Yes I totally said the call letters wrong. Just looked at my notes WOYL is the correct one. I got the letters switched didn't realize I said that Thank you for see that 🙏
I surely miss radio, the way it was in the 1950's and 60's. Something very special about it, and all that is gone gone gone. A big part was the DJ's. The banter, the personal connections to the towns they lived and in and broadcast from. Tim Nelson at WTIV in Titusville. Everyone one 'Party Line' from KKDA at night. By the way, 'easy listening' was Frank Sinatra, Herb Alpert, Doris Day and Dean Martin. No top 40. The real story of why all the local stations died, is economic. The small town local manufacturing businesses died. Not enough local advertisers to support local radio, TV and and newspapers. The jobs went to China, Japan, South Korea and India. Our areas we loved became the rust belt :( Seeing the old radio station facilities and all the stories do two things to me...they make me truly appreciate all you do, Joe, and they break my heart. I remember when Oil City was wealthy and thriving and vibrant and exciting. When Titusville was the same. As were all the surrounding towns. Before the drug addictions of locals living with hopelessness (the real cause of drug abuse), crime (no reason to steal when everyone willing to work had good jobs, cars, a home and savings accounts, and before the Feds sold everyone down the river to foreign countries and corporate greed. Ooops, sorry for the rant...ok, semi sorry.
Loved the rant 👏 From all the stories I read your rant was spot on👍BEAUTIFUL I totally agree. Always look forward to your comment👍Easy listening Frank Sinatra , Dean Martin I should of ask my wife she loves those two guys. You sir are much appreciated 🙏
I remember growing up in the 50s and 60s , seeing the radio station's remote broadcasts at local businesses and events during the glory days of rock n roll! I still live here and miss those days! WOYL did exist for a while, after a brand new station was built down town, there was a new studio in a plaza space during the 1970s redevelopment. Now, nothing.
TH-cam's oldest senior citizen here (I am 78 as of 2024) 😇😇😇. Easy listening was mainly vocals from people like Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Nana Mouskouri, Perry Como, Matt Munro, Mel Torme, you get the drift as in my generation there were over 100 singers in this genre. There was also instrumentals from groups like Percy Faith (there are also too many to list here). At least until the 1970's the weekend NBC radio show Monitor stayed within this genre when they played a record, you appear old enough to have been a kid during that time period and probably listened to Monitor in the car with your parents or grandparents during the weekend when going somewhere.
I also noticed the song you played at the end. That is an example of easy listening from British singer Mary Hopkin. She didn't receive a lot of airplay in the States but Joe Lacina (may he RIP) used to play her song on his radio show from Chicago in the early to mid 2000's before ABC shut down their Timeless Classics satellite feed. Joe, Bud Buschardt and Eddie Hubbard from ABC were the last of a now dead breed of DJ, they used to control what was played on the radio and spin all of their own records whereas now everything is planned to the millisecond and all the "DJ" does is talk at the appropriate time.
Cool video joe, i know about this one, and been there. The effort and enthusiasm is appreciated. Thanks. Hopefully see ya out and about somewhere sometime, Peace.
When I was a tech rep, I had an account in Meadville. I remember listening to AM 1340 on my vintage Zenith "Royal 500 H" radio from the hotel room. Sad to see what it has become.
Old Skool, I have been subed for some time now. But I live in W.Va. and MT. Are you sure you want to come on down and say Howdy! to us? The Supernatural is very real out this way. (Note: MT is normal for the most part. Cowboys or Roughnecks, they ae the same for the mostly) 😁
I love all weird things crazy stories, strange places and a good peace of history I can dive into 👍 Thanks for watching and being subed love to travel and cover a lot of different content. That’s the goal for this TH-cam channel someday hopefully I can do that 👍
I am more concerned about the Luna Tick. They like to congregate around the Capitol in DC and state capitol buildings, though. More seriously, he appeared to be pretty covered up so any ticks that were on him should have brushed right off. He could have tucked his pants into his socks and wore a long sleeve shirt but other than that and not brushing off right before he entered his car he did everything right. I don't think any ticks got him. I am sorry that your wife ended up with an infection from a deer tick. I worry more about Lyme Disease but it is a puncture in the skin and depending on what was on the tick's stinger an infection is a definite possibility. I hope your wife gets better very soon.
I would like to have seen a look inside but since it is still being used for transmitter equipment it was probably for the best that he didn't force his way in.
So, I'm confused. He says there is no radio station there. The video title says "defunct". Then he says there is a transmitter there that is being used. So, which is it? Maybe we have a terminology problem. Some people think of the radio station as being the studio where the disc jockey plays records and talks into a microphone. But, that does not have to be located where the transmitter and antenna/tower is. In fact, for most stations these days they are not. Lots of small stations are run remotely and play material produced elsewhere. So, is this location broadcasting an AM or FM radio signal? Is it being used as a relay point for broadcast or some other communications service? Searching the Venango County Tax Assessors site shows the land is owned by SEVEN MOUNTAINS MEDIA FAMILY LLC, who bought it Jan. 4, 2023, with a reference to FIDELITY COMMUNICATIONS INC.
Yes, Seven Mountains Media bought Forever Broadcasting in 2023 ,but in 2009 Forever Broadcasting shut the radio station down that is when it became just a relay for Forever Broadcasting out of Meadville pa
@@oldskooljoesdailyjoe3734 Sounds like the place was bought just for the transmitter and no local programming was to be provided. There is supposed to be studio facilities inside the building for an emergency but that could be as simple as a board, a switch to go live and off of the satellite or microwave feed, a mike, a desk and a chair. More than likely the emergency studio facilities haven't been tested in decades.
The dish was by the building behind the chain link fence in the tall grass. It's really surprising how that place is in such bad condition. The grass was so high by the satellite and antenna it covered the base ,but it is up there.
Not really, but some stories I did I’ve found more info on. So decided to redo on the second channel and if a story I enjoyed doing give me a chance to revisit and do a new video. Most of them over there most likely I will never revisit. Plus people request videos to I’ve done to revisit not all the time but every now and then
if you would start doing live stream you would build up the viewing hours way faster and get monetized why you have a channel with video getting thousand in a week and less then400 Subscribers is a mystery to me , get your a cheap gimble, Dive your self Some where and walk and share the message . get your self a scooter or E bike roll around Talking you have a Good niche nice town with history it can work for you .
I agree 👍 The 500 subscribers live stream I'm going to do was always a goal of mine. I though if I ever hit 500 subs I do a live stream that's all that is ,but totally agree with you about do one before the 500th sub count hits. TH-cam basically requires 1k subs to do a live on the Channel, but there are ways around that 👍
Wasn't it WOYL?

At least no one stole the 200 ft antenna , while they were on the air , like they did in Alabama this past February .

Grove City College was the First License Radio Station in The US
Interesting 🤔
All I saw in video was outside of old shack.
I would like to have seen a look inside but since it is still being used for transmitter equipment it was probably for the best that he didn't force his way in.

Where is the satellite dish ?
Remote sites usually are fed by a C-band or Ku-dish or an STL if within 50 miles of the studio
