I also have the same design of tent pegs as you, and they can be hard on the hands, so I bought a simple white plastic 'T' piece that plumbers use to join pipes together. The tent peg slides into the T piece, and the top of the 'T' fits into the flat of my hand. I then push the tent peg into the ground, comfortable, painless, and I no longer have to use the sole of my boot for extra push.
Thank you for your gear list, I’m getting together my own backpacking stuff now as I plan to do the Coast to Coast next year. My ultimate aim is LeJOG. Your series has massively inspired me. I have done the WHW and the Cumbria way many years ago and my biggest mistake was carrying way too much weight. Can’t wait to see your Coast to Coast vlogs 😊 Also I’d love a breakdown of your food and drink as I’m also vegan which can be challenging depending what’s available!
Thank you so much for the feedback and for following along! So happy that you found the video helpful :) The coast to coast is a stunning hike and imo a great preparation for LEJoG. As for the vegan food: noted, will go a bit more into detail in another video :)
I walked from Geneva Airport to Lyon Airport two weeks ago in the Via Lugdunum route, via the Jura mountains, and added two new items to my gear. I didn't take deodorant this time, I use a few drops of the alcohol gel that we all used in the Covid period, it is very effective and great for underarms, for the back of my neck (it was extremely hot for a week) and for refreshing my feet when I stop for a rest.
Good luck Elli with both hikes. I did the C2C last year and it was incredible. I’m also off to do the Cumbria Way this Thursday. I’m new to your channel and loved watching the TGO - I’m now considering it for next year. Thank you.
Thank you so much! I really hope you had a great time on the CW too :) Thank you so much for following along, I'm really happy that I could inspire you a bit when it comes to the TGOC, it really is a very interesting event and challenge :)
Just found your channel. ❤ . I am so pleased you found the Lake District. Otto is a great companion, and I’m pleased he recovered from his stomach issues early in the trek. I did the coast to coast with my dog in 1986: it was a fabulous hike. Enjoy😍
Aww, thank you so much! Happy that you found your way to the channel :) I actually walked Coast to Coast in August too, vlogs will be uploaded soon. I loved it, one of my favorite hikes ever 😍 Thank you for following along :)
Can't wait to see how you got on... It looked very wild on the clip 🥶... I know it can be very wet and windy in the Lakes 🌧️🌬️.. Hope you and Otto weathered the storms 🙏🐾💖
Thank you so much for following along and the kind words :) Hahaha, yes - we had some very very wet days in the Lake District :) But it really was beautiful!
I can recommend the Hydrapak Rover dog bowl. I think it's quite new but it rolls up and yet is quite stable on the ground. We love it and I keep it the pocket on my rucksack strap.
Lovely Elli. Thanks for showing us what you carry although I’m glad I’m not a you tuber who has to carry lots of camera stuff. It was interesting to see the stuff you carry for Otto and the effort you make to ensure his comfort. Look forward to your Lake District hike videos and wishing you good luck and fine weather!
You will love the Lakes, it's like the Scottish Highlands in miniature but with better paths! Just don't go in July or August(oh no, you did!!) when it gets packed with tourists. I usually visit between October and March. The C2C is on my to-do list.
It really is a stunning area - but yes, you're right: it was quite busy and obviously didn't feel that remote compared to my Scottish adventures with quite a lot of people around. The original plan was to go End of May/June right after the TGOC, but life got a bit in the way and "forced" me to return to Germany for a bit. But I really wanted to see it and it was worth it even in August. But I totally see what you mean and my next visit will definitely be outside peak season :) Thank you for following along, always delighted to read your comments!
