BEST FLASHERS for MY 2024 Salmon Season
มุมมอง 2.7K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hey guys and WELCOME back to another Shop Talk vid here on the Madison Angling Channel! THANK YOU ALL for taking the time to check out my videos - I don't do this for the money - I do it in the hopes of making even just a handful of people a little more efficient on the water. In this video I recap my BEST FLASHERS from the 2024 salmon season on Lake Michigan. Of course, I'm just one boat on a ...
FLASHERS & FLIES FOR SALMON - The Quick and Dirty
มุมมอง 6K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
HELLO and welcome back to another episode of SHOP TALK! In this week's video I give the "quick" and dirty rundown on flasher/fly setups for Great Lakes salmon fishing. I get a lot of questions about what they are, what colors to use, how long to make your leaders, ect - so I figured I'd do a basic rundown on the how, what, and why's of basic flasher/fly setups. KEEP IN MIND - this is all just o...
My FAVORITE Mid-Summer PANFISH RIG!!
มุมมอง 56K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
HELLO and WELCOME to another SHOP TALK video! This week, I'm running through my FAVORITE mid-summer panfish rig of all time - the "Monona Rig" or "Gene Rig", or "100 different names for the same thing" rig. Although it's super simple, this rig consistently puts big, sometimes finicky, panfish in the boat. Live bait, plastics, even trout flies work great on this rig, and we catch so much more th...
Small Boat Summer Kings on Lake Michigan
มุมมอง 7K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
HELLO and welcome to another salmon vid here on the Madison Angling channel! NO - we didn't have a banger of a morning, but we had a few hours to kill and I wanted to see if we couldn't get a couple of big bites from some mature kings. It was probably one of my least productive salmon trips this season, but I figured I had better do something with the footage - plus the big one we did get was p...
FIRST KING OF THE SEASON - Salmon Slam on Lake Michigan
มุมมอง 4.2K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
Hey everyone! Welcome back to another spring salmon video! In this video I head out with my buddy Tristan and a couple of his grad school colleagues to go smash a bunch of May coho on Lake Michigan, as well as trying to put the first king or two in the boat for the 2024 season. I apologize for how scatterbrained and weird the video is due to basically all of my cameras malfunctioning - pretty t...

HELLO and WELCOME back to SHOP TALK! Now that we're back to a normal (ish) spring here in the Midwest, I figured it was a good time to share my TOP 5 spring bass baits for Southern Wisconsin. Make Your Own STINGER HOOKS - CHEAP!!
มุมมอง 3.8K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
HELLO people of the internet! Welcome to another "how to" video. In this week's video I break down how I tie up my own stinger hooks for hair jigs. They are such a simple insurance policy, and have saved many of my guide trips (and tournament days) over the years. With a few minutes, some basic materials, and this video (or any of the myriad of others that exist), you can save yourself some mon...
Snappin' Hair Jigs for Green Bay Walleyes 🤘
มุมมอง 2.8K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
SORRY FOR THE WIND NOISE! HELLO and welcome to another video here on the Madison Angling channel! In this video I head out on Green Bay with my buddy Jim for a quick morning run to chase down some pre spawn walleyes with hair jigs in shallow water. No, we didn't catch any giants (although later in the day was another story), however I wanted to share a quick "how - to" since I get a LOT of ques...
Bait Not Suspending? FIX IT - Here's How! SHOP TALK!
มุมมอง 5109 หลายเดือนก่อน
HELLO and WELCOME to another episode of SHOP TALK! How many times have you pulled a new "suspending" crankbait out of the package, got it wet, and found out it in fact does not suspend, but rather floats? I have, A LOT. You have a few choices - use it anyways, throw it in a dark corner and never touch it again, OR FIX IT! It's easier than you think! With the simple addition of some Storm Suspen...

มุมมอง 6K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
HI EVERYONE! This video is a long one, so buckle up (I promise it's worth it). WELCOME to PART 2 of turning bullets into hair jigs. In this video I run through my process for tying up hair jigs for walleyes. Is this the only way to do it? NO! However, this method has worked well for me for many years, and I hope it points you in the right direction for coming up with your own process. Making yo...
