    Keep an outer pot with moistened moss around it, for root cooling effects, and don’t overwater it. (Which is how I lost mine.😢). The roots like to be damp and cool.

    That bowl looks perfect Ina. I'm sure your plants will do well in such a set up. I guess a little slow release fertiliser in your pot can't do any harm. I look forward to an update to see how it's growing.

    Eu também moro em Londres e estou cultivando essas plantas mas as quatro que eu comprei de homebase, elas chegaram cheias de caramujos, então eu decidi replanta-lâs.. tanto as keikeizinhas quanto as orchideas mesmas perderam as raízes que foram comidas pelos caramujos. Todas estão totalmente desidratadas e enrugadas... sem raízes... é ano difícil pra minhas den nobiles 😢

    Well explained Ina. I've tried growing from a seed pod of a cattleya. Total failure of course, but fun to try it. I have a lot of crucifix orchids in the garden that constantly get pollinated and produce pods but I've never seen any new plants sprouting up nearby.

    • @oneorchidaday
      @oneorchidaday 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The crucifix seeds are probably all around, carried by the wind. It would be nice to find some seedlings nearby. I don't think my seeds will sprout but I just didn't want to throw it in the bin. If for a miracle something grows I will film it.

    Hi Ina. It's certainly been a tough journey with your cattleyas but I'm happy that you've finally nailed it. In my past orchid growing life I was able to grow catts well in my greenhouse but now I'm growing some orchids indoors and some outdoors, the best light is outdoors and of course there's not enough space for all the bright light loving plants. As with you I suspect that the grow lights I bought are not bright enough because I'm just not getting blooms ndoors and it's very frustrating. I'm glad you're getting all those lovely cattleya blooms for us to enjoy, keep up the good work and thanks for sharing this interesting video.

    H8 Ina. The question of fertiliser is often difficult to answer. I’m finding now that because I have most of my orchids in leca using the semi hydro, self watering system, that maybe the fertiliser for those orchids is not really suitable for the orchids I have in bark and hanging under the patio roof. I’ve taken the easy way out and use slow release fertiliser for the outdoor plants. As these pots don’t have saucers or outer pots, whatever I pour on them just runs through anyway, so I’ll stick with the pellets. Thanks for sharing an interesting session of Q&A.

      care to share what your care is like? Ive had them for two years now without issue. The one thing in winter is to not water them as often. I let them get crispy dry for a few days before lightly watering again. They survive snow in Japan and the blistering heat - the watering is key.

    you did well, the purple martin is a great phal, very vigorous and constantly in bloom once it gets going. I got myself a paph purpuratum from them half a year ago which is doing really well. In fact it was 2 in one pot and they are both doing really well. Then I got myself a Cattleya Tainan Gold beginning of the year which cost me £18 incuding the delivery! That was a bargain. If you look at spiceotics they have it in stock at the moment too but its £28 without delivery. Every plant from spiceotics has had bugs that I have ordered from them but every single plant I have ordered from the dark orchid has had bugs too. Just something we have to put up with I guess. Just don't ignore that fact... Hope they do well for you.

    They look really good plants - I’ll take a look as I’m also in the UK. I have a very small Phalaenopsis Stuartiana which came from spicesotic plants. It had three leaves but the bottom one fell off. The roots are healthy though not many but now it is throwing out a flower spike. Do you think I should remove it and hope it grows a bit now it’s ( a bit) warmer?

      know how you feel lori but if you can keep them alive for the rest of your life and they bloom every year, year after year they are erally good value. Easier said than done I know. Believe it or not there are people that purposefully trick people into believing complete lies on what orchids need which results in people losing a lot of orchids and concluding they are too hard to grow and not worth buying. It's a real shame there are people that do this. I have uncovered a group of at least 4 people by now that hang out on all the popular orchid forums and do nothing but. Anyway, they are well worth growing. I wish more people thought so. Please watch a channel called Ingram orchids and more to learn all they need. The orchid room is also good if you want to learn even more. But be careful about misinformation spread by many other channels...
