  • Has kind-of a dull roar to it. Better than the lack of insulation on the old Whirlpool which made a repeated "Woosh" noise as the arm rotated and sprayed the door. Sometimes it was a "woosh-clank, woosh-clank" if something inside moved.

    Great video and glad it's still working for you! My family comes from a small town in OK and there are a lot of old oil Barron houses that still have these installed in the basement bars and butler's pantries. Love exploring those houses because they're all time capsules of appliances.

    that's when kitchen aid by Hobart made a great dishmachine

      Hobart still makes great machines for the kitchen. However, the machines they make are only for commercial kitchens, not consumer kitchens.

    I had a portable KitchenAid KDI 20, and it cleaned circles around my newer WP portable!

    I'm going to build a house -- I'll put in a new Whirlpool/KitchenAid/Maytag/Amana fridge and range, but I want to hunt down a mint Hobart KitchenAid dishwasher. Bonus points if I can find one in stainless so it matches the rest of the appliances.

      We just got rid of our 4 year old Whirlpool gas stove, absolute junk, multiple service calls. Replaced it with a 1964 or so Roper gas stove. Whirlpool burned everything, Roper is perfectly consistent and even baking.

    Is this Kitchen Aid by Hobart machine still in service? If Hobart still owned Kitchen Aid, I would have considered buying either a Hobart Kitchen Aid or a Bosch, which I wound up purchasing. In its day, Kitchen Aid by Hobart was the top dog.

    My harvest gold KitchenAid superb was probably older than this one because it did not heat the water initially it would energize the element for water heating while it was washing it did a pre-rinse, second rinse, pre wash, main wash and two more rinses than the dry cycle.

      What year is your harvest gold KitchenAid dishwasher? I just wondered. It probably is about the same age as me. I'm 46 this year.

      @@sharipuckett6923 I don’t remember but I think in the 70s late 70s we moved to this house in 1969 we had an even older KitchenAid dishwasher then that my parents had taken from the previous house and then purchase this one so I want to say late 70s early 80s

    I’m Housesitting and the homeowner has one of these …. I think the middle silicone or plastic bar that holds up the upper rinse propeller melted ?? Do you think there’s a way I could replace this middle part or just take it off?

      Are you talking about the blue hose between the wash arm and the back of the upper rack? Yes, those rot out after a few decades. It's part# 4171544

    That sounds _just like_ what a dishwasher is *supposed to* sound like! What year is that machine again? Apparently they used a very similar timer system in my 1990s KitchenAid Superba.

    • @richardhz-oi8px
      @richardhz-oi8px  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it is from the early to mid 1980s. I know that later Whirlpool bought KitchenAid from Hobart, for a few years they kept the design the same.

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah that's what I thought, with all that chrome and the labels stamped into it, definitely that was going away by the later part of the 80s. That machine might possibly very very late 70s, like late 78 or 79. Either wat, it sounds like a huge upgrade! And it also sounds like the dishwashers I remember, where they actually do some work!

      I know it is not from the late '70s, that was when the KDS-18 was made. The 19 eliminated heated drying for energy concerns and the 20, as this is, brought it back, albeit with a switch to disable it if desired.

      Interesting. I wish there was a way to prevent water heating. Mine does that as well, and while it always works, if there is exceptionally chilly water, or if the water heater has simply run out of hot water because we're doing laundry or something, it can take an inordinate amount of time to heat up. In all the years I'm always afraid it just won't know. I know of course to put the sink on there at full hot and let it chooch for a couple before turning on the dishwasher.

      @@jaykay18 Your KUDS-23 Architect Series has a completely different pump and motor system (Whirlpool Powerclean system instead of the Hobart WM-5 dishmachine pump) and the cycle design is totally different. Also by this time WP had changed the frame, dispensers and electromechanical controls from the Hobart design. In many cases WP's reworks were better but some Hobart design principles are better.

    Which year?

  • @ToddEdmondson
    @ToddEdmondson 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mine is not draining water inside - help. Checked filter on bottom, pressed cancel button in front, no water gets to sink. I hear clicks but never water coming out.

    • @richardhz-oi8px
      @richardhz-oi8px  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Does the drain valve solenoid latch and open up? These units have a one way motor and to drain out a valve is opened which allows the water to go out the tube instead of continuing to recirculate inside. Most modern DWs use a reversing motor.

      @@richardhz-oi8px I will have to check to see, it's sort of difficult to get under that thing and I may have to remove part of the floor (recently put in) to slide it out. Thanks, I love solving problems like this.