Excellent pack breakdown Elli. I always find these fascinating, along with useful tips. If you do a Q&A in the future, I’d be interested in what you read (when you have time) & type of music you listen to or do you hike in silence? 😊 Take care and safe hiking 👍🏻
Thank you so much for following our adventures for so long already. That really means the world! Will definitely talk about that in my next Q&A video :)
Respect Elli, Otto well looked after with the gear and food you take. I bet it took a few years to get your gear list that you made for yourself wise. I lucky got mine now . Great video again very useful indeed and always nice seeing what others take for ideas thanks for sharing 🌷
Hallo Ellie Super zu sehen das Du in das wunderschoenen Lake District faehrst. It's my favourite part of the world... well, OK Switzerland is pretty special too!! I heard you mention that you are planning to wak the Cumbrian Way. Great but may I also highly recommend the Lakeland Round? There are quite a few versions, but Cicerone have an excellent guidebook that includes low and high route versions for many of the stages. Oh, und vergiss nicht ein stuck Gingerbread in Grasmere zu kaufen!! Really looking forward to the videos. Viel spass und vorallem, stay safe. Best wishes
Thank you so much for following along, I really appreciate the kind words! Never heard of the Lakeland Round, but will definitely look into that and add it to my list for my next visit :)
We have a good spell of weather forecast, starting on Thursday, until early next week..... :-) I'm off with my tent to Morayshire near Inverness) for that time. Just to advise you.... the regulations regarding wild camping are more restrictive in England than they are in Scotland. Have a great walk! I'll look forward to watching your video.
Hope you have a great hike too :) Thank you so much for sharing and for following along! Yes, I'm familiar with the regulations as I've done quite a few long hikes in England already too. Wish it was as easy and straightforward as it is in Scotland though!
my husband, after seeing Otto's gear: I want to be taken care of the same way on hikes me: ...I bet Otto doesn't throw a tantrum that he doesn't need a sleeping sweater or that his socks are wrong color -_-
Hope you've packed your rain gear. If Ben from Ben's Hikes and Camps' channel's thruhike of the Coast-to-Coast is anything to go by, you'll be in for a very wet time, although nothing you can't handle judging from your Scottish hikes.
Hi Eli great video as I like to see what others take and how they pack. May I ask where did you get your zipped tent peg bag from or what brand is it? Thanks.
Thank you so much for following along. I got the tent peg pouch (and also my toiletries zip bag btw) from treadlite gear and love the products. Iirc, they are handmade in the Uk :)
Hey Elli, love your journey and all the walks your doing in the UK , especially Scotland 😋 question for you , where are you getting your Dynemma storage pouches/bags from.....struggling to find anywhere in the UK that does them ? Look forward to your future ones 💪🙌
Thank you so much for following along and your kind words, that means a lot! As for my DCF pouches, you're in luck: I actually bought almost all of them from Treadlite Gear, which I'm pretty sure is a UK brand :)
Just a heads up on the pocket knife you are packing it’s actually an illegal carry in the uk as are all locking knives over a certain blade length. I had the same knife which was confiscated when catching the Eurostar to Belgium last year. The security guy went to great lengths to tell me I could be arrested! I bought it 40 years ago so was a bit annoying😢.
@@davidhale1568 yes, I’m aware of that. If I ever get checked, I would just throw it away then. But since I never fly into the UK or take the Eurostar, I didn’t have any issues with it so far….
It's a small german brand called Outliteside, but not entirely sure if they ship outside Germany. But there are other brands that use the same polartec alpha material for hoodies too (like Senchi Designs or Omm (the 'Core" hoodie)).
Hi Elli! I love your videos so much and you’re really inspiring! 🥰 I was wondering what kind of hiking app your using and is it connected to your watch? Or are you only using traditional maps for navigation? With lots of love from your swiss fan! 🤗
Aww, thank you so much for the kind words and feedback! I really appreciate you following along. I use outdooractive where I can also see the os maps for the UK (with the pro subscription) and download the gpx track and map to my phone for offline use. The watch is connected to my phone, but I don't use it for navigation, just for recording distance etc. For navigation, I mainly use my phone, but often times I also bring a map (most of the times the waterproof Harvey Maps), just because I like using a physical map too, just being able to see the "bigger picture" :)
@@ellihikes Nepal, my favourite hiking place 😀. I’m planning to return again to make another video at those majestic mountains. I would get a portable stove in Kathmandu next time to boil waters while on the trails.
Often they DON'T ... in order to travel light, they pack few items of clothing and wear them most every day. If they have a "zero day" they may launder them, or they sometimes wash things out in a stream or a lake .... but out on the trail no one really cares about that, all "through hikers" are sweaty.
Yep, that's very true. I just wash them if I get the chance, but of course I usually wear them for several days which is fine for me. Merino shirts don't smell very quickly but can easily worn for a few days without it feeling too gross....
I can totally see why you like the area :) It really is stunning and I loved it a lot, even though we had some very very wet days 😅 Already starting to plan my next visit :)
