When is it time to call it quits?
Welcome to HOME RIGHT. The hot summer heat pushes gardeners to their limits. Garden burnout is common when the heat of the summer peaks. We are seeing the garden struggle with the lack of rain and heat wave here in central North Carolina and it is causing some frustrations.
Our Spaghetti squash is infested with white flies, and these flies are taking over the garden. Sometimes you have to decide when to let things go.

    Good video! Really nicely done! Just filled my first Vego Garden bed - I decide to cut out my grass & applied landscaping fabric ( DeWitt) , 2 years worth of cardboard , yard waste then good soil. A few more to fill. My soil is rock heaven- little ones, big ones, boulders & tree roots paradise-trees cut down over 20 years ago! You are sooo correct . This way of gardening is an investment- For me 3 years in the making!

      Thanks so much for watching and glad you liked the video. We have had a lot of success this year with our Vego Garden beds. In our area (zone 8a), we thought these metal raised beds would dry out faster than our traditional wood raised beds, but it has been the exact opposite. I feel that is partially due to the wood branches and deteriorating logs we placed at the bottom. We find the same success with all of our grow bags. We add about 1/2" of fine wood chips at the bottom of each bag. This way the bags don't dry out too fast. As we both agree, these are an investment, but we are very pleased with the results.

      From our experience, in NC, they do best between Oct-Apr when temps range on average from 45-75 and low humidity. I think they could do well in a greenhouse if you are able to control humidity. I also think they would work outside in your area if you covered them with plastic or frost cloth.

    Hi I love your trellis! I have some blackberry plants that I'm wanting to trellis as well. What are the dimensions of your trellis? It looks like you're using 2x2x8 pressure treated lumber? Are you anchoring it down with anything or do you bury it enough that you feel it's stable?

    • @homeright
      @homeright 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks for watching. All the material was 2x2 treated. We did not use anything to anchor the corner posts, just drove them about a foot into the ground. The final finish dimensions were 6.5' tall x 5' x 3.5'. It definitely won't last forever, but it was a low cost solution that has held up well for the past few years.

If your area has higher and more consistent wind gusts, I'm not sure how long the tarp would hold up

    Wow such an amazing job! You need security lol. I have a question for you ma'am. I just got 2 last fall and planted them. One is flowering wonderfully and it's low to the ground. The other one is smaller but has 2 large shoots growing straight up about 5 feet tall and it's all leaves and no flowers. Is that normal? Do I keep them? Trim them? I feel like they are hindering the main (lower part) from growing as much as the other one. Thoughts? Also do I have to trellis them? I didn't think about that I just thought they grew on the ground but your trellis idea is tempting.

    • @homeright
      @homeright หลายเดือนก่อน

      That sounds all normal. Those large shoots are your primocanes. They will fruit next year. Let your primocanes continue to grow at this time. There are different schools of thought, but we cut the top of our primocane around late august in our zone to the height we want. That allows for more side growth. Your shoots with flowers will provide the berries this year. Once fruiting is done, you can cut those at the ground late summer, early fall. A single stake about 6-8 feet tall will work if you want to trellis and tie primocanes to that. Thanks so much for watching

    I planted a Brown Turkey last year & one cutting from it this year along with four Celeste because these do well in Louisiana. I plan to try another variety or two. But since I ordered these...well who knows what they`ll turn out to be. The Celeste trees have leaves that look like a maple tree or mulberry and I`ve never seen figs with leaves like these four. But they`re clearly fig trees of some kind. The Brown Turkey leaves look familiar though. Waiting to see if it makes fruit. It`s a large, wide bush already and growing very very rapidly.

      The reason for the string not anchoring on the board is due to the fact that I was using materials I had on hand and the white board is only 16". As far as measurements off the board, the jig is designed for the end user to create whatever arch width they wish, so the distance from the top center point would be much greater for a large arch vs a small arch. Appreciate the feedback and thanks so much for watching

    Thanks for the video. I was really interested in how you leveled the beds on the uneven ground/minor slopes.

    This was the exact video I needed to learn how to grow ginger in a 5 gal grow bag. That's the same size I have and needed to know how many I could grow in them and you answered my inner mind question and some. Thank you

    We got the same one it’s a disappointing hunk of trash. My wife thought it would be a little better quality for the price compared to some of the others. The pre drilled holes aren’t aligned, we had to chase almost every thread to get the bolts to go in. Pieces aren’t cut well. Super flimsy ,It’s just junk. I should have bought the panels and built one myself .

      Sorry to hear this didn't work out and I had read similar reviews when we were deciding on what brand to purchase. But we also read many more positive reviews in comparison to other brands. It's been over 6 months since we built it and it has held up great for us so far. Thank you for watching and sharing your experience with this item.

    How are you bringing your water up into the bed?

    • @homeright
      @homeright 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We use a drip line irrigation system on all our beds. We're in the process of putting together a video on how we built our watering system for our raised beds, grow bags, and all our in ground plants. We will include how the metal raised beds are watered. Thank you so much for watching

    I just ground down the cast aluminum bracket that’s part of the assembly, there is plenty of extra metal there that isn’t needed.

    I have some growing now & they are going insaaaaaneeee!! But idk if u placed too many in one bucket lol. U gave 15gal as well, but I put like all of them in the same planter, & I used about 20, but layered. 😬. They are about 25” tall now & it looks like a freakin FOREST inside of the pot !!

      Thanks for watching. These things grow like crazy, so that is why we grow them in grow bags to control them from spreading. I hope 3 in one 15 gallon grow bag is going to give us a successful harvest. It's always an experiment....

    We bought the same greenhouse. How many tubs of silicone caulk did you end up using. Was it 3?

    Thanks for posting. I'm planning to buy a little glass Veikous one on Amazon to use here in Ireland. My biggest problem is the wind. I've had a potting shed blown to bits already so I'm looking for ways to hold the thing down.

    I would love to see how Keith made the grow bag benches and how you water the stacked planters on the deck.

    • @homeright
      @homeright 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks so much for watching. We will put out a video on our grow bag benches in the near future. They are real easy to build and we love the look and flexibility in their uses. In regards to our stackers, we have two methods for watering. Most times we will manually water from the top and in the center pvc tube that has multiple holes along its entire length. In that process, water will works it's way to all the plants. When we are away, or when we are short on time, we have a drip system that we set up and use during the warmer months. Drip emitters on the top and in the center tube work great in providing the necessary water the stackers need.

    Hey there! My partner and I completed our Veikous greenhouse build but are struggling to figure out how to attach the automatic vent opener since the greenhouse frame doesn’t seem to have a lip. What kind of metal attachment piece did you use to add the vent opener? Thanks so much for your help so far! We’ve already used a lot of your ideas, like the anchoring kit, so this is one of our last steps to finalizing!
