Buying A Rural Property | Vancouver Island Real Estate
There are three critical factors to consider when buying a cottage on the lake, a cabin in the woods, or ocean-side real estate on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. These properties are not connected to municipal services and need extra scrutiny when considering a purchase. This means you need to inspect things like the heating, water, and sewage disposal systems, which have a high cost with which many buyers are unfamiliar.
Join Scott Lissa, a realtor who focuses on helping people like you relocate to Vancouver Island, as he walks you through the process of buying rural property and the most important factors to consider.

    As a long time resident of Nanaimo, and fortunately living on the outskirts of the city on my organic farm. i will say this about Nanaimo, it sucks. The downtown part of the city is full of drug addicts,and people living on the streets. Safe injection sites is the norm here. Now, you might say , why don't you move. Well, I don;t have a mortgage, nice. it is all farm land in the area I live in, nice. No street people, and we have a citizen patrol to keep our area safe. Sad, but , a must do. Having guard dogs on the property is also the norm, and we have four of the furry creature's. We use to years ago, have people shoot up on our street, no more. Thanks to our citizens patrol. So, the question remains. Would I move to Nanaimo knowing what I know? Not on your life. At 81 yrs old, I'd say I'm a little too old to pack up and sell the farm.

    Moved to Nanaimo in summer of 2016. It was a quaint, beautiful city on the water. Over the next 6 years things went downhill fast. The downtown turned into a real scary place with homeless drugged up zombies asking us for money, tents, filth and homeless everywhere. The crime in and around the downtown got bad too. Businesses were leaving the downtown like crazy and I don’t blame them. All the mayor does is blame the provincial government. Really sad because it used to be a nice place. Left in 2022 due to the issues (including affordability) that plague Nanaimo.

    I don’t care about the EnN but how about the street name changes - like 5 different Pine St or the intersection of Pine, Bruce, Fitzwilliam and Third. Also, I drive around Bowen park about five times a day either via Wall Street or Bush.

      Right! Or when two streets of the same name cross, like Metral Drive and Metral Drive. Or Dufferin Crescent and Dufferin Crescent. There's even streets that change their names 5 times, like Esplanade becomes Front becomes Comox becomes Bowen becomes Norwell becomes Jinglepot.

    To fly to Parksville or Qualicum fly Nanaimo or Comox, NOT Victoria. Parksville has more sunshine on average than Qualicum beach or Nanaimo. The Parksville walks along the beach have no smog as it does in Qualicum. The draw back is that are very few physicians on Vancouver Island since Covid rules, even though Maderna admitted to causing clots and strokes in UK courts. As a recent day tourist I thought Nanaimo a pretty town but somewhat sleepy. I visited on a Friday in May and had lunch at a restaurant on Commercial Street. We had finished our meal but were told they were closing (for the day) at 3pm. The wife shopped while I had coffee on the same street enjoying a table outdoors. After sitting for a while I noticed the tables/chairs being taking inside and was told they closed (for the day) at 4pm. The harbor area is pretty and I think you can hang out there past five pm though am not sure. Nice place to visit though doubt there's much nightlife.

    • @Nanaimore
      @Nanaimore 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I wouldn’t call this a city in the traditional sense. I find that this is a congregation of people that truly enjoy the outdoors opposed to sitting at a restaurant in a commercial district. Some of the best restaurants are found off the beaten path. Unfortunately, when people visit, they don’t know where to find these places. I’d highly recommend when you come back to check out the Crow and Gate. Please let me know If you’re looking for any other suggestions before you visit. I've lived and worked in both places, currently in Parksville. Both places have beautiful beaches, Parksville has more forested type areas if you're into that. There are so many drug addicts and vagrant type people roaming around parksville these days, it really seems to have become a major issue in the last year or two. Qualicum is a beautiful place, but it feels very isolated when you live there and I found myself leaving to nanaimo or other places to shop or find activities. For groceries you have one option, and that place has really gone downhill in the last year. I guess both places have their pros and cons depending on what you are looking for in a community

I'm guessing these are popular with seniors. Is there anything else I should be aware of as someone who's never lived in a mobile home or BC? Do mobile homes have septic tanks etc? And how's the temperature indoors in one of these things? Or would I be better off looking at condos?
