    Do you just break off enough fins to get to your leak area ? Do you replace it when done ? Also the r410a has high gwp and was reading that r32 is perfect replacement for r410a with only 3rd of gwp and slightly better efficiency. Can r410a be replaced with that in every unit ?

    • @mechanicalenvironments
      @mechanicalenvironments 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right, this facility has a glycol adding system but that’s about it for water treatment/fill. The CGAM is a nice machine, this chiller went out on alarm for low water flow a couple times, of corse they reset the unit and keep it running… This system also has strainers under insulation all over the place that all need cleaned, but they don’t want to take the building offline to clean them all, as there is no redundancy in the pump room.

    • @EverythingHVACR
      @EverythingHVACR 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Due to vibration that coil will leak again. Probably ok for a while given you're in Colorado and AC season is very short there. I've attempted these coil repairs here in my area they rarely last that long. Nothing to support the metal refrigerant tube on that one side that you had to remove to make the repair. Due to that those tubes will vibrate during operation and rub themselves a new leak. I get it that this is commercial and tenant is probably renting this space so much cheaper to attempt a repair than buy a new condenser coil as those aren't cheap. But if it leaks again in less than 2 years, it may cost you this customer because they view you as wasting their money. Something for you to think about.

    • @mechanicalenvironments
      @mechanicalenvironments 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The customer made the choice on how they wanted to deal with this unit. We made them aware of the situation and risk that comes with this type of repair. We offered a new condensing unit, a coil replacement, and this emergency repair. They chose to go this route as they needed the unit running ASAP. Communication is key for this situation, as it's not my decision to make. It is ultimately the customer's decision. I made sure to leave the coil mount points intact to help support the coil and minimize vibration. I suspect leaks at the bottom of coils, like this, are often caused by aggressive cleaners not properly rinsed off, meaning the entire lower section is potently compromised and may leak again. This is something we made sure the customer is aware of. The restriction in the filter drier could also return, as it may be oil break down, compressor damage, or debris in the lines from install. But again, I can't force someone to buy a new unit. As the word moves deeper into A2l and SEER 2.0, the match up components are getting harder and harder to get, meaning repairs like this are going to be the only repair option for many customers here shortly. This may be colorado, but this unit is not gonna get any days off, we service the indoor agriculture space.

    • @AustinAirCo
      @AustinAirCo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mechanicalenvironments ah ok I would think indoor agriculture would have more money for things like this, but I digress it's a slippery slope. Nothing wrong then if you explained it to them covered yourself with other options you recommended. True that money is going to be a stickler going forward.

    Great job! Thanks for recording. 👏. I like to upsize my drier when possible when dealing with restrictions. Just like you would with burnout, you get more capacity to catch anything that may be left. Sometimes, if the oil is an issue, I've seen driers plug again after the initial repair.

    • @mechanicalenvironments
      @mechanicalenvironments 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That's a good call, gonna need to truck stock some larger driers before summer gets underway. We did made sure the customer is aware it may plug up again, but hopefully there good to go for a while

    I installed one with transducer and it seems to toggle rapidly between full and variable, is this normal operation with the transducer? Set at pressure and 300 psi

    • @mechanicalenvironments
      @mechanicalenvironments 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not really, but it could be working in spec. The 325a is a new product and sometimes they act really funny. When you get one that's acting weird you gotta troubleshoot it to get it to work right. I put a smart probe on the tee with the transducer so I can see what the device is trying to do. It "should" target your setpoint +/- 40 Psi or so. Tech support at ICM will help, they have a couple tricks for getting the difficult ones to work right. First off make sure the device remembers the pressure selection you made, I have had many that forgot the program after they were connected to high voltage the first time. Next, program the hard start down to zero, and see if that helps, than the min output voltage set up to 40%. Once/if it's working like it should, bring the hard start back up to around a second, if it will work that way. They are inconsistent out of the box, no 2 I have out there are set up exactly alike, I find a need to manually dial them all in.The discontinued ICM 333 was much easier to get set up.

    JCI P266....while expensive....is probably the best one out there for fan speed modulation. The carrier headmaster is also pretty good as well....i really like the carrier temp probe that is a circular clamp style. Pro tip....use some thermal heat transfer paste too...gets a slightly better reading. A quick way to determine sleeve vs ball....a sleeve will have in and out play on the shaft...a ball won't

    • @mechanicalenvironments

      There are plenty of of YT videos on removing the blower wheel, but I would caution against it. As the units age the evaporator coil is very susceptible to being easily damaged and cause of refrigerant leaks while trying to remove the blower wheel. The coil and blower can be easily cleaned without disassembly using the Port A Blaster low pressure sprayer along with a spit AC waterproof bag.