Turn BULLETS into BAITS!! HOW-TO MAKE YOUR OWN HAIR JIGS - PT.1
มุมมอง 1.6K10 หลายเดือนก่อน
HELLO and welcome to another episode of SHOP TALK! Hair jigs are hands down one of my most productive spring baits for walleyes just about everywhere, but especially on Green Bay. Being someone who likes to tinker and play with tackle, naturally I like making my own jigs - in this case, literally out of bullets. How man people can say they caught a walleye with a bullet? Well, if you follow alo...
Why Don't More People Talk About It? TOW VEHICLES - SHOP TALK
มุมมอง 63511 หลายเดือนก่อน
Welcome to a little different episode of SHOP TALK! Have you ever noticed how most people make videos about their boats, electronics, rods/reels, but rarely about their vehicle they use to tow all of that stuff to the water? As a full time guide I depend on my tow vehicles - without which I can't do my job. I figured I would give the rundown on the 3 trucks I've owned since I started guiding fu...

You have to send them the note paper your doing the math equations on or just the map?
@@evresort yes, everything they send you in the envelope has to be returned, including the note paper
great video. can tungsten jigs be powder coated?
@@keaganstewart3523 great question! Yes, you can powder coat tungsten exactly the same way as lead.
Just got myself a couple with the hole covers. Can’t wait to use them!
Are you running the kicker and steering with the front trolling motor?
@adeptdetailing1567 yes! I set my terrova on 4.5 to 5 for thrust and run the auto pilot - using the kicker to push the boat
So much has changed since running Salmon O Rama out of Racine over 35 years ago. Mono for everything with steel leaders still works for a fraction of the cost on everything.
I have a tip for you when you powder paint your jigs so you have clean hook eyes. I buy sample packs of 2 m/m shrink tube off ebay. I cut 1/4" lengths with a scissors. I'll cut as many as I have jigs to paint. Then I slip the shrink tube over the eye of the jig, heat the lead head with a heat gun, dip the head in the fluid bed and hang that jig to cool. When I get the next one painted I grab the shrink tube of the previously panted jig between my thumb and fore finger and gently pull the shrink tube of exposing the clean hook eye. Of course afterward I bake the painted heads in a cheap convection oven to cure the paint completely. Pulling the paint covered shrink tube off while still warm but not hot enough to burn our fingers is ideal. After they cool completely and the paint hardens you need to scrape the shrink tube off with a pen knife blade and sometimes the paint chips around the eye.
Are they safe to eat ?
thanks for the explanation. I'll be grabbing a couple of these for those warmer days.
Great video fellas and explanation
THANK YOU VERY INFOMATIVE FOR ME , JUST LEARNING.
Thanks
Did this one, and if you fish the Turtle Flambeau alot you are liable to need this repair also, but learned some things. #1 take a picture of the INSIDE WIRING IN head when you first get the top off. #2 if possible when disconnecting the wires leave them clipped in place #3 i WOULD GRAB TWO PAIRS OF PLIERS TO DISCONNECT THOSE QUICK CLIPS, as I have arthritis in my hands and even without arthritis, those buggers were tough to disconnect on mine, though it appears easy peasy on his video #4 be very gentle with the screws and bolts holding the head covers together as I believe these are designed as single use applications. If you force them back in or screw them in with excessive zeal, you will probably strip out the plastic/nylon and then you have a problem. #5 deep 10 mm socket? didn't work for me when I tried to replace the star washers, bring the next size bigger in either inches or mm to get that star washer back on and you need someone strong to brace the back of them when you tape them in. All in all video very informative and at $100 an hour shop time, and shop estimating $400 total cost, i had $160? invested in the housing shipped in 3 days, and probably $20 invested in trinket hardware and gas, as I ended up taking 3 trips cross town to Lowe's to get right size bolts, and star washers and one nut I needed, as I was missing a couple the right size on the side shields(FROM PREVIOUS UNHAPPY INCIDENTS WITH STUMPS AND ROCKS).
and I should have read the comments before starting, it helps to have a second person there one a couple of steps.
Question for you, I'm wanting to start using these flys though it's November 14th,. All the videos I see, people are fishing the flys in the spring, do they work as well in the fall?
