Elli hikes
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 23 พ.ค. 2015
Hi, I’m Elli and I love (long-distance)hiking, backpacking and exploring nature.
Thru-hiking the South West Coast Path in England changed so much for me and made me realize that there was something missing in my life: Freedom. I didn’t want to wait for „later“ or continue to tell myself that I would follow my dreams „some day“. All we have is now and life’s too short to do stuff that we’re not happy with.
Which is why I started to follow my real passion: being outside and being creative. A bit scary but something that just feels right.
You’re welcome to join me on my journey to a simpler, more meaningful life and to come along as I explore the world with my rescue dog Otto (my ride or die and absolute best adventure buddy).
Maybe we’ll see you outside :)
Happy Hiking,
Elli and Otto

Another Great video Elli, the scenery is amazing and stunning and the skies so so blue, it’s so serene, thanks for sharing.
I've just watched 'Lauren Roawick' a Canadian backpacker who completed the Hexatrek in France in 2023, she too has just run a long event for the first time. Getting to Malham in those conditions, I was impressed. You took some excellent photos.
Tolles Video - eine super schöne Tour in wunderschöner Landschaft. Süß, wie sich dein Hundi nicht die Füße nass machen möchte 😅 Danke & liebe Grüße aus Schottland 🌞😊
@ 4.15 the Butcher shop behind you sells the best Haggis I've ever tasted. The Bothy Braemar cafe uses it in their full Scottish Breakfasts. My experience of Braemar was very positive. All the staff in the shops and cafes and at the Highland Games arena were SO kind and friendly. There is (obviously) money in the area, but the locals treat everyone like they were Royalty.
Can you please explain a little how you added the straps onto the bottom of the pack?
There are 4 little loops on each corner on the bottom of the pack and just put some shock cord with a tensioner through them so that I can slide my foam pad under the straps :)
@@ellihikes Nice, thanks. I am looking for a new pack and this is one I am considering. I could see the loops on the outside in product photos but not on the waist strap side.
Thanks! I really enjoy your films. I’m planning an England coast to coast backpacking trip this summer. Wish me luck.
Hi Eli, thanks for sharing your gear, and experiencies. I'm thinking of switching from an Osprey to a Kakwa 55, how big is your torso and what size did you choose? I have some doubts about measurements, so I'd appreciate any advice or reference on this. Thanks in advance.
How do you maintain Otto’s paw for such long hikes? Anything particular things you use or do to prevent injuries to his paw?
Hi Elli, I’ve watched your videos from the beginning and I watched your dot over the weekend. Terrific determination. Whatever inevitable disappointment you feel there’s also a growth in assurance in the time I’ve been watching. Good luck for whatever you choose next.
What a beautiful walk, I've followed it the whole way, and I loved it. Well done to you and Otto. 🙂
Beautiful lady inside and out|
Hi Eli, came across your channel as I am looking to make the Coast to Coast this summer., I like your decision making with short days to manage the weather. I have a Bergan that is 30 years old, good for most things still, however I liked your Bergan for the side pockets (water) and shoulder pockets. Could you tell me what make your Bergan is please.
Great effort.Hope you are recovered
Well Done Elli. A long night with your loyal companion ...
Athletics includes many different events which involve a variety of disciplines. Individuals specialise in one or two events whether track (sprinting or running varying distances), or field (jumping or throwing). Walking is the same. You have your own specialist type of walking event, Elli, in which you have achieved great things, most notably, I think, your JOGLE walk (along with Otto, of course!), something which most people (and dogs) could not do. As in athletics it can be difficult to change from one walking discipline to another. When you have recovered from what winter on the Pennine Way has thrown at you, you will no doubt go again. I look forward to hearing about your next venture in due course.
You're an inspiration Elli and Otto deserves you. Look forward to all your videos in the future. Not sure if you mentioned the Southern Upland Way (SUW)?
Love your videos, thank you for all your hard work, love to Otto too 🐺💕
Just a quick little UPDATE: I had to retire from the race yesterday in Malham. The conditions were very hard throughout with snow sometimes knee-deep. I was a lot slower than expected and it was hard mentally. In the end it didn't feel sensible to carry on because I was incredibly tired after only 50mins of a nap in almost 40hours. My body couldn't handle it anymore. I started to fell asleep while walking and decided not to head up into the more difficult terrain after Malham feeling like that. I'm very sad and disappointed but I know how much I fought to make it and that I listened to my body in the end. THANK YOU for following my progress and leaving these beautiful messages. That means the world 🥰🤗
You should be proud of how far you got in extremely challenging conditions. I know how hard it was up here in the North of England over the weekend to just walk 10 miles. never mind the distance you covered. Well done 🙂
Tremendous achievement in extremely difficult conditions! While you will understandably be disappointed at the moment, I think you will look back later at a unique experience that you have tackled admirably. I haven't counted, but it almost seems like the number of runners who have had to retire may be bigger than the once who made it to the finish. So, Well done Elli! 👏👏👏
Even though you retired its still a fine achievement. Walking 77 miles in those conditions is seriously tough.
You are a tough cookie! I see that way more than half the participants retired. On Saturday I decided to go out on a trail run in the very snowy Pentland Hills in the spirit of 'Ellie is doing the Spine Race'. I managed 5k in an hour and it was ankle-deep rather than knee deep. I was thinking, there is absolutely no way I could do this for another 170 km. - Yes, you didn't finish. You tried, you 'failed', you learnt and you definitely took the right decision!
That's right - you need your body for the rest of 2025 - so many new trails to hike! Glad you are good. Much respect. M and L.
Well done Elli. Hope you are OK, there will be a lot of us checking your channel for an update. Sorry you had to retire but that's still a huge achievement. After all, 76 miles is three consecutive marathons, just one would be beyond most of us!
Those conditions were really brutal, so huge well done for firstly attempting this race and then for getting so far in that weather. Hope you are ok. John
Well done Ellie!👍
Elli, you did so well. Such tough conditions! You should be very proud!
