TH-cam's oldest senior citizen here (I am 78 as of 2024) 😇😇😇. Easy listening was mainly vocals from people like Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Nana Mouskouri, Perry Como, Matt Munro, Mel Torme, you get the drift as in my generation there were over 100 singers in this genre. There was also instrumentals from groups like Percy Faith (there are also too many to list here). At least until the 1970's the weekend NBC radio show Monitor stayed within this genre when they played a record, you appear old enough to have been a kid during that time period and probably listened to Monitor in the car with your parents or grandparents during the weekend when going somewhere.

All I saw in video was outside of old shack.

So, I'm confused. He says there is no radio station there. The video title says "defunct". Then he says there is a transmitter there that is being used. So, which is it? Maybe we have a terminology problem. Some people think of the radio station as being the studio where the disc jockey plays records and talks into a microphone. But, that does not have to be located where the transmitter and antenna/tower is. In fact, for most stations these days they are not. Lots of small stations are run remotely and play material produced elsewhere. So, is this location broadcasting an AM or FM radio signal? Is it being used as a relay point for broadcast or some other communications service? Searching the Venango County Tax Assessors site shows the land is owned by SEVEN MOUNTAINS MEDIA FAMILY LLC, who bought it Jan. 4, 2023, with a reference to FIDELITY COMMUNICATIONS INC.

I remember growing up in the 50s and 60s , seeing the radio station's remote broadcasts at local businesses and events during the glory days of rock n roll! I still live here and miss those days! WOYL did exist for a while, after a brand new station was built down town, there was a new studio in a plaza space during the 1970s redevelopment. Now, nothing.

I surely miss radio, the way it was in the 1950's and 60's. Something very special about it, and all that is gone gone gone. A big part was the DJ's. The banter, the personal connections to the towns they lived and in and broadcast from. Tim Nelson at WTIV in Titusville. Everyone one 'Party Line' from KKDA at night. By the way, 'easy listening' was Frank Sinatra, Herb Alpert, Doris Day and Dean Martin. No top 40. The real story of why all the local stations died, is economic. The small town local manufacturing businesses died. Not enough local advertisers to support local radio, TV and and newspapers. The jobs went to China, Japan, South Korea and India. Our areas we loved became the rust belt :( Seeing the old radio station facilities and all the stories do two things to me...they make me truly appreciate all you do, Joe, and they break my heart. I remember when Oil City was wealthy and thriving and vibrant and exciting. When Titusville was the same. As were all the surrounding towns. Before the drug addictions of locals living with hopelessness (the real cause of drug abuse), crime (no reason to steal when everyone willing to work had good jobs, cars, a home and savings accounts, and before the Feds sold everyone down the river to foreign countries and corporate greed. Ooops, sorry for the rant...ok, semi sorry.

Oil City is a Hellhole !! In the month of October , just 5 years apart , there were TWO cases of young girls being m*rdered by young males !! Also , an elderly woman r*ped and m*rdered by a man in his SIXTIES , while the woman was jogging !! Oil City is a little HELLHOLE.

Great video, Joe. Ahhhh, the Penn Theater and the Drive-in. Growing up in the 1950's and 60's was great. The Penn was a class act. Lots of velvet and comfort. It was one screen. And a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon as a kid. Or a Saturday night as a teen with a girl, working on getting your arm around her. Maybe a kiss. And the drive in, of course. Steamed up windows, bad sound and great food. I have no recollection of the Orpheum. I guess it was before my time.

You know. First. You forgot your into till the end of video. You lost a piece of the Penn Theater?!?! Noooooooooooooooooo! Any way. Last movie I watched was in 1992 and it was ET at the Penn and last one at Auto was Jerry Lewis. The Nutty Professor back in 82 good times ! Fun video !

I remember in the late 1950's, we bought a 13' fiberglass fishing boat in Union City at the MFG plant...one of the first if not the first company mass producing fiberglass boats. The thing was indestructible :) The manufacturing history of the entire NW PA area is legendary...back in the day. Was on one of those mountain vintage old time railway rides in the Santa Cruz mountains of Central California...and when I looked at the early 1900's steam engine, it was made in Erie. Nice video, Joe.
