    instead of marking our own seam, can we just use Smart UV Project?

    • @blenderbones

      That's a good question. Yes, but it tends to be a little messy. It is better to manually seam, so you can control where the texture joins are. This will minimize the possibility of the seam showing when rendering. We can always create a seam in a gap, under a detailed area, or around a nature seam in the model. I hope that makes sense?

    bump map are replaced by normals map for fine details years ago, it's mean normals map are superior and also you don't need bump map when you already have normals map. Yes you can combine bump map and normals map, but in the end we only need normals map

    • @JamesMiddletonDesign

      Yes, that is true and you raise a very valid point. I do prefer using normal maps. However, one trick I like to use (as you have hinted); 1. Use normal maps for the custom height information. 2. Use bump for the smaller, tiling detail. Win-win! Thanks for your thoughts.

    • @kaizu4914

      @@JamesMiddletonDesign yes you are right, bump map can easily working with for fine details using brush or procedural texture without the need to bake normals from sculpted high poly model which is very heavy. And as far as I know, bump map still have to be converted into normals map for readable in render engine. So if you have bump map and normals map, you need to combine them into 1 normals map, remove the need of calculating from bump map, therefore reduce graphics computing load and gain more performance, especially in Game engine.

    • @JamesMiddletonDesign

      @@kaizu4914 That's interesting. Thanks for your thoughts on this. It makes sense. After all, you can combine many normal maps. It's always good to refresh the way we do things from time to time.

    • @JamesMiddletonDesign

    Hey Blender Bones! Awesome tutorial, also your voice is epic. I have a quick texturing question. When I fill the holes with the "f" key, the texture has a stretched look to it. I didn't think much of it since I was going to use the stamp tool on top anyway. However, after baking when I got to the stamp tool step, any mark I made on the hole, was then painted many other places on the model. How can I use the stamp tool and have it localized to the part of the mesh I'm working on?

    • @blenderbones

      Sorry for the late response. I am glad you like my voice. I am not sure about it myself. I sound like a middle-class Bill Oddie - lol! The holes - you will need to unwrap any new holes. It is better to fill the holes before baking the textures. Regarding the stamp tool, I have to be totally honest, I am not sure. Perhaps another Blender person in the comments could shed some light on this?

I just seem to be getting nowhere , i have no money so cant afford all these paid courses at all. I really want to learn but i cant find anything that really teaches me all thelittle things. its all spread about through different versions , different channels that tell you half the story and ultimateley want you to pay $500 to buy their course that doesn tell you it either. its so hard finding a proper learning path , and if i do its 4 or 5 years old lol ..HELP! lmao where do i go ? what do i do ? and who do i listen to?
