Note my schematic in an early segment is inaccurate, the .43 ohm resistors that was identified later on goes between the emitter of the lower transistor and ground.

    We sold these in my days as a tech at our local RCA dealer. One of the selling points was you could hide the remote from your kids so they couldn't watch TV when you didn't want them to.

    I find my '80s RCA set interesting when turned off. It acts much like most flat panels and just goes blank. That set has a green display like this one. It has a CTC 120 chassis. My grandmother had a Sears brand TV with an RCA chassis from circa 1991 with the same shut down characteristic. I still have that set but the vertical failed not long after she died in 2013. It also had other miscellaneous issues when it died. I have a feeling that set will be a bear to revive now.

    Now, here’s something you might find interesting since this more than likely had a Kingston timer in it. According to qsd-dan on AW, if you put a timer motor in from a early 80’s Maytag washer, you’ll increase the wash time up to 15 minutes since the 80’s Kingston timers run a little slower adding 30 seconds for every minute, a 90 second spray rinse, a 3 minute rinse. If you put in a gear set from a pre ‘65 Maytag, 50hz motor pulley, you’ll increase the OPMs (Oscillations Per Minute) from 54 OPMs to about 67 OPMs along with a 750 rpm spin speed. Thought I’d point this out since this happened to pop up in my feed.

    thanks for showing the trimlawn. i distinctly remember the throttle working, it would idle right down. our reo also had tow bar that would drag a reel mower on each side and i would walk in the middle of them never at full throttle because it was to fast. i would mow over an acre every week in under 2hrs.

    Now here’s something I learned about these dryers awhile back when surfing through the archives on AW and in the Maytag group I am in on Facebook, the commercial versions of these dryers in gas had a 30,000 btu heat output for quick drying times. Definitely would be faster with a 37,000 btu heat output, that’s for sure.

    I just always wondered does the full tub put a strain on the motor as it spins so slowly.. Doesn't the motor overheat? Or is there a clutch or some kind of bypass or something that lets the motor spin fast while turning the tub so slowly? I know if you bog down most motors they usually run hot and eventually fail. I mean obviously these washers are made to start spinning with a full tub slowly... but what keeps the motor from straining and overheating on such a slow rpm?

    • @richardhz-oi8px
      @richardhz-oi8px 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The motor is mounted on a little spring mount. Also, Maytag used special clutching belts designed to slip as the unit gets up to speed. I highly suggest to get a better idea of the brilliant engineering of these machines you watch a video someone else put up called "maytag 906 extravaganza"

    • @seana806
      @seana806 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here’s the Maytag 906 Extravaganza. Basically all Maytags from the late 50’s to 2006 operate this way. A shame Maytag is no longer around and I don’t really want to say this but in many ways were built better than the Speed Queen machines made currently. There simply hasn’t been a automatic washer made with the reliability or durability of a Maytag. th-cam.com/video/H1TQdEgS9z4/w-d-xo.html

    You sure that's a '65? Looks more '50s because they had the belt driven bakelite blower wheel and the rear of the drum turned too. I recall by '64 kenmores were like the present version, direct drive plastic blower, single belt, stationary rear.

    • @richardhz-oi8px
      @richardhz-oi8px 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely 1965, Whirlpool and Kenmore went to the new design in 1966. This was the very last of the old. In the 1950s they used v belts and pulleys.

    • @seana806
      @seana806 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since I virtually have the same dryer but in turquoise with a window, the design and style of the control panel came about in late 1962 and lived on until about 1964 since some of the TOL Whirlpool Mark XII’s used the same chrome piece around the timer but had a different lense for the lighted part of the control panel. All Whirlpool and Kenmore dryers built from 1961 to 1965 used this design which replaced the older series of Whirlpool built dryers from 1948 to 1960 that used a series of pulleys on the back, essentially a hybrid between the older and newer Whirlpool 29” dryer design since this uses the same blower as the older Whirlpool dryers built before 1960 but has a belt around the drum for the drum drive. In 1966 they went to the very design they are using and yes there has been a fee variations over the years but still the same basic design they have had since 1966. Probably switched to the current design they are using today since people tried to stuff multiple loads in these older Whirlpool built dryers later to find out they were still damp since the incoming hot air couldn’t make it’s way to the drum and went out the exhaust because of the 1” space between the drum and bulkhead resulting in long dry times. Another factor is the blower bearings on these dryers had a tendency to lock up if they weren’t oiled on a regularly or yearly basis resulting in snapped blower belts and burnt out heating elements.

      Unfortunately, that will never happen because of corporate greed. Reason why Speed Queen filed copyright claims on people who re-uploaded their videos is they simply didn’t want to admit they made a mistake, they finally admitted and gave in, in 2019 since they reintroduced the TC or classic series since the TR series was a flop, still a flop since it’s more water guzzling than the models that preceded them, didn’t clean as well, and last but not least were more expensive than the models that preceded them as well.
