Jerusalem Artichokes | Sunchoke - Guide to planting, harvesting and replanting for the next season

- Welcome to HOME RIGHT. These Jerusalem Artichokes a.k.a "sun chokes" were very easy to grow with very little maintenance. We grew these tubers in containers (15 gallon grow bags). This is a complete video on planting the Jerusalem Artichokes, including updates during the summer months on the progress of the sun chokes. And finally, we weigh the harvest and replant the tubers in preparation for the next growing season.

Nice video thanks 😊
Glad you liked it and thanks so much for watching.
I am going to try them this year.
Glad to hear that you will be trying these this year. We found them easy to grow and low maintenance. Thanks for watching.
I have some growing now & they are going insaaaaaneeee!! But idk if u placed too many in one bucket lol. U gave 15gal as well, but I put like all of them in the same planter, & I used about 20, but layered. 😬. They are about 25” tall now & it looks like a freakin FOREST inside of the pot !!
Thanks for watching. These things grow like crazy, so that is why we grow them in grow bags to control them from spreading. I hope 3 in one 15 gallon grow bag is going to give us a successful harvest. It's always an experiment....
I planted mine here in zone 7/8A in march and they put out flowers that died back and now in July a second batch of flowers are coming along with more foliage. Unless they get full sun they don’t seem to flower but I don’t think that matters as far as the overall health of the plant though may affect the yield . I will find out. Thanks
Thanks so much for watching. This year we have ours located in an area that receives midday and afternoon sun. No flowers, but the plants look great. As you said, I will be curious to the harvest, and if flowering plays a role.
I grew some a few years ago and when I ate some, I got stomach cramps. Is there a way to prevent that?
This is our first year growing sunchokes and based on the research we have found, it is the inulin in the sunchokes that causes the stomach cramps for some people. We are not sunchokes experts, but we have found some websites that recommend soaking the sunchokes in water before cooking or boil the sunchokes in lemon water. We even found websites that recommend cooking the sunchokes with herbs to help aid in digestion. We can't confirm if any of these methods work, as we did not have the stomach sensitivities, but we do understand that sunchokes may not be for everyone. Sunchokes is a very interesting vegetable that has a lot of benefits but also has some concerns related to "stomach sensitivities".
Where did you order the chokes from? I bought some last year and they never sprouted.
We purchased our sunchokes from Etsy (bernardSalara LLC) and we think that 9 out of 10 sprouted and we were very happy with the tubers. I just checked Etsy and he is selling 10 tubers for 31.99, but he also sells smaller sets. I hope the link below works. Thanks for watching.

Smart putting them in grow bags. I just threw some trimmings along my fence line about six years ago. They come back every year. I have to tie them to the fence to keep them from falling over. I also plant pole beans next to them as they make a perfect place to climb.
@@homeright thank you!
We also had to trellis them near the end of the season, as they were getting over 5 foot tall. Great idea using them with pole beans. Thanks for watching
