Good luck with getting rid of the pests!
I’ve found thrips, spidermites & aphids in my collection this week, so I feel your pains. . I’m just about to begin a pesticide regimen for all of my plants this week too , so I can totally relate to the huge task . And it’s like a game of plant Jenga having to move everyone around .
We will beat these little blighters & nurse the plants back to health for a summer of growing.

Hi Ina. Thanks for a very informative video. You’ve got me thinking now about all the marks and spots, particularly on my Oncidiums, and for the most part I’ve taken the lazy way out and shifted them outdoors, (out of sight, out of mind) because I just can’t deal with the problem of pests in my situation. The Phals are all healthy as are the few Dendrobiums I own. Zygos & Cymbidiums live permanently outdoors so they have to take care of themselves and then I have way too many houseplants and heaven help me if they get an infestation!

if I had an outdoor space, I might have done the same. It is so difficult to eliminate pests, and it is such a hurdle. I hope your indoor plants are doing well.

Ina, do you have access to Neem meal? It is the ground up remnants of the Neem tree, after it has had all the oils and usable properties removed from it. (It also comes in Neem cake form, before it gets ground into Neem meal granules.). I put a tsp of meal (or seed) per 4” pot every so often onto the top of the plant substrate. (Around the plant. It doesn’t have to come into contact with it.). I leave it until the next time I water and water it in. It repels pests, feeds plants with a small amount of nitrogen and B vitamins, and is a fungicide/pesticide/miticide. It is catching on quickly here in the States, due to its organic uses. It has a strong, earthy smell, so don’t be surprised by it if you get some. Neem oil is also being used, and I’ve seen it mixed in a variety of ways. I only add the smallest of drops plus a drop of detergent to a warmed quart sized spray bottle full of water to spray my plants in the morning. Be careful with thin leaved plants and their crowns. I’ve seen it added in that way to the old aphid treatment of baking soda, water and dish soap. I can’t promise you it will eliminate your troubles, but with routine use it should lessen them. It should also reduce your need for chemicals. Also I’m fairly sure, since it doesn’t have chemicals, your plants can’t build a tolerance to it. We will probably never get rid of our need for strong treatments, but this helps reduce our need for them a little. Best of luck in your plant treatments!
