Just had a small treble in my thumb about a month back. Tried pushing it through. Wasn’t gonna work- very painful. My buddy’s nephew used that exact method you showed and it popped right out with little pain. Very useful vid - thank you!
I had to remove a hook from my Cats paw when I was a 10 year old kid by myself. I had to push it through and cut it worked great for the Cat but she had claws and destroyed me while biting the shit out of me , I was bleeding bad. You give great information on all your videos! You are the Best Fisherman I know. thank you!
finally got to watch this video - very informative and well done - kind of felt the pain the pigskin puncture would cause on a person - Tom K used this method perfectly to get a hook out of my hand - really like your disclaimers
I've used a stout hemostat to perpendicularly lock on to the bend of the imbedded hook. Twist the shank down toward the skin while sharply jerking the hook out. Useful if you're alone and can't utilize two hands due to hook placement. I store a hemostat right next to the hook cutter.
Your right about it being surprisingly difficult to push the point back out through the skin. I had a buddy push down on both side as I pushed the hook through. It made a little pop noise when it came through and I sniped it off and out it came.
Got one in the inside middle finger once went all the way in treble got lucky wiggled it a few times and it came right out thanx for the video I'm gonna remember it well
I hooked a JB TopRaider on the side of my hand (The karate chop portion of the hand) while fishing with my wife. I refused to have my lure added to the Wall of Shame at the Minocqua Hospital. The hook was past the barb, so my wife used a jackknife to cut a small slit in the skin. She then pulled like the dickens with a plyers. I really didn't feel any pain but my wife almost passed out. I then went back to Muskie fishing.
I caught a small pike while musky fishing. It flopped just as I was grabbing it and buried a large spinnerbait hook deep in my forearm. My buddy cut the hook off the bait and wrapped it in gauze. We went to the ER in Hayward where I waited for a couple hours. The entire time trying to hold my arm over my head while it throbbed. When the doctor finally came in and unwrapped the gauze, she exclaimed, "Oh my! I'm so sorry! We thought you had a little hook in you. I've been working in the Hayward ER for years, and we take hooks out of people every single day, but that is the biggest hook I've ever seen." They had to look around for awhile for a tool big enough to cut it. They finally got a bolt cutter from security I think. My entire forearm turned purple afterwards.
