Archie and Ben are two great friends who get together every weekend to work on project cars. Currently we are restoring a 1986 Defender 90.
We hope our content inspires you to work on your own cars! We both have zero mechanical experience and jointly own about 3 working tools ;) .
Were here for a good time & never take things too seriously so enjoy!!

The Easiest Defender 90 upgrade?
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
Hello everyone, we really enjoyed installing our wheel arches from ddsmetal.co.uk We highly recommend checking them out if you need any bits for you defender!
WE WAITED 163 DAYS FOR THIS MOMENT
มุมมอง 2.2Kปีที่แล้ว
The Defender 90 is finally back home. In todays video we take the car out for a quick spin and identify some alarming issues that still need to be resolved. The defender now has an MOT after spending 5 months at the garage trying desperately to get through the emissions test... We didn't have the money to get the garage to dedicate a lot of time to the car hence the long wait but we couldn't be...
WE TRANSFORMED OUR DEFENDER 90
มุมมอง 3Kปีที่แล้ว

WE REPLACED OUR CHEAP DEFENDER 90 DOORS
มุมมอง 2.5Kปีที่แล้ว
Hello everyone, In todays video we finally put the doors on the car! These are brand new doors and the top sections can be removed so that you can also roll around with only the bottom section. They were relatively easy to bolt on but we needed to push the windscreen back so that there were no panel gaps. This wasn’t immediately obvious to us so once again the Defender forums came to the rescue...
INSTALLING A NEW DEFENDER 90 WINDSCREEN!
มุมมอง 6Kปีที่แล้ว
Hello everyone, In today’s video we put the windscreen back on the Defender. We knew this was going to be a fiddly job and considering we’ve never done anything like it before we are very happy with the results. Using a thin rope is definitely the way to go, but we were perhaps a bit premature in pulling the rope before we had the windscreen in the right position, which then meant using a kitch...
Defender Door Disaster!
มุมมอง 2.6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello everyone! Today was a tough day on the car. Unfortunately the cold weather wreaked havoc on our freshly painted doors, and it’s likely they will need to be re done. In hindsight we should’ve taken more care keeping them somewhere warm, and we certainly won’t be making the same mistake again. On the bright side, the door hinges are installed, the seat box is in, and the windscreen surround...
Best Upgrade So Far?! Land Rover Defender 90 Restoration
มุมมอง 4.5K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hello everyone, It’s great to be back uploading videos! Today we were finally able to unbox and install our new seat belt bar / cage. The kit looks great and was relatively easy to install (if we can do it you definitely can). We also started protecting the underside of the car which is a job we have been meaning to do for a while. Thank you all for your patience with the project and continued ...
Land Rover Defender Heritage Grill Install!
มุมมอง 4.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Wow this heritage grill for our defender 90 has really transformed the car! This kit cost less than £200 and in our opinion had had the biggest impact on the Land Rover defender. Stay tuned for more progress on the car! Spraying Our SOFT TOP Land Rover Defender 90
มุมมอง 2.8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
The Land Rover Defender 90 project is coming along well! In this video we made some great progress on the 90. Let us know what you think of the paint job in the comments below! Whilst we had the roof off, we thought it would be a perfect opportunity to convert to a soft top in time for summer so will will soon be installing a seatbelt/roll bar. We do apologise about the delay in uploads. The co...
Removing The Defender 90 Seatbox! Episode 8
มุมมอง 4.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Looking to remove your defender 90 Seatbox? if so this video is for you! Todays video is more of a tutorial compared to usual as Archie wasn't here this week however, I hope it can help anyone who needs a little guidance on the topic. After removing the Defender Seatbox it provides a great opportunity to do some work on the rust on the chassis and sills while its exposed. Also please do this on...
Scratching Our Brand New Paint!
มุมมอง 2.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Continuing on with our Defender 90 rebuild we fitted the wheel arches and wings back to the defender! The respray has been going well and the wings came out really well we think. Only being able to see each other on Saturdays makes us probably too eager to make progress and therefore as you can see mistakes have been made. The paint scratch is gutting when we think about how long it took to pai...
Restoring An Old Defender 90! Episode 6
มุมมอง 2.8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi everyone, In todays video we sprayed the defender 90s bonnet! It’s turned out so much better than the doors and that’s down to you lot sharing your knowledge with us so thank you! We also took off the wings so they are ready for paint. It took us so long to get them off, it seems like every bolt on that car has a vendetta. Thanks for watching! Painting Our Defender 90 at Home!
