Vintage Atlas Box Fan and Large 100w Drake Soldering Iron

- Estate sale finds. My father, is one of the last generation of plumbers who embody the true Latin definition of plumber, lead worker. He said that soldering irons like this were used for smoothing joints in lead pipe. Before electrical irons, gasoline blowtorches with soldering iron rests atop and un-electrified irons were used.
That's a great fan, nice startup sound, metal everything, and of course it's no wonder that it still works to this day! I've seen soldering irons like that, you need to make sure you ONLY grab that wooden handle otherwise you're in for some really nasty burns!
In the summer I think it might be put into a window to act as a whole house fan. It certainly has enough power for that application. The soldering iron will be replacing a Weller soldering gun that broke recently for heavy chassis soldering on vintage radios and television sets.
Great fan! I've got this exact same model, but in much worse condition. I'm currently cleaning it up and replacing the switch. The previous owner bypassed the switch and hotwired it on high. This fan does move a bunch of air!

Did you ever find anywhere where someone got the faceplate off the fan? The switch on mine just stopped working.
The inner ring around the fan blades removes, I had to replace the switch in mine a while back.

Top of the motor, they are small holes about the size of a dull pencil.
