      Hi mate, I just bought a cheap pair of cycling gloves from Amazon. I just wanted a bit of padding for the rope based stuff in particular, but wanted my fingers free to open gels, grip climb holds etc. Where's the race?

      I have another video which is all of the obstacles from the beast if you wanted to check it out. Not much difference in terms of obstacles, but long portions of running in-between. If you can get your running endurance up, you can pick up a lot of time on people!

    A real rollercoaster there mate. That triathlon with the huge swim must have been gruelling 😬 I'm glad your story had a happy ending. Setting off at a sensible pace sounds like the easiest thing in the world but it takes some doing to let people just run away from you at the start when you're feeling good.

    • @IRunDaily
      @IRunDaily หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, that triathlon was grim! I went back the next year and just did the swim as part of a relay team. It wasn't much better, but we did win! It's definitely a good skill to develop - letting people run away from you. The majority of people go off too hard, so you'll likely see some of them again at some point. And if you don't, they're quicker than you anyway and there's nothing you can do about that! Break the race into four 10k chunks. If I was aiming for a four hour marathon I'd run the first 10k at 5:50-6:00 pace, then increase by 10 seconds for each subsequent 10k. For the last 2k, go as fast as you can! I was a minute slower at the halfway mark of marathon 8 vs marathon 7, but finished nearly 10 minutes faster in marathon 8. It can work when it all comes together!

      @@IRunDaily THAT is awesome advice Ian!!!! I'd never thought of that pacing but now you say it, it's so obvious!!! My next I'm going for 3h30... what pacing would you recommend please Ian???

      @@bev9708 I'd go out at 5:10-15 for the first 10k, then 5:05-5:10 for the next 10k, then 4:55-5:05 for the third 10k, then 4:45-4:55 for the last 12k. Save your glycogen, let your body absorb the carbs you consume in the first half of the race, then pick people off for the second half!!!

    what if i bought second hand?

    • @IRunDaily
      @IRunDaily หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know to be honest. I know that they disabled the old watch so it can't be used anymore, which I do think is a bit wasteful! If you have a second hand Coros, I guess it will be whether it's in warranty or not. You'd need the booklet and the purchase date to verify.

  • @markg99
    @markg99 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'm still a bit confused about pace versus performance to be honest mate. Is the performance goal just to have a good race at whatever pace you think you can manage on the day? My AI coach currently thinks I can target a 3:45 marathon in November 😅 I'm not quite convinced yet, but I guess we'll see how the training goes.

    • @IRunDaily
      @IRunDaily หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, I realized as I was putting this together I was contradicting myself because I just don't think the two are mutually exclusive! I suppose it's about the difference between running within yourself and finishing strong and comfortable, but knowing you maybe had a little more to give and being ok with that versus picking a time you would like to achieve and blindly training and reaching at that pace even if it's not congruent with your fitness or ability currently. The Coros plan gives a window of 30 minutes (3:15-3:45), so I can still follow the structure and run within the pace bands. So a fit day may be closer to 3:15 pace and a not so for day would be 3:45. On race day itself, I will go out at 3:45 pace and build into it. I'm not going to be in marathon PB shape, but I want to have a good race to motivate me on to the next one!

      My Coros tells me I'm in 3:08 marathon shape. I wish. Much best mararhon performances came off, well, focusing on performance. Execute the race as well as I can on the day. Beat as many people as I can. The result will then be what it will be.
