezers for modelers and managed to dislodge the other blockage on that last visit while we were out in the sun. I think the nostril was mildly inflamed but she was visibly happy she can breathe free now. I am really disappointed with my mom in this regard. She always is so excited for new animal and then after couple years when the reality of responsibility for it settles in she just neglects it, never educates herself on what it takes to take care of said animal or what it needs... I got her some vitamin supplements and mineral powders to dunk veggies or insects in so that the dragon gets the proper nutritional balance in her diet. I'd take it but I'd encourage my mother to keep doing this with other animals and also I live in a really tiny apartment and one pet (a cat) is already enough there. Also the poor thing is dehydrated... instructed mom on how to bathe her but doubt she'll do it.

    I have a Darwin python and am getting her a much bigger tank and have been wanting to add my own background for it with a waterfall I don’t want to make it bio active just a waterfall, but I couldn’t find any info on wether that it’s ok and safe for that species. What do you think?

    How do you clean these enclousers?

      Good question. Because you have put waterproofing over the top of the paint work and rock work, it makes for easy cleaning. Water and a soft cloth for general cleaning. Or soapy water (I personally use earth dish washing liquid: natural based product we get in Australia, grey water safe, it does not contain nasty toxic chemicals, safe for reptiles and lots of other animals) for stuck food, it even makes for easy cleaning when it comes to a disgusting Bearded dragon poo. The waterproofing also creates a fibreglass texture, which adds to the ease of cleaning. I would avoid harsh chemicals and alcohol based cleaners as this may have a high liklihood of striping the waterproofing. Hope that helps!