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Hi everyone, In todays video we set up the compressor, applied some body filler and began painting the doors. This is a first for us, but overall we are very happy with how it went. We need to sand the doors with a high grit sandpaper (800-1200 grit) and then reapply the clear coat to make the doors a little more glossy. But all things considered, we are pretty happy. Once we’ve got the doors f...
Fuel Prices are INSANE
มุมมอง 3.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
In today’s video, we head to a petrol station, to assess the state of the fuel crisis and start pointing fingers. We also begin sanding the Defender. The Respray project is an ambitious one, and perhaps one we are not fully prepared for. If you’ve ever painted a car before, please do leave some tips in the comments! Thanks for watching! Is this the end of your videos lads?
We’re not sure! Currently out of cars and money!
Hi guys - fell over your channel, now binge-ing. Totally enjoyable watching two young men having fun and learning along the way - brilliant! Keep safe.
Great video! Any tips on sourcing replacement headlights for my XJ?
Rolling the sides up on a new canvas will all the material to shrink and your hood will never fit properly. On a new hood, it is always best to keep all the sides tensioned for a few wet/cycles
Loved these videos! Do you have any plans to continue with posting videos on this channel?
Great video from a fellow 90 owner. Hiring a compressor would have been more cost effective. Great job though
Great video. What shade of blue did you use, guys?
Hi Dave, sorry about the delay in getting back to you! It’s Caledonian Blue
@@archieandbensadventures Thanks man!
Wait, it doesn't have to be cut off?! 😱🤯
Nope!
Damn! Now I want a Defender even more! 😭 Although, my purchase options have increased! 😁 They start at around 20k€ (up to 50) over here. 😭
Cheers Archie and Ben, great video.
What color blue is this?
Washing up liquid and a bit of water not WD40 boys. I did my screen in 20 minutes on my own - A national windscreen company changed it recently and it took them 4 separate visits and two screens! In the end I got a OEM screen - Pilkington plus OEM LR screen rubber and the regional manager to fit it. Apparently the fitters are so unused to screen rubber installs none of them know what they are doing. Heated and tinted BTW - result but took over two weeks to have fitted.
Well done it's been great following your journey 👍
Personally I think it's money well spent. Looks stunning. Granted you probably could have bought one slightly cheaper but then you wouldn't have had the fun of doing it up. Look forward to seeing what's next.
Thank you, we hope you are well!
@@archieandbensadventuresYeah getting there. Just catching up on my TH-cam watch list.
Tarted it up, but next to no mechanical work? My 6k military turned 20k when finished, converted to tdi, complete mechanical overhaul, new galvanised bulkhead, resprayed in. 2k Naro green, and five brand new Michelins. Now brilliant, but I could have bought a better one for less, and saved a lot of money.
Yes, to be honest we are terrible mechanics.
Gonna do t also very soon , thanks 🙏🏽 for the video very usefull
Not such an issue on Aluminium (due to corrosion), but you should prime the metal prior to filling. Glossyness, even with 2-pack paint, comes down to temperature and humidity. You applied the clear at dusk, when the temperature would be dropping rapidly during the cure time and humidity would be increasing in proportion. High gloss clearcoat needs warm and dry conditions (ideally 20-25 degrees). If you want to base coat and clear coat in one day, you should start early(ish - base needs some temperature to flash off nicely) on a nice day and get the clear down mid afternoon at the latest. Or base one day, and clear the next.
Thank you! Yes we made that mistake and thereafter we only clear-coated in the day time!
Best upgrade in my ninety is the 200tdi conversion. Car is from 1986 but i drive it every day 😊
Since I’m in the US, I’ll have to settle for an old wrangler or suzuki samurai
Get a jeep Cherokee XJ!!
@@archieandbensadventures If only those had a cool windshield 😭
Awesome build. I stumbled across your channel and you encouraged me to dive in and get a defender. I am in the US, so finding a starter was a bit difficult. Great work on yours and thanks for all of the ideas as I continue my build.
Thats fantastic to hear, do you have an instagram? we would love to follow your progress!
