Motivation and Makers Block
This is a video I posted on Instagram a little while back after a prolonged period away from the workshop. Nothing flashy or scripted but it seemed to resonate with a lot of people at the time, so I have decided to post it here to.
Being on camera is not something I'm comfortable with, so putting this out there is not easy, but as today is World Mental Health Day I'm going to suck it up in the hopes that this video helps someone going through something similar.
Do you struggle with motivation as a maker or content producer? Is it something you feel coming and you have developed mechanisms to get you through it?
Let us know in the comments if you feel comfortable doing so. The more we talk out loud about mental health the better, and running small businesses and workshops certainly does have its ups and downs.
Take it easy.

    Good stuff, seems a shame you can’t buy a vice with a quick release “lever” manufactured in uk anymore? (The eclipse is apparently now made in China I believe)

      Loads of second hand vintage (and pre-modern Irwin era) Record vices on eBay mate. Cheaper and better than anything new anyway. It's just a shame none of them have the dog along with the quick release, but you can always make your own dog for it.

    Amazing job. What is the thickness of the MDF?

  • @jtreg
    @jtreg 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Very slick, but mine is insulated and has electronics underneath, removed from printer, safely away from heated chamber. Not going for looks but able to print in chamber ABS, polythene, nylon etc. All materials from scrap including £1 Perspex offcut.. apart from Iko Enatherm sheet. How much did you spend on all those tools? LOL - learn to use hand tools. Mine cost £20 and some screws and Tightbond..

    what's crazy is the amount of time and detail put into this, yet it doesn't have much R value, or exhaust, which is the main reason to make an enclosure. I took $20 of XPS foam and made a box, put a CPU fan and some ducting in the back, for a fraction of the time and money, and it's light weight

    @mikeparsonscc At 2:02 are you cutting a 1x6 and what is the 38, inches, mm? I'm trying to follow this to the 'T" but I'm a stumped on what size you did the bottom or if it even matters as long as I leave a 1" space to lay the horizontal boards along the bottom. Thanks!

  • @in2rock275
    @in2rock275 ปีที่แล้ว

    Make a groove on the inside of one of the legs and out the bottom before assembly to accept the lamp cord. Makes for a much neater appearance, especially if the cord is brown or translucent. You can cut the groove just wide enough so the cord is friction fit or cut it deeper and cut a small strip to cover the cord entirely. Otherwise, great build and appearance.
