    I frequented this laundromat from about 1986 thru 1996. That place looks the same except for the walls were either dark wood paneling, yellow walls, and up front the washers were all multi-color Speed Queen. And IIRC Huebsch dryers, also multi-color. Those Bendi-Dexters are STILL the same ones. That guy used to also own the bike shop next door, he used to fix and sell vacuum cleaners as well.... Chartucky Michigannn....

    I remember these machines as "Bendix Commercial" washers. The look and sound was identical to what you see except The lower half of the door was labeled "DOUBLE LOAD".

    This is just like the Norge machine at the laundromat I grew up at. Thanks for posting this. It was a nice throw back to my childhood!

    Those must be the final years of that defunct model of the Dexter WCA20. Those looked similar to the defunct Norge washers.

    Your laundromat has one of those speed queen extractors, I wash ours still did, that and the big Milnor triple load washers.

      @CrestwoodRocks 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Milnor still makes them but they have more sizes and are now cabinet styled and a new door style

    Those washers look great for the age .
    Did Dexter stop making those over 20 years ago ?
    Do those washers have transmission and dip stick ?
    Look like a Philco Bendix washer .

      I don't know the exact year, but they were discontinued about 20-25 years ago. They do have a transmission, they are the same design as a Philco-Bendix, Dexter was the successor after Ford sold Philco to White Consolidated Industries(now Electrolux). The commercial division was going to be shuttered, but the employees bought the factory collectively and used Dexter, one of the older and less used brands Philco acquired years earlier. These got their design from the old 36" wide Bendix Duomatic combo design built from 1953-58, these lack the condenser and heater ducts, the suspension, and drain pump(gravity drain into a sump - pump was available too, though). They are hard mount and have to be bolted to the floor. I'm restoring a 1954 Bendix Duomatic and these being relatively recent, leads to fair parts availability.

      Your washers look great .
      I had similar washers when I bought a laundromat over 20 years old , they are Philco Bendix ,they were not in great shape , color was yellow , some leak transmission oil , I got rid of them after I bought the store .

    • @richardhz-oi8px

      They're not mine, but I nearly bought one from the owner of the laundromat, he is slowly retiring them. He keeps them in tip-top shape, though.

    How were these one way tumblers with tangling ? It looks to me like the load is lifting and dropping just fine without tangling and knotting up and no need for reverse tumbling.
    It seems if you have a wider tub and enough lift you won't have a problem with tangling which this seems to do just fine at .
    I saw these same machines in the 70's when I was a kid but they were Philco Bendix double loaders with a porcelain tub instead of the Dexter's SS but everything else pretty much the same. I always liked the 4 baffle tubs. Kept everything moving.

      @richardhz-oi8px  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      They don't seem to tangle much at all. These are almost identical to the Philco-Bendix machines, when Ford sold the Philco appliance division to WCI, the employees at the commercial plant bought it from WCI along with the another legacy brand name involved with the sale, Dexter. WCI was going to shutter the commercial operation all together.

      Nice story. I knew that Ford had Philco but wasn't aware of the sale to WCI. So glad the employees bought them back as WCI ruined everything they got their cheapened hands on... ESPECIALLY FRIGIDAIRE!

      @@patcola7335 yeah they later on merged in with Frigidaire which today is now a part of Electrolux who also makes Wascomats.

      I have 1958 Bendix here in the UK, it only washes in a clockwise direction I don't really understand why machines have to wash in both directions, i have had the Bendix fully loaded a few times with bed sheets and bath towels nothing came out tangled and it all washed very well .😕 😕 😕

      hawker e.e.R. Speed Queens can only go 800rpm. That is miniscule compared to european washing machines which are able to go to 2000 rpm

      Now why can't we have front loaders like this for home use again in the US ?
      No need for reverse tumbling and plenty of water and still efficient.
      I recently used new Dexter equipped FL washers up in Massachusetts at a laundromat. They still use 4 vanes in the tub. Makes for very decent wash action.
