better pov camera test / barefoot on snow, december 2024
early december, -6°C. today i'll do the second outdoors test of my pov camera while taking a barefoot walk on a roller/ski track nearly at sunset time on a sunny winter day. weather was really nice and surprisingly snowless, and the test didn't fail as badly as the first one, but there still was a catch.
while the first test was ruined by the recording app in my phone, all the issues i faced in the second one were related only and exclusively to the camera itself (as i found in later days), which clearly means they can't be fixed so easily. well, i guess in theory they could be fixed, but it would require a firmware fix for the camera which most likely will never appear. still, the edited video looks _almost_ okay to me, provided this camera is really simple and cheap. yet i must admit it just can't _reliably_ capture a video at 1080p resolution no matter it was clearly announced that it should be able to do so.
contents:

    Good test for the camera. Good results overall. Lighting helps the image quality, when in the low light areas sharpness suffers. Audio was ok but nothing special. The stuttering remains the biggest fault. I enjoyed the video and your commentary a great deal. Was also nice to see the bridge again. Light powder snow on top of slick ice is often more slippery than the ice alone. On a bike it could result in a bad fall. Thanks for uploading and re-testing the camera. Take care.

      in this video the snow on the road felt like it was rather half-melted into ice, not just poured onto it, so it didn't feel slippery at all. but yeah, i recently saw the precise example of light snow powder lying on top of slick ice, with some prints suggesting multiple people have managed to slip over there.

    That is an awesome way to overcome any fear of judgement. Each barefoot walk in public builds confidence. The dairy and frozen food areas do have the coldest floors but not like winter snowfooting. What was the special bread you were seeking ? uh, i agree those floors don't feel like a real snow, i meant in summer they just felt so unexpectedly cold that it reminded me of snow in temperature. as for the bread, it actually wasn't a special kind, just an unbranded version of a wheat bread made on the very same factory as one of the branded varieties but costing a third less than that. some western brands have managed to change their names here (some of them did it very slightly though), while others haven't bothered at all it seems.

    The best way to get your feet to adapt to hotter temperatures is the same as with cold: just do it! Take a walk on asphalt in the middle of the day. Avoid the shade. If a light is red, stand there until it turns green, don't keep lifting your soles off the ground to cool them. You'll get used to it. The skin will toughen, plus your brain will learn to ignore the signals. Humans walk barefoot in deserts.

The last time You found really much more grip. Pity that You didn't try the slope where the children sled. You might have made it!!! I know worry...I know Your problems... my feet are as smooth and slippery as yours... doesn't it help you to sometimes use your toes to find something to hold on to? Keep it up!

      actually, the other day i also tried to climb up that big slope straight as well, but it wasn't very interesting nor spectacular, to me at least. it's just an inclined empty space after all! so i believe that going by a steep path near the trees instead should look a little more exciting for the video. and i can't remember if i ever put any special emphasis on clinging with my toes, but sometimes it more or less works out by itself i guess.

    Your powers to keep from freezing have increased a great amount. I think in bright sunshine you will not need to bring shoes at all. Be cautious undressing in public. You don't want any problems with authorities. Even a false accusation may haunt your future options. Impressive snowfooting and cold endurance. Hope you gain confidence as your feet gain strength and toughness. (will watch for unedited upload)

      i feel all my "cold resistance" somehow works well only when temperatures rise even a little but above zero, like it was this time. during the previous months, in winter, i was totally unable to walk barefoot for such long distances, but march appears to be very different. as for authorities, we don't have very strict laws on this as long as you stay away from residential areas and, um, keep your underwear with you.

      well, this time the only really slippery place on my way turned out to be the small hill near the bridge in the forest, and almost nowhere else. in the upcoming video however there will be much more of this probably due to slightly higher ambient temps that day. but yeah, everything still went fine nevertheless.

      hi. actually i don't think i'm doing something special - in the end, just anyone can do the same. after a little training, probably, still it isn't hard anyway. though, well, excessive shyness would always be an issue when you're in public. but which kind of advice you suppose i could give?

      Hey thanx for answering. More about how to start basically.

    • @fetterlesswanderer
      @fetterlesswanderer ปีที่แล้ว

      are you interested in winter barefooting specifically? well, first you need to choose a proper place for that. walking barefoot on well-trodden paths is multiple times easier (and much less cold) than trying loose, unpacked snow. and yet snow should be clean enough there. stomp your feet if snow still gets stuck in between your toes, it helps a lot to quickly get rid of it - it's always very cold when it melts on your skin. and... well, just walk. really. start with only 3-5 minutes, and walk all the time, don't stand still. the closer ambient temperature to 0°C, the easier it will be. if you feel you're freezing, it's a good sign to end anyway. just listen to what you feel. and in time you'll be able to walk for a longer distances. yet, all this depends very much on weather conditions, in a strong wind and severe cold even on my third year of snowfooting i'm not able to last longer than same ~5 minutes without freezing my toes.

    • @miguelperezpalmero5138
      @miguelperezpalmero5138 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like barefooting anytime anywhere but in winter in the snow it looks like a big challenge and I like it. What’s the longest you could make it?

    • @fetterlesswanderer
      @fetterlesswanderer ปีที่แล้ว

      well, i guess the walk where i made the full circle around the roller track is still my longest one to date, it took me almost 3/4 hour to complete ( and i was recording it: th-cam.com/video/5b-zYpotkI8/w-d-xo.html ). however... actually it might be considered a bit of cheating. yes, technically there still was snow everywhere, but it was almost spring, sun was shining, air felt almost warm, and, what's most important, since it was around zero temperature snow didn't stick to my feet at all (and was almost melting instead). all that made relatively easy to continue for such a long time. so i'm sure i won't be able to repeat the same in, for example, december.

    Nice new video. Looks like you enjoyed this walk around in some fresh new snow. In my area some areas are plowed village sidewalks and commercial parking areas. Main roads are always first priority. Recreational trails may get packed down by walkers or runners and some are used for cross country skiers. The anti ice chemicals and rock salt are used alot. Dogs should avoid it as well as any one brave enough to barefoot on snow and ice.. Always fun to see your content Thanks for sharing

      basically this video was age restricted by youtube from the beginning for no apparent reason (yeah, walking barefoot in nature definitely should be 18+!), but several months later restrictions were suddenly removed (and i did nothing for that). and then, after another half a year, they no less suddenly were put back in place, so as of now it's age restricted again. what's going on, youtube? you have nothing else to do or what?

      thanks for your reply! for now it's been almost a week of strict sub-zero temperatures, so most small lakes and ponds around has frozen pretty reliably i guess. but this one is a bit special since on its northern side there are few underground sources which makes it never freeze even during the coldest winters. its other sides however should be no different from other water basins... still i prefer to look at our local fishers before stepping there.
