hey thanks! on the fx3, you crop the sides to get to 2.39:1. on the Alexa, you crop the top and bottom very slightly to get to 2.39:1. hope that makes sense!

I like the GJs. they are also 1/8 the cost. I took the GJ 50 to Italy and was very happy with the images. took it everywhere I went and got really good looking stuff. I am not a fan on pincushion, which the GJs have. the mercury obviously do not. but it's an easy fix to get the GJ back to barrel distortion in resolve. overall I like both.

hey thank you 😂😇. "fx3" shot was shot on the Alexa but scaled to be what it would be if it was shot on the fx3. every shot in here was on the Alexa mini lf, besides the webcam shots lol. I do not know Dylan, maybe I will look for him!

Yes unfortunately. It is possible the camera was cold as I just turned it on. But this is something I need to look into. I’ve seen it before, but only sometimes.

Yes! I’d put the checker in both scenes. You don’t have to use the checker for every scene and I don’t really use it outside much, but you definitely can.

@@BlaineWestropp1 I'm on a budget and I saw that it's about 90 dollars. Is it worth the 90 dollars for a budget or is there another one you would recommend?

Any of them will work. You could get the mini. $90 is pretty good though, I got mine for like $130 😭

That’s cool you got the first 1 or 2! What do you find difficult about correcting pincushion? When the shot is not zooming it’s quite quick in resolve or after effects.

​@@BlaineWestropp1Oh I meant to say that pincushion distortion is easily corrected, but it's the only characteristic that I dont like/find objectionable with the lens. Totally agree it's an easy fix in post; distortion is probably one of the lens issues that is most cleanly fixed in post. Though with zoom lenses that don't send focal length metadata to the camera, you're kinda forced to correct it by eye and can't really correct that programmatically.

Hey thanks! And yeah typically you will see more pincushion on the longer end of zoom lenses. Even on spherical.

Smallhd cine7 on camera, and a smallhd focus7 in my hands. Both have teradeks built in. An amazing combo and I bring them everywhere even when not shooting on my camera.

Not reverse from all others. Cooke anamorphics have pincushion distortion. Some of the newer anamorphic lenses have pincushion distortion. Some of the old classics (outside of Cooke) have barrel distortion. I prefer barrel but if I ever shoot on lenses with pincushion, including spherical, I’ll bend it to barrel in post!

How are you bringing down your exposure? One approach, like in this video, is to over expose and bring down in post, and one approach is to shoot at a low ISO. If you go with the first approach you should bring down your exposure via mapped HDR global wheel, and then sometimes I’ll bring up the shadows a bit in the curves. Gotta finesse it. Also shooting at lower iso will give you more range in the shadows, which may fix your contrast issue, just need to light accordingly. It’s easy to shoot in bright light, harder to nail it in the dark.