Awesome vid boys, come to Shedfest this year if you wanna see my defender with 5.9 cummins and full air ride! I won't be telling you how much that cost though :')
Thank you! Yes I can imagine that cost a hell of a lot more than our rust bucket lol
Haha no matter the land rover its got rust! it was more work than money, managed to get a few things for a good deal. if your'e ever up in yorkshire give me a shout and we'll get some off roading sorted. would love to see how mine compares to a true defender because everyone i spoke to said that it would be worse than a "real" defender @@archieandbensadventures
Amazing what your Instagram I’ll give you a follow! Getting up to Yorkshire would be half the battle!
Are you selling it?
Hell no, time to enjoy this puppy!
Brilliant breakdown lads. Can point me in the right direction for spray guns etc...Please?
Of course - do you have Instagram?
@@archieandbensadventures sorry, no I don't.
No Problem - what's your email and ill send all the details over to you?
Great job 👍 Hope to put the websites to order the parts that used in that defender
Thank you - shoot us a message on Instagram!
10k well spent boys 😊
love it guys!! Can't wait to see whats next!
Thank you!
Well done. The hard work paid off. Looks like you are ready for the adventure! 🏜️
Thank you
Thanks for sharing ❤ Greats from Libya 🇱🇾
Did you guys flatten and polish it after? Any orange peel ? Cheers
We didn't have polishing pads so we haven't polished i yet! it does have some organge peel but we are happy with how it came out!
Great job
Great to see you both back. Great content!
Which website do you prefer to order some items and perts for Def90 ? + If you have a video how to take off the roof because I’m having a trouble with it
We have a video on our channel called taking the roof off!
Car looks absolutely awesome!! Are you planning on doing anything to the lighting? Or onto the next project?
Thank you! Now time for lots of road trips!
nice work!
Thanks!
I’ve put half doors on my 90 and yes you’ve missed the door cappings off
Yes were on a very tight budget lol
😂
Hey guys, what is the verdict on the half doors? Are you happy with them, easy to take on and off? I had a restored D90 (soft top) but am considering switching to this style, I don't use my windows most of the year. Where did you buy them?
Hey, it’s our absolute favourite feature about the car! It makes it so much more fun in the sun! We got them off eBay!
Being anal here. But this is not a defender, it’s a 90
Which year is this car? 1987?
1986
@@archieandbensadventures I'm planning to buy a similar year car. considering it's a petrol 2.5 engine, how is the performance and top speed?
@ExplorewithAdeelKhan it’s incredibly unreliable and tops out at 55mph lol
@@archieandbensadventures in that case, do you prefer a 110 with TD5? Is there an Instagram account where I can be in touch with you guys?
Love that car
Thank you
Well done.
Great to see and well done chaps!
Much appreciated!
What a brilliant video...
Thank you mate!
great video guys!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good to see the videos coming back!! Loved it.
More to come!
Chuck a can of BG244 through the fuel tank once it’s patched up. Probably the only fuel additive that you can actually see/feel the benefits from 👍 Might help with the emissions.
Thanks a lot, we will definitely be buying one!
LOVE TO SEE IT - Loved your journey
Nice to see some clips from Guildford, lookin lovely
Thank you Jim!
If I know anything about Land Rovers (and Jeeps) if it’s not leaking fluid it’s because it’s all leaked out 🤣 good to see you lads back
🤣🤣 Thanks Rob
Nice to see you have the car back and running. Looks very nice, especially with the canvas. Like any Land Rover there will always be something it needs. Out of interest how bad were your emissions? I'm having the same issue with mine just now. Look forward to seeing what you have planned for the 90.
Thank you! To be honest the car was very smokey and the garage told us they took it to a “sympathetic” MOT specialist for land rovers that managed to get it pass!
@@archieandbensadventures Something I've been told recently is to not use E10 fuel. Use E5 as a minimum, or something like VPower/Tesco Momentum. Turns out old engines don't like the E10. I'm hoping my mot place will go easy tomorrow so I can finally get my car back.
How old is your landy? Let us know how you get on at your MOT! And thanks for the info we will try find some E5 near us!
@@archieandbensadventures Mine is a 25 year old Freelander (not quite as old as yours). I now have a full MOT on it as it passed this morning. I was very happy when the garage called and said it had passed.
Congrats you must be chuffed!
So glad to see it up and running… FINALLY!!!!
