Hey fellow Bay Area dude! I'm delighted to have found someone reviewing K&L IB's. I've only have Dave & Co's employee reviews to guide me. While I trust their integrity, I haven't yet dialed in how my preferences overlaps with theirs. So having another review to look forward to is super helfpul. I made the decision late last year to finally buy into a few older whisky expressions (about 23/24yr to start, higher if possible) and try to get a sampling for my own library as cheaply as possible. So far, I've picked up a Dewar's 32 for a flat $150 from a Berkeley store, and the K&L 30yr North British Single Grain for the same price. I think the Mortlach 24 is definitely on my buy list at this point. Despite your praise for this Cragganmore, I'm still not a 100% on getting it. I'm resolved on the price, but I've been pulling away from sherry monsters as of late and finding more joy in more naked bourbon barrel expressions or just 2nd fill barrels/less active barrels. My question to is this: I probably have my fill of sherry barrel expressions currently and I'm not looking for another bottle that is just "another sherry bomb". THE one caveat is that my sherry bombs are all much younger. The closest thing I have to an aged sherry finished whisky is my Glenfarclas 21 which I would describe as being on the gentler side in a number of ways. the oldest true sherry bomb would be a IB Glengoyne 2005 Old P. 16yr K&L, a very sulfury 16yr Glenlivet K&L, and a Redacted Bros Linkwood 13yr K&L. Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks!
I would highly recommend the Mortlach as you saw from my review. Its sherried but drinks like a bourbon matured whisky. The one thing about aged sherry scotches is you start getting that refinement along with the cigar box/antique store notes. Price wise the Mortlach is the better buy!
Very nicely priced. I’m a big fan of those Hunter Laing bottlings. While I don’t need another bottle of whisky, I couldn’t pass this one up. Sounds delicious. Thanks Narbe. Still plenty of inventory left as of this morning.
Excellent review! I actually picked up a couple when it was at pre-arrival for 250$ a pop and opened one of them as soon as I got it and it was excellent. I plan to do a blind against some heavy hitters soon!
Sounds delicious. I've seen it and always wondered about it. Great score and good price. The story of how Hunter Laing evolved from Douglas Laing is interesting. Google it. Great review.
I almost died and went to hell when you said an old leather chair. Yeah let me get right on ordering this chocolate covered almond old leather chair whiskey.

Man I strongly dislike that they don’t ship outside of Cali!

Lots of people stop there when visiting LA or SF to shop.