I've tied and fished Marabou jigs for 30 years with big success on rivers and lakes in Minnesota. Long time friend that moved away years ago recently tied Buck Tail jigs and has been swearing how good they are for 3 years now ... I tried Purple Bucktail jig head with Purple feathers and some kind of Flashbou and absolutely Smashed the walleye and huge small mouth bass on the Mississippi!! Will be tying bucktail jigs this winter!! Great video as you tie very close to how I tie Marabou. Minor adjustment to material used ... Thanks a ton for this video. <><
thank you for the video. very helpful
Another great video. I’d like to see how you set up the taddle flag. Took me a while to figure out a setup to detect when those 12” walleye hit. Hate dragging around a dink when you know there are bigger fish down there
Great video thx!! I run 8# braid with 8# Floro. I have never tried that wire leader. We catch a lot more Pike than Walleyes. We also always fish all day and quit at 5:00-5:30. Is the bite always way better after dark? The best bite is always best at dark but then shuts down. Maybe we need to stick it out this trip. Thanks!
Great video. I’m near Lake Ontario, might have to try this out
I was gonna get the quick strike rig and big suckers, I'm gonna try this light method too.
Funny, I was fishing a similar rig but much larger for flounder in puget sound. Sometimes it seems like you run into a rig or style that is counterintuitive, but you can't argue with results and it seems like it's a great way to challenge your assumptions and learn.
Thank you for this video! It saved me a ton of money bringing the trolling motor to a shop to fix!
Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing.
Wow you are a winner boss excellent video that was the reason motor getting hot
Having the same problem iam leaning to the poppet valve
You talk to much
@rodneyschumann9817 you used the wrong "too", lol.
Can a person put the flag release on the mini board?
Will we get a signal when it’s overcooling
fouled spark plugs
The heads will always be warm to the touch
where can I get the wickes dodger (your favorite) and martie graw peanut fly??
Just watch a video two days ago because I had an overheat issue at a low idle. Just wanted to say your explanation was absolutely perfect. Answered all my questions and I was able to fix my problem. It was the poppet. I am running a 2000 Yamaha 152 stroke Lol I put the pop it in backwards which intern wouldn’t allow it to open up. I wish I would’ve watched this video before I ordered a new impeller and thermostats but thank you very much. Video was super informative.
I don't have any walleyes in my area (Southern NJ) but I think these flies should work great for my local largemouth bass and chain pickerel! They don't get really big, and the size and profile would probably be just about perfect!
Megatron has been a killer on the north shore of lake superior too.
So I can just run divers if I don’t have down riggers was thinking divers and torpedoes I have a 16 Lund deep v an wanted to know what all I needed to catch fish on calm days
Have you used a white double slick? How's it compare to the crush?
the best ones always make me wonder is it because i always pull a white double crush and a chrome/chrome flashers well. sometimes i think you can pull almost anything and eventually you will get a bite. every year i say i'm going to write down hours pulled with different rigs and never get to it. but my best would be the white double crush with a homemade sort of little boy blue glow fly
Love the content, thanks for helping us guys that are learning!!
Did you do any jigging for salmon?
Can you do a vid of a walk around of your boat and how it’s set up for salmon?
Thanks i will have to check my mercury 150
Hate to say, but I'd throw them back. There are too many toxins and pesticides for your gut and liver. Just saying. Peace
Good thing we released every single one 🤘
❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
100% agree all you need are dipsy divers they are also my best depth achieving tool. I have came to this conclusion that they are my best because i know exactly where they are in the water and i bet if you took a little more time running your stuff into the bottom of the lake the depth "they are suppose to be" you would find you might be 5-10 off with your lead and copper lines those diver curves are only getting you in that range especially if you go .2mph faster with wave surges or thermoclines its especially worse if you are erroring deeper people say salmon with dive down to hit your stuff but it seems like a rarer occurrence then coming up an extra 15ft
such a great video!!! I am for sure going to subscribe!!!
Fantastic video! I fish similar to this in my neck of the woods in Indiana. That’s a lot of fun!
Dude... You rock... THANKS for the detailed overview.
Thx to guys like you willing to take the time out of your day to no advantage to help others. Having sames issues. Hats off!
Awesome video !! 👍👍
I just picked a guys ice fishing gear and he had a swish-rod beeper pole made in Tomah, WI. This thing is pretty cool. Takes a 9v battery and beeps and lights up when you have a bite.
